subrosareanstudios but I seem to have misplaced the password and cannot for the life of me remember the email I connected to it, so until I get that fixed, let's do this here.I've been thinking about my Elfane a lot lately and I need to rewrite a lot about them. FA has really helped a lot in the past in these kinds of journals to help me think about them in more detail.
So, ask me questions about my Elfane! You don't even need to know anything about them to help. Simply ask things like what they like to eat, their culture, etc. If you already know about my Elfane, try to ask questions that are a little more specific to their species, such as whether or not there are conflicts between elements/tribes etc.
You may not get an answer right away as some may take a lot of time for me to really get a good answer for, but any and all questions will get me thinking more about them, which is helpful!
This time, I will collect all of my responses and put them all on my site so there's a good place for everyone to look to when they want to read up about them. I know a good handful of people have been very interested in making their own Elfane and I apologize for taking so long on fleshing our their world..
Here's the start of my new description of them:
The Elfane are a small, bipedal species that wield elemental power. The typical Elfane has very long, erect ears, large eyes with vertical pupils and colored sclera, a long bushy black tail with a colored tip, a dewclaw on each foot and paw-like hands. There are 10 sub-species of Elfane with notable differences between most.
And their names:
1. Deva - Divine (Aetherian)
2. Yama - Eclipse (Chiropterian)
3. Vayu - Air (Aetherian)
4. Jala - Water (Aetherian)
5. Hima - Ice (Null)
6. Dala - Plant (Null)
7. Adhira - Lightning (Chiropterian)
8. Lavana - Ground (Null)
9. Anala - Fire (Chiropterian)
10. Sita - Neutral (Variable)

Hobbies vary among each element and individual Elfane, but common hobbies include gardening/farming, building accessories such as headdresses from flowers, and performing public duels to showcase their abilities. :)
I haven't decided on whether or not I'll actually allow mixed elements. I know that I want the Elfane to frown upon two elements making a neutral (but still respecting the neutral as an individual) to ensure the types continue to live on, but if two types were to mix, that should be a good thing.. Hm. Mixing is something I'll seriously need to consider.
Say... a water and an ice got together? Makes sense that the elements would live on.
But maybe a water and a fire would make a neutral because they cancel each other out?
My original idea for mixing was that the mixed Elfane would have only one of the elements but colors from the second one. Like, a fire and lightning Elfane would either be mostly red with yellow accents and uses fire magic, or mostly yellow with red accents and lightning magic.
Then there's the possibility of the elfane having BOTH elements. MY only concern is breeding. A mixed Elfane could be sterile? Or maybe they have a high chance of producing neutral Elfane unless they breed with an Elfane that is the type of one of their two types? HM
I think that, if you allow ALL mixed-elements to exist, it would cancel out the neutrals.... so I think having only certain elements able to mix would work best.
As for the color of one/element of the other, I think that sounds pretty good. Or perhaps some weird-ass mixed color thing XD
I think I will stick with that for now. The sisters are polar opposites. One created the Chriopterian (batlike) Elfane and the other created the Aetherian (birdlike) Elfane. Perhaps one sister looks like a Divine Elfane and the other, an Eclipse Elfane :)
You said the Elfane wield elemental magic. Is this magic important to them (both individually and culturally)? What do they choose to do with their power? Are they strictly limited to one element, or can they learn to use other elements in a limited capacity? Is it possible for an Elfane to lose its magical abilities through injury, disease, or mental/emotional trauma?
What exactly does "neutral" mean in this context? Can the neutral ones use any kind of magic, or are they devoid of magic talent? Or are they like normal-type Pokemon, possessing mostly bland attacks that aren't super effective against anyone? :p
Are there any major physical differences between the subspecies, or do they only have different color patterns?
Are they tribal? Do they mostly stick with their own element, or do they easily befriend other elements?
How do they live? Do they prefer a more pastoral life, or are they civilization builders? Do they farm or hunt? Do they have small settlements or large towns?
Do they have any predators or external enemies? Do they have any internal divisions/disagreements that might cause serious conflict?
That's all for now. World building is fun!
There are 10 sub-species of Elfane, 9 of which each have their own element or ability. They are strictly limited to one element, other than the rare occasion of a hybrid. Their abilities are very important to them, as a hobby, skill, art, and weapon, as well as a tool for every day living. At this time, I have not considered the loss of an element, however, each Elfane is born nearly powerless. They must train and hone their skills to become proficient with it. It is possible to find Elfane who cannot wield magic simply because they have not trained enough.
The neutral Elfane are the lesser "hybrids". When two incompatible elements breed, they produce a neutral Elfane who is very bland in appearance and possesses no magical abilities whatsoever.
The biggest difference between elements is their fur color. All Elfane have natural fur colors that you'd find in our mammals (orange, tan, brown, black, white, gray, etc). However, they also have one brightly colored accent that matches their element. Purple for air, red for fire, green for plant, etc. Their design can incorporate this color in any way in addition to the base natural colors. There are also structural differences between the Elfane, though not as obvious unless they're lined up. For example, the Air Elfane have thin fur on their tail with a very long, silky tuft at the end and are thin, and graceful. The Ice Elfane are stockier, and covered in very dense, thick fur. I've already begun a diagram to show these differences, so I wont get into TOO much detail, but they also vary in height, body types, ear an muzzle length and temperament. The element of the Elfane changes everything about it.
They are very much tribal. They lack almost any technology and live off of the land. They are hunter gatherers, but also farmers. I cant remember if hunter/gatherers farm.. Something is telling me no though, so I'll look into the proper description later, but basically they hunt, gather fruits/veggies from the wild, and also grow and harvest their own. Each element has its own "habitat" that they're generally found in and stick to, but it's not too uncommon for them to move around to other communities. They rarely mingle with other sentient species, however. Some elements get along better than others. Their temperaments greatly affect how easily they click. The impulsive, frazzled Lightning type may not jive so well with the calm, focused Water Elfane.
Oops, kinda went over that already! The Elfane do not like to affect the land that they live on too much. They prefer to take what is given to them and leave it as it were. They do not build permanent structures, and they replant/rebuild anything they tear down.
At this point in time, I need to do a lot of considerations to enemies. I once had a separate, technologically advanced species that would capture the Elfane and attempt to tinker with their DNA, but I need to check on some things before I continue with that thought. Other than that, I have another tribal species (Alterec) that are much more aggressive than the Elfane, and while they do not have any personal conflicts between them, I'd imagine that they'd fight over the Alterec's lack of respect for nature. The Elfane also do not have any concept of territory so I'd imagine they'd naively tread on land they don't belong in. I am considering adding nagas to a part of their world as well, which may prey on the small Elfane. That is all that I have in the works currently in that department though. Otherwise, they are located very far from civilization. They're located on Earth, but they're thought of like unicorns. Some people believe in them, but they're crazy. ;)
Thanks for your help ;u; I love world building <3 Hopefully that all makes sense haha. It's way past my bedtime and I really need to get to sleep now!
You mentioned the Elfane form communities, but you also said they do not build permanent structures. Does that mean they're nomadic? Or at least semi-nomadic? Are there no permanent communities? If there are permanent settlements, do they name their villages? Do they, like certain other sentient species, like to name every single landmark they find?
Where do they sleep (tents, lean-to, hollow logs, out in the open, etc.)?
What do they like to eat and drink? You said they hunt and farm, but what specifically do they prefer to hunt or grow?
Are they more active during the day or during the night?
How strong is their relationship with the two goddesses? Can they actually talk to their creators, or do they get divine signs or omens sometimes, or do they just have very strong faith?
If an Elfane is shunned by its community for any reason, is there a chance they can find a place in a new community, or are they pretty much doomed to wander alone forever?
Do the Elfane ever fight each other? Have they ever known war amongst themselves? On a smaller scale, what might cause two individuals to come into direct conflict?
They don't mingle with other species, and they mostly stick to their elemental "habitat." Does this mean that they don't explore or wander far from their usual homes?
Come to think of it, we know that they prefer to keep the company of their own element, so we can assume that a given village will be dominated by one element, with a minority of compatible elements and perhaps an even smaller minority of incompatible elements. Can we then logically assume that not every element will be represented in every village? If they like to let water, air, and divine types settle disputes, what happens if a village doesn't have one of those elements in it? How do they settle conflicts in that case? Do they have to go to another village that does have one of the wise noble ones? (I hope I'm not overstepping any bounds by making these assumptions.)
You said some of them like to make headdresses out of flowers. Do they have any other crafts or skills? Do they ever use materials that are a little more lasting, like wood or stone? Do they use tools, or does their magic take care of everything?
That's it for this set. I hope I'm not taking up too much of your time with all these questions.
They are neutral in gender bias (and appearance!) but genetics favor the father. If two winged Elfane of different incompatible elements were to mate, they'd produce a neutral Elfane which would have wings that take after the fathers wings. If two Elfane of different but compatible elements (ie water and ice) were to mate, most of the offspring would take after the fathers element, in rare cases, a hybrid.
The Elfane run their society in such a way that everyone has a purpose and contributes something to get something. There are the hunters, there are the farmers, those who prepare food and distribute it, etc. Every Elfane feels they have a responsibility and contributes to their society and not too many complain about it. If an Elfane were to reject their duties, they'd be punished by restricted rations, and eventually ahunning if they refuse to participate. Your duties are determined by your type, but changes can be made if someone shows that they excel in a different field of work.
If two elements breed and are compatible, the offspring take after the father, or on rare occasions, a hybrid is created. The hybrids are infertile and cannot reproduce.
Does that answer your question ;u;
Also, I know that currently you are on haitus, so I won't be upset if you don't respond right away. I was thinking about it, so I would like to ask as I haven't seen this posted anywhere ( i may have missed it though)
What elfane elements are compatible with each other? I'd assume similar elements like Plant and Earth, or Ice and Water, but do you actually have a list? I'm curious now since you changed it from element babies only being able to come from two of the same element ^^
Also, AGES ago, I asked you about the magical strength, and you gave me this list:
From strongest to weakest, I'd have to say:
Fire - Very strong
Plant - Very Strong
Water - Strong
Electric - Balanced
Earth - Balanced
Ice - Not very strong
Air - Not very strong
Neutral - Weak
Is that still accurate, or has it changed?
