From what i understand, this is suppose to essentially be side stories that take place during Phase 1 of the Avengers initiative,leading up to the events of the Avengers. Though most likely...it's just an excuse to have Phil back as he became such a fan favorite

Part of me says that this is just pandering to the fans with the popularity of the character, and doesn't speak very well of the lack personality of the faceless background characters who lack the Buffy/Firefly charm and seem sub par even to Torchwood.

I doubt they'll go that route until just before or after the upcoming Ant-Man movie.
I guess one question is how integrated this will be in the Marvel Universe. Will it deal with mutants and other hallmarks of Marvel comics, or will it mostly be a Joss Whedon project unto itself? Guess we'll just have to wait and see. ^_^

FOX owns the movie rights to X-Men and everything involving 'mutants', so I doubt they'll actually USE the word 'mutant'. Then again, since this is a TV series, it might fall under a different jurisdiction...

Well it's been said that the show takes place after The Avengers.

As to how Coulson survived, they aren't saying yet, but just remember, he was pronounced dead off screen and Fury used his "death" to motivate the team, not the first time Fury lied to get what he wanted.

And besides, if you're gonna do a show about S.H.I.E.L.D set in the same universe as the movies, you'll need a familiar face to headline the show and Coulson seems the perfect choice, he is a fan favourite and Clark Gregg loves to play the character.

True, it seems a bit weak to bring Coulson back from the "dead" (and that's even if he did die) but lets not forget that this is a comic book property and if comic books have told me one thing, it's that characters can die and then come back to life.

I was actually glad Coulson died. Not that I necessarily hated him, Clark Gregg is great, but he represented to me the hubris of S.H.I.E.L.D. and when he died, they got the kick in the ass they needed and the Avengers came together and got things accomplished. All that's undone with this. Frankly, this series would have better been a prequel at best.

As Tony Stark said, "[Fury] is the spy. Even his secrets have secrets." Due to this trailer, it can be assumed that not only did Fury lie about the cards being on Coulson's person, he could've easily lied about his death.

Still doesn't mean it's a good idea to retcon his death so soap opera-ish or invalidate the karma of his death. Even in the epic final battle, Hawkeye and Black Widow are constantly denied any direct retribution against Loki because they are S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who've got a bit of a vendetta against him while the other 4, whom he never directly attacked through most of this, get to dish out all kinds of pain on him because they have humility.

Life Model Decoys. They're as ubiquitous as body-suits when it comes to S.H.I.E.L.D.

Maybe the Agent in the Avengers Movie was a Skrull double, and Loki just saved everyone from another Secret Invasion.

At first glance since it's a tv show and not a movie I'm going to say that this takes place BEFORE the Avengers movie. Either that or they really didnt think people would notice that he was up and walking around.

Seeing as how Agent Ward says that Coulson was 'killed in action before the battle at New York' 43 seconds in, I figure they got 'sum 'splainin to doooo.
It might be a prequel/flashback show, but I guess we'll all see in a few months. ^_^

Except the Ultimate Marvel universe where characters DO stay dead such as Peter Parker and like almost all of the X-Men and Magneto. :v

Yeah, this was pretty well telegraphed. And I for one couldn't be happier. This show looks to be major fun.

Oh man, I would have been one of the people going nuts. Hell I even love Coulson in Ultimate Spiderman, just because they drew Clark Gregg and got him to voice the character.

Android duplicates that can even have limited AIs of the person they are imitating. SHIELD has been using them for decades in the comics to help keep assassinations and the shenanigans of living in the MU at bay.
So the No-Prize could be that Coulson uploaded his mind to one to enter the fray and was "killed". The backlash made him go into a small coma, Fury keeping this under wraps as it solidified the team as he was wanting it.

Well, it's the Marvel universe; there's been about 4 Jean Greys, 2 Magnetos, 5 Alternate timelines (that i can recall), 2 children existing in the main time line from 2 alternate time lines (both of them are Summers I mgiht at, Cable and...uh...a daughter whose name escapes me right now), at least 2 people spontaneously changed race and Prof. X keeps gaining the ability to walk...and has also come back from the dead at least once I believe and... OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG What if they can get Deadpool RIGHT in this?! If he shows up of course. Otherwise I'll jsut enjoying those little episode put out by those people on the internet... they're pretty darn good... so stranger things have happened. I'm not sure how he's alive, but it's kind of cool... And does anyone else feel serious Eliza Dushku vibes coming off of Chloe Bennet (the girl in the van)?
