Sign a petition against Ex-Gay conversion therapy.

I have decided to love. If you are seeking the highest good, I think you can find it through love. And the beautiful thing is that we are moving against wrong when we do it, because John was right, God is love. He who hates does not know God, but he who has love has the key that unlocks the door to the meaning of ultimate reality.
~Martin Luther King Jr.
One word frees us of all the weight and pain in life. That word is Love.

Hello everyone!
yeldarbis has formed a petition seeking to abolish ex-gay/conversion therapy.
If you have a moment please consider signing it.
Here's what the petition says:
The practice of Conversion Therapy/Reparative Therapy is unethical and harmful to homosexuals as well as their friends and family. Professional organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association state that homosexuality should not be considered an illness or mental disorder and oppose attempts of conversion therapy. They also state that sexual orientation is not a choice and CANNOT be changed.
The fact that counselors and foundations can claim they can "cure" a gay person endorses the idea of homophobia which causes depression and increases suicidal rates for gay people. Also, the success stories are not consistent and have been recanted.
The harm under this therapy is immoral and shouldn't be used to trick gays into trying to change themselves. Abolish it now to end the hate!
You can sign the petition here: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pe.....-down/sT9ZdNGw
And for the record, both Wes and I have signed.

I just feel that the purpose behind this is just for cruelty and an excuse to ignore tolerance. Leviticus and other verses say to stone or condemn the gay man to death or as an abomination; I don't recall reading anything that suggests that they should try to cure us.
Concerning legislative actions, there has been some discussion barring minors from undergoing conversion therapy. However it's all been squabbles and debate over studies and whether or not the minor should be restrained from their choice (supposing their parents aren't forcing them to). But the general perspective from the population, in my opinion, would agree that this is wrong. And that we shouldn't allow the people behind this therapy to wait for "expected" results when they know the truth about sexual orientation.
These therapies have been going on for years, people thought "what's the harm?" But even after they realized the effort was lost, people haven't openly asked "Why isn't this illegal?" I think we need to voice our opinion alongside the PROFFESIONAL experts to convince our government what should be done. And I feel we could make the quickest progress through a petition on the whitehouse website.

If it comes to it, I guess I could contact another congressman from Texas who isn't in my area, but again it just seems from my position to raise the issue with as many people who will support it. And if this doesn't change the legislation, it will potentially influence it to consider making steps to fix the problem. But talking to some people (my own relatives) who are so strict on the issue won't listen to even me saying that gays can be christian too.
