what's so special about dark souls? (and before you ask yeah i googled it, didnt show much xP)

The most minor point first: One thing that makes Dark Souls special is that it's a grim and dark fantasy Japanese RPG whereas most recent JRPGs are formulaic anime candy. Even "dark fantasy" JRPGs are usually still filled with anime teenagers in sexy clothes with fake-looking hair and cutscene special attacks. Dark Souls is sad, vicious, and not at all anime-styled (it's actually hard to make your character stereotypically attractive and incredibly difficult to make a bishounen), and that is special and refreshing.

The most important thing that makes it special is that Dark Souls is extremely challenging. And not just in a "nightmare difficulty setting" way where the monsters have more health and your weapons are weaker; in Dark Souls, you have to plan your battles and find a way to defeat each enemy as an individual challenge. It's not as simple as getting the best gear and hitting the same attack over and over, you actually have to think when fighting and if you're careless you can die to even a low-level enemy no matter what gear you have. The great thing is that when you beat an area in Dark Souls you feel like you actually overcame a challenge. Playing other games is fun, playing Dark Souls is emotionally rewarding.

Wow... project X Zone is really impressive.

Dark Souls 2- Can't wait for that. I hope it doesn't stray to far from the first. I also hope they don't do anything stupid like dumb down the difficulty like they've done to DMC and Ninja Gaiden games.

Project X Zone- Looks amazing can't wait to play it, I was afraid it would have a combat system like Cross Edge.

Tales of Xillia- Looks amazing aswell. I'm hoping its more mature, Tales of Graces felt so kiddy to me.
