I honestly prefer Nintendo handhelds and PC gaming. It's more convenient for me since I can play games on the go. I barely use my PS2 and Nintendo Wii because I can't take them with me and I need a TV to play them on. But the Xbox One takes the cake. If your internet goes down for any reason, presumably your game will stop even if you're on single player. Anyone who actually wants one of these things is a moron XD

The only thing I don't like about the ps3 is that the ps2 games cannot be played, I guess they're remedying that with re-releases but what if they don't re-release all the ps2 games and they only choose the most popular ones???

Not in their present state anyway. Apparently Sony plans to add in Backwards Comparability later on with the use of their recently purchased Cloud technology, allowing the streaming of older games.

That's what Xbox are doing to. It's all cloud based apparently. Truthfully other than the controller all I've heard is speculation from ps4. No one even knows what it looks like yet. Yea, Sony's PS4 is not backwards compatible but any title you buy from PSN (I don't believe it's 100% online) is locked, and they're creating a cloud system to re-release most of their older PSX/PS2 stuff (dunno about PS3).

XBox however has gone off the deepend.... 100% online requirement, the second you put the disc in it installs to that profile, and charges a $5-20 fee to use that particular disc on another XBox (or even another user profile on the -same XBox One-)

If that's true there is no saving this console. Requiring a family to buy an extra copy of a game for every member of a household is unprecedented extortion.

From what I've heard, that's incorrect. Once it's installed, anyone can use it -on that machine-, regardless of whose profile is being used. The fee only applies if you want to play the game on a different piece of hardware, but does apply even if the different hardware is also yours.

The best about the "always on"-consoles is that the German Telekom has decided not to sell flatrates anymore. Instead your connection speed gets cut down to dial-up speed after 75GB of data ... or you purchase additional volume.
Tell that to the console developers. o.O Or PC game developers. Or .. I don't know.
But yes, what they are doing with the new xbox is really bad (even if I'm not console player)

The only plus is side is that now games might look a bit better now. As the graphic power of the "new gen" consoles is comparable to a lower mid-range PC now. And the new consoles are running on PC hardware so developing for different platforms is easier now.

they will most likely add a code in the NEW game you must punch in to play. After that you can use the same disc but each person must buy an additional NEW code to play.

the only reason i even got the ps3 was for assassins creed and devil may cry. I'd thought it was fully backwards compatible. noooooooope. though the ps1 games play fine, which was a plus O.o

I just really don't understand why you would want to Pisa of your fanbase intentionally like that. Trading and swapping is a huge part of the gaming industry and it seems Microsoft want to just clamp down on that but it's like their trying to control what people do with their product once it's been purchased.

Yeah, I think the only saving grace might be if the fee for getting a used copy goes down as time goes down, eventually scaling off close to 0 after a year or two.

this has been a horrible set-up by microsoft, and to be honest, when the year started and I heard the first bit of bad news about gaming, the whole events surrounding Aliens: Colonial Marines, I was worried that this year would be a bad, bad year for gaming in general. the most i've seen that i've gotten excited for is stuff i've already played, stuff i've played with better graphics, Pikmin 3, Last of Us, and a few other ones...really, this bit by microsoft has me not even happy or surprised.

Sadly, the future of consol gaming is preaty dark, the new revolution is suposed to be the cloud gaming, so all you will buy will be totaly virtual, you will not event download the game you will play it remotly, in fact your consol will only be a terminal and the real game will be played on mega computer at the nearess sony or Microsoft office.

Seriouly i was a Playstation fan for many years, but now then i got a good desktop computer, i praticly not use my PS3 anymore exept for netflix and crunchyroll for watching video, everything is better, video quality, sound, playability, seriously i realy did not know what i switched for consol in the first place:)

PS3 here too.. mainly cause playing via xbox online costed moneys, on ps it's free. Dunno if that has changed by now but it was like that back when I got mine and so far I've been happy.

I'm guessing some corporate mole from Nintendo infiltrated Microsoft and is getting it to make some extremely stupid decisions so they'll sell out to Nintendo. Next target, Sony.

I've actually heard quite a bit about this from both friends working there and mah co-workers while we're working up in the Microsoft buildings. Actually the always-on bit isn't that bad. Cloud is becoming a bigger deal in almost every media circle, including gaming, and isn't a new concept to begin with. The most popular gaming platform around, Steam, has ALWAYS been always-on. In order to even play a game with them you have to register it online.

The technology behind the new Kinect is actually really interesting- I'm told the old one never got the treatment it deserved because it was never really attached to the xbox. Now that it's fully integrated with it, they've made huge improvements on recognition and given it a LOT of neat tricks- voice commands in-game being a big one. As for having to use the new controller? With every new Nintendo system there's been a new controller- Wii-U has that bulky gimmick of an extra screen on theirs that's trying to impersonate a mini-tablet. We tried that with the dreamcast, it wasn't that great. All it does is distract from the immersiveness of the game.

Yes it sucks that it's not backwards compatible- but neither was the PS3. People raised hell about that for all of a month before buying it anyway. xD Not to mention it would dramatically up the price of their console, due to the fact that likely it would need a whole 'nother disk reader. Yes it sucks that you can't trade games but, as a PC gamer, I can safely say since I've been unable to do that since my account was created eight years ago back in Nov. of 2004... it's really not that bad. You actually end up going back and playing more games than you used to because it's there ready for you digitally, neatly listed in a nice lil library with no chance to be randomly lost/stolen/never seen again by said friend you loan it to. If you wanna play with your friends, support the people who made the game and buy a copy~ So you can play multiplayer! :3

In short it's really not as bad as people are making it out to be. First-gen PS3 was backwards compatible. And it doesn't require another disk reader. Just different programming. There's actually some software that people who were sick of not being able to use PS3 for PS2 games developed that gives comparability with most games. Just back-up your save data, just in case. 'Cuz it's a free file.

I also remember early gen PS3's breaking if you put the wrong games in them... they weren't meant to be backwards compatible. >.< It just so happened that they could be by chance. Didn't know abotu the software though, that's neat!

They were originally meant to be backwards compatible. They explicitly took out PS2 backwards compatibility first, but left PS1 BC. Then they took out PS1 BC. At some point they added an emulator for one of them instead of proper BC (which is likely the one that you're talking about that could only play some games). The current ones are in NO WAY BC. That's my understanding of it. There have been like 5 or 6 versions of the PS3 that cut out things like BC at each step to make it cheaper.

I laughed way harder at this news than I should have. Xbox might as well taken a shotgun to the head here and pulled the trigger. Way to jump the gun and make everyone hate you Microsoft.

There's a lot of bad press information that has circulated that reveal press conference. As far as I've read both the always online and the preowned fees have been debunked but reserving my judgement for e3 which is in 3 weeks. I do like the controller though. It seems a lot of people have jumped on the hate wagon with half information.

They didn't call the second Xbox, Xbox 2, because PlayStation was bringing out the PS3. Xbox thought it was bad marketing to be lower than the rival.
And now they thought they should call it "One" because it unifies a full media-center in one place. Some call it a good name, I call it a lack of creativity...

The only reason I have an Xbox at all was because it was a birthday present. I'm more of a Nintendo fan anyway.

Games and media are stored in the cloud, so you'd need to connect to access them. you have to connect at least once a day so for people like my father who have no net access whatsoever this consol will be no use to him which is a shame beause he has always been an xbox fan

I've got a 3DS in addition to my PC, but I'm only interested in getting the DLC for Fire Emblem Awakening, Luigi's Mansion 2, and Animal Crossing New Leaf. After that, it's doubtful I'll get anything from any of the big three.

Online Only requirements are destroying the gaming industry in general. Mostly started by corporations such as EA and their last game Sim City is a perfect example of why it does not work. Online Only means you technically don't even own any of your games. You are just renting the game or leasing your console even if you did pay in full for both game and console. I fear the new Playstation will do something similar. Fortunately, there are still Independent games for the PC and there are still handhelds like Nintendo 3DS although those have DLC too now. With the the Ipad and tablets, I fear game cartridges and disks will be a thing of the past as everything is now downloaded off the net. Oh, and Microsoft needs to stop changing Microsoft Word with each edition and adding a billion buttons and drop downs. Geez... I just need line spacing, margins, font, header and footer. Stop making my papers complicated Microsoft.
