It's only a waring if the intent of the image was to be mature. At which point the context makes it an offense worth a warning (at least). But the image was deemed as General [not Mature] at which point it's a scolding for putting a mature tag on.

But considering that the content of many images can be subjective then shouldn't they have, I don't know, talked with you about it or read the description to see what the intent was prior to just pulling their mod pants on?

I know that may be asking a lot from people on the internet, especially on this website, but a little politeness and some reading can go a very long way.

If it was just "this is the wrong classification, it has been corrected" that would be fine. The added on; "if you intended [this] then you're receiving a warning" that sets my reaction to stun.

It would seem that marking something Mature is only safe if it's implied that the content is mature; and by mature, it would seem that they mean Adult.
I'm starting to think that I should only mark things Adult or General, as the Mature can be a slippery-slope of easily misunderstood context.

It would seem that the concern was mostly if I had intended them to be of a mature nature. If I had intended a little bit of the wink-wink,nudge-nudge,bobs-your-uncle then I would have (or already am) received a warning/banning for it.

Geeze, no wonder alot of people are making Weasyl accounts and jumping ship.

I won't blame the mods for losing their minds with some of the other things they have to put up with; as well as the note wasn't overly inconsiderate or impartial. But it does seem like many mods add the teeth bared and extra bit of authority that sometimes make the notices seem a bit more hostile than they most likely originally intended.
I've seen many mods and admins complain that users overact with journals and posts like this, but given the context (and sometimes vagueness) of some the the notices received, it's really not that unexpected.

um... i think the mods need a semonar on "what is mature and what isnt" or something... plus what's the deal if you mark it Mature cause you think it might be or could be yet mods say "nah it's cool as General"

We've had about four or five of those already and as per usual, not a single fuck was given.

A S.O.P. would be handy, especially since they have to take into consideration what is censored or banned in multiple countries.
And yes, it was mostly the second half of the notice that drew my ire. Ive had one thing pulled from my gallery before, and while it was an inane reason for the pulling, it was an honest mistake and not worth drawing attention to (on my part). The second half of the notice just seemed to be a "I'll be watching you" or "I know what you were trying to do" statement.

After the cub fiasco, I doubt they are even close to concerned about laws of multiple countries.

I've requested clarification from two people in this matter.
The last time I submitted a TT, it took them over 48 hours to respond; and this was while I was under a 72 hour deadline till banning.

In that case, I'd take it down and wait for a response from somebody else, then reupload when the issue is sorted out.

Seems to be a mark of popularity.
Once you go past a certain stage, the mods wake up and pay attention to what you're doing.

More likely "the more people watching you the more likely you have at least one who will report things."

The mods specifically keeping an eye on someone seems to be more based on them being repeat offenders or the focus of constant reports.

Honestly, I don't catch it as much as some other people.
Mostly, it all comes down to Sonic art; which seems to be the main contender for warnings and bannings on this site.
Secondly, it comes down to me not being shy about being vocal for receiving these warnings; another aspect to the Sonic artists I guess.
So, yeah, I guess it's mostly Sonic based.

That has got to be by far the most repugnant reason to be contacted by the admins I've ever been able to hear about. There has been an artist on here that had the audacity to deliberately insult people that gave good comments on her art as if she had a right and took forever to ban her sorry hide, yet they are being this much of a conformist to something as simple as a rating for an image that probably is proper to the visual content. That's not beign cautious, that's just showing sheer jovial stupidity in its purest unrefined state.

I doubt it goes to the level of most repugnant person, as the previous warning I got was a deliberate witch hunt, but that person is no longer a moderator.
I do agree that a certain more diligence could be necessary in levels of problem response could be taken into consideration. As I've heard, cyber-bulling and other forms of stalking on this site can be responded to rather slowly; and while it's very hard to prove, it does make for a higher level of problematic behavior. I won't deny that a clearly adult picture in the General category, or a clear violation of the site T.O.S. does call for a speedy response; the act of clarifying banable indications isn't really something they should be concerning themselves with now. It seems to be splitting hairs during a zombie apocalypse.

Everyone needs to grow more mature in general and stop being stupid over petty things. The true fact is that too many people act like idiot teens, on this site and in general reality.

well in that case I might as well look forward to a talking to from the moderators about my pictures… unless they force changed my ratings on them without telling me. *typically rates higher than probably should be rated just to be safe since sees it as better to over rate something than accidentally mark something lower than it should be*

*after looking at my pictures* correction they did change my ratings on my pictures because there was one that I drew of my sona in a female form without a top that I remember rating as adult that was now rated mature and the same with a few others that I remember rating adult that probably shouldn't have been adult.

if the same mod is sending you stuff that is starting to not make sense.. you may have a personal issue with a mod and it needs to be addressed.

This moderatior is fairly high up in the lines, so additional mod intervention would not go my way regardless.
As for it being a personal issue or not.... i'll leave that one up to chance.

It's more that it was an implied notice... which only went into effect if the artwork was implied to be against to the T.O.S.... which it wasn't, as it should have been General instead of Mature.... (ouch... brain.. hurt... thing...)

If I remember right, Sonic characters are considered underage by staff here, so my guess is that the thinking might be something like Sonic + mature = cub = verbotten. So even if the pic wasn't actually mature/cub, they wouldn't want the stigma of underage characters in mature-marked pics on here. It's just a guess though.

This has been one of the debates and misconceived debates for some times. About two years ago, the higher-ups conceded that Sonic characters were allowed if they were 'aged-up', but even then it took several moths before clarification was brought forth from them on what that meant; and that only came about because some artists were having Sonic work pulled or getting bans for characters that were clearly in the over 18 appearance.
Even last year, a moderator went around giving users notices that 'all Sonic characters were under 18' and gave them 72 hours to remove any offending art; which is doubly ridiculous when they have a Sonic:Adult category in the submission section. That they gave these notices to dozens of people all on the same day, generation hundreds of trouble tickets, helped lead to only further flame the drama, but also makes some of us quick to call fowl on a perceived witch hunt.
I guess one problem is the Mature section seems a bit of a iffy gray area. General and Adult both have their clear borders on what is NOT allowed in them, but some of us might feel that mild violence or mildly risque outfits to be in that middle section, and a safer choice of the three. Getting a warning for putting something in there seems a bit counterproductive to the situation.

The moderator in question changed the tag for me, and I have no issues with that whatsoever. It's just the added warning that left a bad taste in my mouth.
And while regrettably, Weasyl just hasn't seem to have the 'community' that has been forged here on FA. Even IB seems to get more traffic and comments that the big W.

All the new admins that get hired routinely do stupid shit that I always know there's been new hirees because something has been inevitably removed.

Sucks that IB gets shat on so much because the format (it actually has folders/pools and mandatory tagging and working blacklist tools! Imagine that!) is so much better than FA's.

If this is true, and the mods here finds some reason to ban you or suspend your account over something so inane and stupid... I might just be tempted to leave this site and not bother coming back. I've been noting a certain lack of... energy in the artwork I've been seeing. If the FA staff is now beginning to nitpick the few good artists left in some attempt to drive them off? Well... I'll be on my way then.

There are still some wonderful artists here, and this site gets more traffic/comments than my other sites; though that too has been in a downturn lately.
I'm hesitant to leave entirely because no other area has had the level of 'community' that this site has had at it's peak. And while comments are not a requirement to what I post, they're always a jewel that are fun to see or just a pat on the back that is sometime needed. I guess since I don't have another comfortable area, or a set group of friends to hang with, it's one of the reasons I'm not wanting to abandon the site just yet.
But it is tempting at times. u_u;

I too find this place to be... decent. Comfortable. But I used to own a really nice spa robe that was decent and comfortable too. It was warmer than some of my best jackets, soft and fluffy, and very easy to lounge in. Of course I wore it all the time, and it got stains in it from food I was eating, and got ripped here and there, snagging on stuff, and wore a little threadbare here and there...

And then one day I looked at it... really LOOKED at it... and saw it was done. t had worn out. FA is still a great place, has lots of traffic, and I don't think I would close my account or anything. But every time I come here of late, there seems to be another case of this. People being harrassed and abused and mistreated by mods or admins, and it's making coming here much like wearing that old robe. Sure it's comfortable... but it's also kinda nasty and stained, and it just kinda looks horrible.

The difference between the robe and this site is this site has in it's power the ability to restore itself. If not the people who have left, then the image it puts forth of itself, and the quality of the site. And it's not doing that, which is why I'm saying that I might just stop coming by here anymore. It's depressing, like seeing the house you grew up in all run down and abandoned, when you created so many memories there.

When he first joined the site, he got in trouble a couple of times because a few pieces HE considered G or PG rated, the mods considered Adult, so rather than play guessing games and try to read moderator's minds, he just marked everything in his gallery as Adult. It worked fine for a few years, then all of a sudden, moderators began deleting his works and/or issuing him warnings due to "mislabled content ratings." Which I think is CRAP too because I also hate trying to guess what pictures that I personally find to be general-audience appropriate and would show children if they wanted to see it will be considered "Adult" or "Mature" on this website. :/
