Part 35
>D: Ana: Sword/Speed combo- Phio: Distraction
You stared at the Green-Cloak, and he stared back at you- his gleaming feline eyes being the only part of his face that was visible under his hood- as the pre-battle tension steadily built. Phio merely stood behind him, ready to join in once the fight truly got underway and preventing the spy's escape in the meantime. It wasn't long before the tension finally broke, and the unknown Felinid threw the first punch at you. Not missing a beat, a simple step to the side allowed you to counter with a high kick- blocked by superior reflexes. Phiodel charged in with his daggers drawn, pulling Green-Cloak's attention away from you long enough to draw your sword and start swinging. Suddenly facing two attackers, his ability to dodge and block began to slip- up until one of Phiodel's daggers cut a tear through one of the corners of his prey's cape, at which point his tactics began to change.
Instead of trying to make contact with his opponent's limbs, and thus keeping their hits from getting through, he simply moved out of the way entirely by using his natural flexibility. As long as he focused on evasion, you would have to rely on luck to get a decent hit or wait for him to get worn out- provided that he did before you or Phio. No, this won't do, you need to find a way of getting him down for the count right away. Sparing all the concentration that you can on figuring out how to stop this guy, you realize that he's adapted to facing against two opponents during the fight. Maybe if you back out, he'll return to fending off Phio and give you an opening. It might put him at risk, but hopefully nothing will go seriously wrong. Taking one final swing, you leap away into a ruined corner of the house and pretend to take a breather.
Phio does well enough keeping the enemy on his feet, but he is soon back to using his paws to block the incoming dagger blows by the wrist- just as planned. With your focus back outside of the fight, you carefully analyze every motion that the Green-Cloak makes, trying to catch the best possible moment to strike.
(Attention penalty: He is too fast and you hesitate.)
You barely register it: the perfect strike. His back fully turned to you; both arms raised in defense; seemingly no indication that he was aware of the threat- but you didn't recognize it until the instant had passed. Cursing, you rush forward in frustration, and the resulting blow is completely blocked. Worse than blocked, you find yourself flung onto your ally by the power of your own momentum. You and Phio both fall onto the busted remains of a chair, as the Green-Cloak quickly moves to stand over you. Before you have a chance to do anything, he raises an arm and raises his paw at your face. With a quick flash of energy, your ears are suddenly bombarded by a horrible noise that seems to knock all of your senses completely out of tune with your brain. You become blinded and paralyzed for a moment, but you still manage to hear his voice as he addresses you directly.
(A/N: The correct action was C, as Phio has two weapons to fight with meaning a faster attack. This would have resulted in a successful capture :P As I said, choose carefully)
"You're on the wrong side, Anamaki. Have you ever tried listening instead of fighting? Your magic is important to us, find me and I'll tell you how so. Until then, I will continue to watch weather you like it or not."
You figure that he was cryptic because he didn't have time to continue, as the effects of that awful noise had quickly started to wear off, returning your vision albeit incredibly blurry. You slowly got to your feet, but by the time you were on both legs again, the Green-Cloak had disappeared. You struggle to the front door, and you only catch a glimpse of a swirling gust of sand on the road- most likely indicating that he had just used that strange gusting wind power of his to get away more quickly. While this whole encounter seemed to produce many more questions, you think you have one answer: he is willing to talk if you are...
Turning back, you help Phio back to his feet as well. He heaved out a sigh upon realizing that the opponent had escaped.
"He got away?"
You nod your head, barely able to believe it yourself. You were certain that you would have an enemy captive to bring to the funeral. Speaking of which, you realize how late the day has gotten. Through the large hole in the ceiling, you can tell that the sun is starting to lower behind the trees. The Hunter funeral is going to start very soon now, and you still haven't decided weather you're going to spend the few hours that it will take. While attending the Funeral is encouraged, it's not required and you could just as easily spend the few hours that it would take getting a head start on the search for Glowstalk. However, it seemed that you've just been given a number of unexpected alternatives...
(Funeral is in 2 turns from now.)
>HP: 23/27

A: Prepare for the Funeral (Skip to the Funeral; minor improvement to all stats; no effect to Peemeter.)
B: Prepare to search for Glowstalk (Skip the Funeral entirely, same stat effects as above.)
C: Meet with Dorza and Dorze, add them to party (This is going to happen one way or another, this just affects how the Funeral goes.)
D: Send Phio to go ahead to the Funeral, look for Green-Cloak alone. (Instigates a more calm talk with him.)
E: Find a place to relieve yourself before doing anything. (As it says :P)
