Oh good more stress - computer kaput
I am on our old slow ass clunker of a 2007 computer in the back room to type this
my main computer is on the fritz
It is getting old so its issues were not worrying me TOO much... sometimes it will simply freeze/ the screen will glitch and freeze upon a first start up, turn it off via button on the tower, turn it on, click run windows as normal and it works fine the rest of the day on the second start up.
today though it did the screen glitch freeze twice and then on the third time while I was online the screen went randomly black and then I got a blue screen wall of text that closed before I could even register what the first line said but I think it said shutting down to protect the computer, which it did turn off and then the tower started beeping
NEITHER of that has ever happened to me before in my 15+ years of having a computer O________o
it would not stop beeping till I unplugged it
it is still sitting, turned off, haunting me as I realise I only got about half the memory unloaded onto my new/first ever external hard drive and some important stuff is trapped on that computer...
I also wonder just how the **** I am going to afford to get a new one if this thing just died on me.
shit... just... shit...

Next time u turn it on transfer your stuff, clean and the such.
I really suggest looking at pawn shops and stuff, they usually sell working towers for fairly cheap (although you should ask if you can test it out before you but it to make sure it works right)
Im not a computer expert (and not claiming to be) but this is how i delt with this issue when my old computer pulled this crap.
Example: http://www.amazon.com/ADS-Technolog...../dp/B000062TNZ
Its very simple, just pop it into the casing and go nuts.
What about the dog though? I'm heartened to hear you're facing further troubles but I was still worried about the first of them.
Thing is I am still pretty worn down because of yesterday and now this?! ugh
I am no expert on computers. I did try to start it up in safe mode just a bit ago and it froze-glitched while loading the files, the screen glitch looks like horizontal bars of color that flicker and jitter and the computer is unresponsive when this happens.
"That beeping could very well be a BIOS code. The codes have a pattern to the beeping to indicate where the problem lies."
"1long, 2 short Video adapter error Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly. Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly.
Repeating (endless loop) Memory error Check for improperly seated or missing memory.
1long, 3short No video card or bad video RAM Reseat or replace the video card.
High frequency beeps while running Overheated CPU Check the CPU fan for proper operation. Check the case for proper air flow.
Repeating High/Low CPU Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged. May also be due to excess heat. Check the CPU fan or BIOS settings for proper fan speed."

Something like dat. Hopefully it's one of tha' easy ones, where someone just bumped tha' tower and knocked something loose. ...and hopefully, it's a known code. At least if it's a new one, yah should be able to search it up, knowing it's likely a code! Prolly save money by replacing tha' specific piece or just pushing it back in! ~Here is hoping~
Also, if the beeping has a pattern to it, that will help diagnose. Either way, the data on the drives is still safe and can be transferred to another computer, since it doesn't sound like hard drive failure.
processor overheating would result in the computer rebooting during a CPU-demanding time (playing a video for a long time, playing a video game, etc).
Too bad ur 3000 miles away i'd back your sh1t up and reformat it with a fresh Win7 image in 30 mins & replace its HD. i have over 20 spare 500gb laptop drives that i have no use for and use them for this type of thing for friends.
I would suggest calling someone with a little knowledgeand equipment, first to make a backup of the harddrive and then check the components. Beeping upon boot certinly a hardware error, but it's most likely the motherboatd, RAM, graphics card or CPU, could also be any of the other components but that would be very rare.
Find a nearby tech-savvy friend to try and help you out. If you don't know anybody, I know quite a few people in the SF area. I think there's also a non-profit computer repair place in Concord..
