So, I just saw the new Fathers' Day special of 'Regular Show' and got a big dose of something that I have almost never seen, not even from Japan. In fact, I say "almost" because I want to be a bit modest about it but really, I can't think of any examples at all.

So, Spoiler Alert from here on out.

Mordechai goes to a family barbecue at Margaret's house with the intent of getting a handshake from her dad, which is seemingly impossible according to Eileen. Now all the rest of Margaret's extended family members are anthropomorphic robins, like her, her mother included. Her dad... is a human. And make no mistake, he's not a stepdad or a technical dad or anything. If the photos are an indication he's her biological father. There's even a point where her mother expresses continued emotional and physical attraction towards him. This is amazing!

One of my complaints about popular media, which turned into a multi-page discussion on FiMFiction, is that when a human and non-human come together, if the non-human is female she will be the humanest looking humanlike thing that ever humaned. She might have ears and a tail but she might not. Japan is very guilty of this, mostly because the US shies away from the subject most of the time. Now, the MALES in this category can look like beasts. Animal heads, animal bodies, you name it. Beauty and the Beast, anyone? This was always my pet peeve about fantasy dating sims, pretty much equal to my contempt for the fact that you can't date your neighbors in Animal Crossing. So this was a breath of fresh air. A human male and a decidedly non-human-looking female. With a functional relationship that produced a child. Now if I could just get pony writers to write more female Diamond Dog/Male pony stories. I can't do it all myself.
