[b](Okay, Author's Note time! The plot is now officially planned out to the end, and multiple possible endings are planned. Heres a hint to a possible good ending: if you wanted to keep the tiger twins out of it, too friggin' bad! :P Do not ignore them if you want a really good ending. We're about half-way through the story now, about 30-40 more parts before this one is over and I'll be making a new Interactive Story world.)
Part 40
>A: No breaks!
The entire trip was exhausting, to say the least, as mile after mile turned into hour upon hour, all the while your body's urges becoming more insistent. Still, the travel was starting to pay off. The further north you went, the further you got into some VERY unfamiliar territory. The bright green leaves and vines slowly transformed into a duller shade, sported by prickly, spiny leaves. If they could be called that. You had never seen a Pine tree before, and the lack of colorful growths was extremely confusing to you. As you try to get your bearings back, the branch underneath you suddenly give way to your weight, forcing you to get a firm grip on the trunk. Not only were these trees incredibly different from those of the jungle in appearance, they were also much weaker.
"Everyone be careful, these branches can't support us."
"Where the hell are we!?"
Phio's expressive question was one that you probably couldn't answer, but Dorza seemed to have a decent guess.
"Uh, other side of the world maybe? We've been travelling enough for it."
You ignore the banter for now. Climbing up as high as you can, you try to get a good view of the surrounding area. Maybe you can see a patch of Glowstalk from here. You remember the Fyremead Alchemist's description of the plant, a three-leafed herb, with a glowing stalk and bulb that grew from the middle. And just out of the corner of your eye, you can see a soft glow in between a few trees.
"Over there, let's go!"
You lead your friends toward the light, hoping that it is coming from what you're looking for. Once you're close enough, you leap down to ground level and walk the rest of the way, finding that it is, indeed, Glowstalk. The bulbous tops tower above you and your party, almost able to brush against the high-up branches of the surrounding trees. Despite your success, however, your senses begin to tell you that it isn't safe to be here. Looking at Phio, Dorza and Dorze, you find that they are also beginning to look rather shifty. Following your senses, you lead them toward a grouping of nearby bushes, hiding from whatever might be out there. Within a few seconds, you were able to hear low, gruff voices coming from the other side of the glowing plants, speaking in an unknown language that you recognized as the one used by the Canids that attacked the Wenta much earlier.
"Canids?" Phio was already worked up to a pouncing stance next to you, having recognized the language as well.
"Maybe, lets try to figure this out before we do anything."
You sneak around the edges of the clearing, followed closely by your three friends, as you try to get a better view of what you're actually facing. As soon as you get a good angle, you immediately spot them: two Canids, one male and one female. Apparently they have different standards of modesty than your people, as they both seem to be wearing nothing but a simple loincloth- the female completely lacking any chest coverings. You could almost swear that you could see her nipples in the light of the Glowstalk. Putting it out of your mind, you notice that she is actually holding a bucket underneath a small gash that the male Wolf had made in the membrane of the towering stalk. Upon looking closer, the odd plant was leaking a strange, brightly glowing liquid into the bucket. They must be some kind of harvesters or florists, you figure. It might be worth attacking them and taking this strange liquid for yourself, it would certainly make figuring out it's contents much easier.
Then again, you already found what you needed to find, and knowing that this liquid existed in these stalks was extremely helpful- you could figure this out at your own pace now, without causing any harm. Plus, you are tired enough as it is, you could just focus on this in the morning if you need to. In fact, you're so tired that you almost forgot how bad your need to urinate was getting, the mental reminder making your legs rub together a bit.
