never done that, but I've dealt with a lot basic time signatures, and few pieces where the composer decided switching a lot was a delightful idea. I don't really have a preference. 8+ years of playing clarinet says all I need to do is practice to play well. Not brilliantly, but quite well. It's a bit natural for people to want to clap on 1 and 3, as it's the stronger pulse of the beat when writing music. Somewhat interesting, it is. Maybe some people just feel the stronger beat on those.
Then again, it does depend on how the song's written.
