Gumroad is a little bit grey in what its policy is on adult work. It says you can't post anything 'defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, obscene, profane, child pornographic, offensive, obscene or otherwise objectionable;'. Yes, they said obscene twice.
However, seeing as they were very specific on child pornography and NOT on adult pornography, I'm gonna give it a shot. I hope everything works well because I'm loving the concept here!

I haven't noticed a fail in sales.
every time a credit-card is used money is borrowed from the credit card company and the customer has to pay it back with interest fees.
the credit-card-company takes the risk of loosing money and makes its profits with the fees.
paypal is not a credit institution and wont lend any money to its customers, they just process the money and make their profit with fixed fees per transaction.
If a paypal transaction fails,the customer owes the seller money or the buying process is canceled.
But back to the topic : You loosing customers by only accepting credit-cards:
You will never know how many buyers you loose with a specific payment option, because you get no feedback from a not-buyer.
Problem with credit-card payment is: You need to have a credit card. Not everyone has.
Paypal (and other on-line-payment-processors) offer a variety of payment options like debit, money transfer, credit card and even country specific payment options that are not implementable for non international companies. So paypal and its competitors offer a wide range of payment options, from witch a customer may choose.
Statistics tell the following:
The more options/the more customers (thats not only valid for products but also payment options)
In the USA nearly everybody has a credit card (around 80% of the population).
In Europe these numbers are lower, (like only 20% to 30%)(may get even lower with the climbing credit-fees and the financial crisis)
Short:
You will lose around 70% to 80% of potential European customers.
BTW, I don't have a credit card EITHER. I only have a debit, but I can use it as a Visa to purchase things on gumroad just fine.
Please don't treat me like I'm an idiot.
I just wrote down my opinion, if you feel offended, just hide my post, I like your artwork to much to start a fight with you...
And I do not want to make you use a payment system you can not trust anymore.
