Damn, still one of my favorite songs ever. :D

I got chills watching that.

It was his return to Earth that made the song so poignant. Hell, it has to be one of the best music videos and cover versions of "Space Oddity" that the world has ever seen!

I like the way they changed the lyrics. I like the fact that they actually got permission from Bowie to do it *and* to change the lyrics. I like that they hanged the lyrics to match the setting/situation. I *love* that it's "Space Oddity" sung from f*cking SPACE! The only way to top it would be to stuff Bowie and Tin Machine into a space shuttle, and even then I'm not sure it would match the poingance of a real astronaut, singing that chorus by a huge porthole as the Earth spins by below and there are no special effects involved!

Actually, if you factor in that he was already going to go there/be there, it was in its own way *cheap* to produce: used materials that were already there, no special effects, and I'm sure it was produced in his "down time" over the 5 months he was there.
I think the great thing about it is that nobody who sees that video will ever be able to look at that shiny point up in the sky the same way again: never again just a cold hollow place only for science. "Here am I sitting in my tin-can, a last glimpse of the world..."

That was amazing.
