A while back I wanted to make some kind of game with a plot that didn't require a lot of programming, and decided that an RPG would be good, except that while systems like RPG Maker XP and VX are good for that, it's difficult making something that doesn't just feel like it was made in those engines.
More recently I stumbled across a couple of decent visual novel games that were extremely simple in their setup, and so I set out to find yet another system that would let me design some kind of game. The upside is that I get to use my art skills to create the game.
After a little searching I came across two systems, one was almost entirely programming and the other seemed much more intuitive. The second system was called Novelty, and so far seems to be exactly what I had asked for. Because this is a new area for me to step into I was curious to know if anybody here had a better understanding of these engines and which ones are best/easiest.
This is just a discussion, since the last time I made any attempt at something as grand as a game I gave up within a week straight of watching tutorials and then finally getting into the process of making one.

Cheap? No. I'd even say it's way overpriced, but it looks extremely versatile and easy to use. Plus it's on Steam! If you can work RPG maker, Articy Draft will probably be a breeze. My knowledge of the software is admittedly limited, though. If you intend to get it I definitely recommend doing some of your own research first.
