Well the reveal of the Xbox One was a very disappointing press conference for me. They barely showed anything new, I don't care about EA sport games (PES is way better then FIFA), could care less about tv integration and I don't give a fudge about COD. The only thing that piqued my interest was that they will have 15 new IP's, even then I bet most are kinect titles lulz.
A press conference by Microsoft, regardless of how flubbed it was, is not going to move all of Sony's valuation by almost 10%. Discussion of a divisional reorganization at Sony will.
Wow, And yet I am not supprised, considering what my friend told me about all the Stupid stuff MIcrosoft is doing -anyway- the ability for developers to use the Xbox next cloud, therefore basically forcing you to be always online unless the developer programs it to -not- be that way, the whole used games requiring an -extra- feet to be paid, that -same- fee to be paid if you just let a friend BORROW the game for the weekend or something, because it is from their system, not an online pass for extra content but to just -play- the game....and other stupid crap like that
actually that's entirely untrue. Microsoft already clarified that there will be no fee involved in game sharing nor using used game. how that works is still unknown at this point but they said they'll have a system in place for tracking purposes of who owns what and how it can transfer ownership in terms of used game.
Secondly, Microsoft said it requires internet (same for Ps4 and Wii U) for majority of its feature, but it will function offline and will automatically re sync when network connection is detected. Ps4 does exactly the same thing. between the two system I believe the difference is quite minimal, both are cloud-based systems with only one distinction: p
Understand this: PS4 and Xbox One is cloud-centric, of course it'll require internet! The always-on factor feature of Xbox One is the same concept used in Wii U and the current gen PS3 / Xbox 360 in which is is known as "Standby" state in which it downloads any required updates, perform install in background, and syncronize data while its asleep or not in use. However With the exception of Wii U initial set up, none of the systems require internet to be always present to function. In order to play online, of course it does require internet for the functionality!
Personally, I'd rather have a system that automatically manages updates and installs for me while I am away instead of sitting on my ass waiting for it to do it.
And Yet you then added to you that it seems you don't keep up to date, because the Wii U -added- the fact that it now manages and installs updates it detects when your away as a default function for when you choose to shut it down, with a new standby state as well.
i own a wii u. it does it automatically downloads and installs only for updates and purchased items. originally all of this was manual and must be on to function. however this said new feature disables during streaming such as nterflix or hulu.
Here I thought it was reflecting the 1% of market share that would rather get a game console that lets them watch TV than two devices that are any good at what they're designed to do.
From what I'm reading, the xbox one is seriously underwhelming. I already had my eyes set on the new PS4, im just wondering what the specs will be for both consoles as well as which one will be better to get. Then again I did miss out on one generation of gaming, in the PS3... But I was like, should i get a new xbox??? Or should i stick to my games on Steam? I mean sure its silly and all that, but i honestly think that the PS4 will win this generation along with the next nintendo product, IF nintendo does it right... Ah well... Lets wait till E3
Kinda surprising to me. I thought it was a pretty good presentation. Yes, there was a lot of focus on "not games" at the start, but it's not as if there's not going to be any games (15 first-party exclusives, for example...). The "unified" media concept was pretty cool IMO.
Oh well, I guess I'm not a fancy Wall Street type. 8)
They had actually previously said this presentation wasn't to show off games (that's for E3), but rather the hardware and the philosophy (dominate the living room.) I'm actually sort of surprised at this "Microsoft is doomed, who wants to watch TV?" reaction when, you know, this is what everyone is doing.
Sony still cannot get the entire online ecosystem to get it close to the level of xbox live integration in social features (chat, cross game feature. The PS4 is bringing the PSN to the right direction but still fall short to what Xbox Live currently offers, and that is sort of major shortcoming. However being able to join another person's game instantly anytime anywhere is the major strongpoint.
I love how people don't actually READ the article and just assume correlation = causation.
Consider the following: Global warming has been on the rise over the past century. The number of pirates (real pirates, not software thieves) has been declining. Therefore, pirates prevent global warming.
I was unimpressed by the lack of games, but the 3 OS' seamlessly popping between games, TV (which I don't watch) and internet (which I have a PC for) was kinda cool ;)
I have a 360 and a PS3 and far prefer the 360 (especially for the menu system and man-sized controller) ;) I'd have gotten rid of the PS3 by now if not for the Ratchet & Clank games and the fact I don't have a separate Blu Ray player :D
"Xbox, go home"...I was thinking the exact same thing throughout that underwhelming, awful, plus far, far too USA centric conference.
Plain & simply it failed to impress me in any way. It seems MS are making this more of an all in one box, a jack of all trades master of none type thing. Sorry but i'll be passing. For I want a games console not a set top box.
>"lack of games"
>expressly said they would be revealing the games(15 IP's including 8 new franchises) at E3, the gaming expo
>spends this time instead to reach out to sports and tv fans
>criticized for marketing, when this makes so much sense it's stupid
It is fairly massive though. I'll be waiting for a slim version. Same with the ps4. Playstation's consoles are always
gigantic at launch.
I agree on the size of the Xbox One. it looked huge. Given the nature of the internal architecture (and Ps4's) been given a much more x86 centric features more in line with a PC's own, I wouldn't be surprised if they grew in size to accomodate 8-core processor with 8 GB ram, 500 GB (Ps4 is unknown), and a bunch of WiFi features squeezed in there. plus a blu-ray drive. They have to incorporate some sort of heating-cooling system to offset that processing power. Most system did come out as large, then they shrunk down over time... I am sure it'll shrink down anyway :P
Wow... I just made a fair amount of money, I mean after that "Always on DLC" comment I figured this may happen and it did... well I will sell it if it falls... or at the End of November when just after the PS4 Drops.
I mean if this keeps steady I can pay off my car. Thanks PS4! make (You price here) over my car note and I... Will buy a better PC... not you because PC forever.
Adding to the hilarity of the presentation, apparently anyone who watched the livestream via their Xbox (that had Kinect) had a bit of trouble watching it. Especially anytime in the presentation they said "Xbox" or gave any command.
Thats amazing
Quite an entertaining breakdown of the stock price against the reveal events.

Because it has over one hundred channels to watch and no games to play.
Happens after every major product release. Kotaku is full of shitty kids that came fresh out of journalism school.

Considering Xbox One will need Kinect on constantly to run, I can see future hilarity/frustration with many things.
Yesterday was a fun day, so much ranting (me included)
