A creative person may make something good or bad, scary or happy or funny, or just strange or disturbing, which takes a substantial amount of courage to do.
Lets say that they make something disturbing, for example a fanfic like rainbow factory
Now, another person might like the story as a creative work, they will compliment the writing and theme.
Another person might see something of themselves in the piece to such a degree that they like the idea not as an idea, but because they actually enjoy the subject instead of the idea.
Another person might think that there are a lot of those types of people and immediately think of the children, and basically come down on the artist like a ton of bricks for promoting that behavior.
Unfortunately they missed their goal by a mile, because they have now hurt someone who agrees with them and told the person they actually dislike that they should keep their secrets from others.
And omitting the work through law does nothing to fix the problem, because that individual with psychological problems had those problems before they even read the work/played the game/watched the movie/heard that song.
Art is the act of opening yourself up so that people get a glimpse of what makes you yourself, and is entirely up to interpretation. If a fifth of the people who see it stomp on your ideas then you're doing something right.
Fortunately none of this really applies to me because this site is all about anthro artwork, however if I tried to present these as legitimate pieces of art most people would be against it. People need protection from the minds of others most of the time, which is another reason art isn't always accepted.

Lots of artists have a greatly inflated ego, that despite well written criticism they still react hostilely to it even when you were trying to help them improve in what they do.
Take today on housepets, I wrote some very well written criticism of the comic, because its defying its own rules etc. And I was treating the characters as greater pieces of their wholes (Like you should in a story) and instead of being talked about, it was deleted in less then ten minutes because it wasn't blind ass kissing.
I rarely heap blind praise, because I find that doesn't help anybody.
Its not stomping on people, I'm trying to help them improve in what they do. Giving concrete criticism should never be viewed as "Hostile" if you truly want to call yourself an artist.
I'm not really an "artist" but those days when I get a critique from anyone and I feel myself start reacting to it in a bad way, its usually cuz I didnt want a critique, I just wanted to hear someone praise me for what I drew. More often than not I dont care to actually hear what could be improved, I was just being an attention whore. I'm sure its the same for a lot of other people.
I'll still ask for a legit criticism when I'm aiming to improve, but usually only at that time.
When I get a compliment it's more like an extra gift, but my goal is finding what I did wrong and then try fixing it next time.
While not entirely relevant to this journal I do think that this problem is of some importance, though the only solution is for them to accept critisism in their own time.
I'm not trying to open someones mind or find enlightenment, I just like drawing dirty pictures and hearing people say how much they enjoy those dirty pictures. :P
(I do have moments where I feel there could be something more to achieve aside from drawing casually, but thats a different topic)
