At one time fighting in a war usually came with a lot of honor, possibly some money if you managed to take some of the rich dudes prisoner (the ones with house banners and horses tend to be these guys), and fighting in battles was a sure way to at least push back approaching armies and protecting your homes.
In the present people don't carry house banners, just country flags. Prisoners of war don't tend to net any money for the soldiers who capture them since handing out medals is cheaper and doesn't run the risk of a soldier selling a real villain back to their country. While soldiers fight ground battles still, most notable military attacks involve missiles and bombs, two things that ground troops have no hope of preventing from reaching their families.
Making better weapons will have the effect of making older weapons obsolete unless they change fast enough. Humans in war are a kind of weapon, since more of them can change the course of battle. Therefore, humans cannot participate in war and remain a powerful weapon forever. We have already passed that point, with certain weapons being "unusable" in war simply because they are made specifically to kill people as fast as possible, like certain chemical weapons or the use of nukes. The first country to aim for defensive rather than offensive technology will be the one to take over the world, because powerful weapons are unusable.

Reasons for war can only become petty once we can access dead planets for resources.
That may not happen again because the purpose of war is different now.
Booing soldiers is purely malicious from the sound of it. A person leave their country to live and work in a place that may do its best to kill them, they get almost nothing for years of this, and each time they do come home some person who doesn't even know them and has merely generalized them as yet another soldier takes an hour out of their schedule to boo at some people. If they dislike war why not boo at the people who make it rather than the people who result from it?
...AND DISAGREE!!!
...and then agree some more, and disagree after that, followed by some agreement, with an aftertaste of disagreement.
I could write a book proving and disproving different parts of your argument. I COULD, but I doubt anyone wants to read a wall of text. I suppose it very much depends on your definition of "war".
War isn't about honor, or even about defending something. It never has been.
War is when the leader of a place or people wants something, and he sends his people to kill and die until he gets it. That's it.
Even in a defensive scenario, you're not defending your home, you're defending your master's interests.
A leader on the defensive will sacrifice any amount of land or lives in order to protect whichever parts of his territory gain him the most money and/or deny the enemy the same.
War sucks. We only throw words like "honor" around in order to give ourselves an excuse to do it. War has always been the fastest way for those with political power to gain MORE power or hold on to the power they already have. Even in THIS nation.
After Napoleon's heyday, nations took all the children of all their people away and forced them through special schooling which taught them that war is an honorable pursuit, and that dieing in the name of one's country was a glorious and desirable end. This ensured that people would be willing, even eager, to lay down their lives for "the glory of their flag and to defend their homeland".
You know what they called those special schools? The "children's garden". Or kindergarten.
Also, we're tool users. The naked unarmed human went obsolete thousands of hears ago. Even as missiles become more advanced, we equip individuals with better technology to counter it. Several nations have systems in place that enable a couple people to take down anything larger than a rifle round before it reaches the target. Humans are a kind of weapon, but the tools we use are what determine that weapon's capabilities.
