Questions for past commissioners of mine-
12 years ago
What is it that made you buy from me originally?
What do you like about commissioning me?
What do you think about the way I work?
Do you like more options, or prefer me to keep it simple with just a few?
I'm just curious is all.
Thanks for reading!

2. You kept me informed throughout the process, even if the update was "sorry Im busy and can't work on it atm" being informed is pleasant.
3. you let the commissioner be a part of it, sharing step by step as you go, thats a nice thing that really helps both parties get what they want.
4. I always like having options, personally the artists choice/experimental is my favourite.
Ah!!! I'm glad the experimental option is loved! I'll keep doing more in the future methinks!
and thanks, hehe, poor Flare having to work xD
hehe after I move and get set financially I'll be throwing money at you for lots of experimental pics when you do
I wish you crazy awesome luck during your move! And after, too! xD
2. kept me well informed. =D
3. Loved how quickly you made the picture.
4. I like options personally allows for more complex pictures or just more idea's to come forth.
It seems that speed and being informative is loved so far!
Your art style is very cute and different from other artists i've commissioned before. You had very reasonable pricing on two things i got from ya. It's also always nice to help give business to a good friend when possible :3
What do you like about commissioning me?
It's always great quality and timely.
What do you think about the way I work?
You finished that ref sheet surprisingly fast o3o
Do you like more options, or prefer me to keep it simple with just a few?
More options are always great, since you can always use less than how many you're offered if you want.
2. Keeping your commissioners up to date on the work in progress and through journals if something came up.
3. You an expert with female and children/chibi art. I'm still not currently sure on males yet.
4. Me personally, I'd prefer the few options you had when I first commissioned you, but if your continuing in some form of art career, learning many styles is best.
I've always been better at drawing females, but I've been getting better at drawing males recently.
Thanks for answering!
2. Good quality and good prices.
3. For me is perfect!
4. YES! More options are always welcome! XD
Thank you~
That you are quite quick with it. Perhaps I was lucky and caught you on a good week but still, you're quick!
Your work is really interesting; you have many different types of art and all of them are fun!
The more options, the better!
It seems folks want the option for many other choices- I will keep his in mind!
I will probably make a nifty price guide with lots of choices after I do an iron artist! o3o
I figured it would be a good idea to do that because I intend to buy a new bed soon, and don't want to dig into my AC fund for it. xD
But really, I wish you the best of luck on that goal! Woot!
We plan on getting it after we move- and throwing away our current bed-
Right now we sleep on an old twin bed, and the frame is broken to hell.
We plan to get something a little bigger, and a decent frame to go with it. xD
2) Very professional. I'd rate you in the top 10% for communication among the hundreds of artists I've commissioned over the last decade.
3) Your sketch was reasonably clean and you're among the few people to show me the inks before coloring. No complaints. I got my commission with cel shading, and I like the different tonal variations in the shadows as it doesn't go overboard and fits the character design and her attitude well.
4) This is a big question among sales and marketing analysts. Generally speaking, it's not a bad thing to give people a lot of categories from which to choose, but usually you should limit lists to 3 or 4 choices per category. When people have more than 3 things to think about, they tend to think too much. Of course, I'm a geek, so if I have a hundred choices I'm happy, and having too few choices drives me nuts. The average person tends to be the opposite, though, so it may depend on what kind of a customer you want, or at least what the theme of the commission you're selling (YCH auctions are only popular with certain types of people, for example).
Top ten percent? Holy cow! Well at least I know to keep doing things how I usually do them!
And I see what you mean about too many options can confuse people. Hmm. I have plenty to think about for that. I like giving people the ability to choose, but I also don't want to overwhelm anyone. I need some fair middle ground to figure out- but it seems most folks want more options(from this journal rather) but I need to figure out how many options I can add before it becomes too many.
Thanks muchly for answering!~<3
And, yes, I literally do mean the top 10%. Overall, I'm pretty surprised how well people handle commission work given that this isn't a professional market, and while I've had to wait a while for most work, it's seldom that I get ripped off. However, many people are still surprisingly bad at communication, especially when it comes to biographical info, understanding the personality of a character, and verifying specific trademark features of a design. People tend to be very sparse with their replies. I'm really happy with how you handled my commission, and I'll be happy to give you an endorsement.
Oh, and 3 years isn't a long time. Just sayin'. Of course, that's because I'm now in my mid 30's. ;)
Oh my gosh personality is so important. SO important to know. I always feel like I'm drawing blind if I don't know the personality of the character I'm drawing- And thank you! I'm glad I could make you happy with it! <3
Woah. Only 3 years ago? Goodness it feels like 6 or so. A lot happened on the in between so I can see why it feels that way. Lots of learning and moving around. xD I can only imagine what I'll be like by the time I'm 30- 6 years to go!
and after that buy, I can't be any more happier! c:
It makes me happy too!~<3
and that she just loves it XD
2) Great pricing, great attitude (despite the hassle) and your commitment to get the job done, even when a commissioner is an absolute douche-canoe.
3) Very committed as I've said. You keep your clients updated, you give them halfway sketches and the rest...when most aren't that nice.
4) It's dependent upon what you're trying to get drawn, or who you're drawing for I suppose. With things like chibis and quick sketches, I'd leave it more simple, while things like character bios require more detail...But I think that detail is largely thought out beforehand by the commissioner, maybes. if they know what they want, things wont be a huge hassle, and you wont have to answer a bazillion questions I don't think. -Shrug-
I will try and keep up the positive. ^^
And welcome back Cal! xD
