Discussion / FAQ

This is a journal for basic discussion and any questions about Koori/Koorik/Koorin/etc.
or just regular discussion about anything, really.
Anything goes! Just try to keep it civil!
(ctrl + f to find the question you are looking for)
* "Are koori, koorik and koorin the only sentient species on the planet? or do they coexist with other species?"
* "Are the infected Jungle Koori still alive or are they animated corpses?"
* "What is their tech level? as compared to human eras?"
* "Why do koori/koorik/koorin have shoulder blades if they have no arms there?"
* "Do they have different sexual orientations, or is it all one orientation?"
* "What are the distinctions between Koori, Koorik & koorin?"
* "Are there scientific names for koori/koorik/koorin? If so, what are they?"
* "...How do they not break their necks and die."

Koori, Koorik, and Koorin.
But yes, those are the only ones!
But with some differences.
They don't have TVs, radios, or anything similar/as advanced. Everything is through mail and word of mouth.
They DO have very basic "automobiles" (literally just open wooden carts with a steam engine that moves the wheels) and boats with simple propulsion, but they are for the more wealthy and not seen too often.
Waterwheels and other such things exist, so they have minimal electricity for things like freezers and SOME lighting (though those are another thing for at least upper middle class wealth. Not everyone has it.)
As far as weaponry goes, it's mostly blades, piercing weapons, etc. But they do also have some primitive electric and pneumatic "guns" and crossbow-like weapons.
Their medical science is a little more advanced and they don't die from diseases often. They've got a pretty good grasp on medicine.
Does that help..?
Q: "Why do koori/koorik/koorin have shoulder blades if they have no arms there?"
A: Giant arms on your head tends to put a lot of weight up there. You need a pretty strong neck and some good upper torso support to handle it all.
So they are more like "pseudo shoulder blades" that are there to support the neck/head rather than the shoulders/arms.
Also, their planet's gravity is 8.69 m/s² (about 89% of Earth's gravity) so that helps with the heavy arms issue as well!
However, because all koori, koorik and koorin are tool using, sentient species, they require a certain.. ~finesse~
So it is evolutionarily beneficial to them to still possess some kind of "neck" allowing for a wider range of motion in both their head and manipulators.
Thank you for your time :3
(I will PM as well)
It's just a group project with prizes and no deadline in the interest of creative worldbuilding and having fun!
I also wanted to involve the community in the creation of an open species and their world, customs, etc.
I thought it'd be nice to let everyone add their own input and creations into it. ;w;
That's pretty much all there is to it! Just a fun, group creativity exersize with prizes. <3

There aren't as many homosexuals or bisexuals as there are in human society (because there isn't as much of a population...not even close) but they definitely are around. c:
Also some more info:
Transgender is much MUCH more rare (almost never ever happens) because koori and koorik aren't as big on gender roles and the social stigma isn't really there like it is here.
In other words, a female can be "masculine" and nobody would think of her as "acting like a man" because for them... there's not really any such thing? If that makes sense.
Also, koori, koorik and koorin have pretty much figured out that homosexuality is a natural evolution thing and since there's no kind of equivalent to religions or anything in their world, being a homosexual isn't a big deal.
If anything, telling someone you're a homosexual would get a surprised and curious reaction because it's somewhat of a rarity. But definitely no hostility or anything.
I hope that helps!

Q:"Are there scientific names for koori/koorik/koorin? If so, what are they?"
A:
The scientific names are as follows:
Macromanus brevis (Koori)
- Macromanus brevis brevis (Common Koori)
- Macromanus brevis lineatus (Jungle Koori)
Macromanus platycaudus (Koorik)
- Macromanus platycaudus platycaudus (Common Koorik)
- Macromanus platycaudus magnus (Tundra Koorik)
Macromanus insularis (Koorin)
Q:"...How do they not break their necks and die."
A:
There are a multitude of reasons why this doesn't occur.
* Their arms possess no bones whatsoever except for in their hands. The rest is various ligaments, air pockets and muscle/fat tissue, resulting in a lighter limb.
* Gravity on their world is only 8.69 m/s², or 89% of Earth's. Not only does this allow creatures to exist with smaller wingspans, greater jumping abilities and taller structures, but it also allows the koori, koorik and koorin to support more mass without the added weight.
* Koori, koorik and koorin have specially shaped vertebrae in their necks allowing 270° rotation and puts a lot less strain on their vertebral arteries. So they have a much higher range of movement without having to worry about snapping their neck or cutting off blood circulation.
* Even with all of this, their neck can get awfully sore. Think of a human female with large breasts. Sure, she can live fine without a bra, but it can get awfully uncomfortable for her. Koori and Koorik have a similar problem with a similar solution. Koori tend to wear cloth "neck braces" which act as comfort support for their head and neck. Koorik however, have a cultural habit of growing their fur extra long around their necks and using special oils to mat it. Sort of like a giant, downy, dreadlock collar around their necks. Koorin simply have shorter, stockier necks.
but of course, there's always species that are the "exception to the rule". no legs, multilegs, tentacles, those fish with the weird feet..........
It just depends on what you want to do. UvU
