1. What are your basic prices?
My basic price guide is as follows:
$5 for a simple sketch, no inking, little or no shading, no color.
$10 for an inked lineart, little or no shading, no color.
$15 for an inked work with simple monochrome shading, no color. ( ex. http://tinyurl.com/kjprkzv)
$15 for an inked work with flat colors, no shading. (ex. http://tinyurl.com/mf5m9h6)
$25 for an inked work with color and shading. (ex. http://tinyurl.com/kfl5pfr http://tinyurl.com/kcobjcu)
Add %15 to the total cost for every extra character beyond two.
Add %20 to the total cost for a detailed background.
Also offered:
$3 for a pixel avatar up to 200x200 px.
$20 (+ shipping if physical copy is desired) for a full-color digital badge (from the waist up).
$35 + shipping for a traditional badge done in ink and colored pencil.
$45 or more + shipping for a traditional ink piece and/or colored pencil piece. (ex. http://tinyurl.com/lcspygp)
I am also very interested in making custom buttons for clients as I own my own button machine. These buttons are 1.25” in diameter with a metal pin back. Custom buttons will usually run $10 for the art design in flat colors, plus another $1 per button ordered and shipping charges. Wholesale rates can be negotiated for orders over 30 buttons per design, and orders can be as low as one custom button.
2. Is there anything you won't do?
There is very, very little that I will not draw. I'll draw humans, anthros, animals, aliens, fan art, monster, original characters, SFW, NSFW, and most fetishes (including things like hardcore bondage and gore). I will NOT draw mecha, scat, and/or any clearly underage characters in sexual situations. If you have questions as to what I will and will not do, shoot me a message and I will be happy to give you an answer. Seriously though, it has to be pretty intense if I won't even take a crack at it.
3. Is there anything you love to draw/are really good at?
Plenty! I really like drawing anthros of any sort, Homestuck characters, and feminine characters. As for what I'm good at; I excel in limited palette pieces, artistic nudes, bondage, hair, and feet. If you're looking for anything like that, I will be more than happy to oblige.
4. How does the commission process go?
The process is pretty simple: You contact me over email stating you want a commission and describing what you want. I send back a price quote. Once I've been paid the agreed amount and details are sorted out, I will use any references you send me to create a piece for you. I may or may not send you progress shots or sketches depending on our agreement. After the work is completed, I will send you the finished work.
5. How can I contact you about a commission?
If you are interested in commissioning me, please send me an email at rin.wolfe{at}aol{.}com and place the word 'commission' in the subject of the message. I will respond to you as soon as I can. If you have any questions, you are more than free to send me a message, but I will not handle commission requests or quotes through over messages other an email.
6. What would make the price of a commission differ from the price stated above?
The price stated above is a base price for a single piece featuring up to two characters. Adding more characters or a background beyond the standards solid color or simple background will increase the price. Pieces that will be more labor intensive, such as those involving extremely intricate costuming, large landscapes or scenes, or group shots with an excessive number of characters will likely incur an additional cost as well.
7. How can I pay you and what is the payment process?
Outside of a convention, I will only take payment through my paypal address, which will be provided after we settle on a price. The only exception to this would be handing me payment in real life at a convention where I have a table, to be completed during or after the convention. All of my payment is in USD, and I do not take any kind of online-exclusive currency at the moment.
The payment process differs depending on the amount. For anything under $30, I require payment upfront. This is refundable in case I cannot complete the commission for whatever reason. For a commission over $30, I require half of my payment at the beginning, and half before you receive the final piece. The initial sum you pay is nonrefundable, unless I cannot complete the commission. This is simply my own insurance so that I do not lose money working on a complicated piece.
Traditional pieces will require a nonrefundable deposit at the beginning of the process to cover any material costs in the case that the commission cannot be completed.
If, for any reason, I cannot complete the commission in a reasonable time frame, I will contact you to work out issuing a refund.
8. What kind of references do you need?
I will require adequate photo or written references to complete the commission. If I can find photo references from a cursory online search (basically anything that isn't an original character), you will not need to send references. However, for original or obscure characters/objects/etc I will need you to send me photo references of this specific character/object/etc so that I can complete your commission to the best of my abilities. If no photo reference is available, a detailed written description (as well as possible approval of sketches) will be needed, unless I am designing a character for you.
9. What program do you use to draw, and what resolution/file type will my commission be?
I use Paint Tool SAI for the majority of my work, plus GIMP for text and effects. You can request a file type and resolution, but most work will be in a default .png file type, 300dpi resolution, and at least 1000x1000 px in size, if not larger. I can provide you with most file types at your request, with the exception of .sai and .psd files, as I will not give those out. 300dpi is the standard resolution for 'HD', but if you require something else, please state so before I begin working on your commission. I tend to draw my files very large, but I can compress them down to a smaller size if you wish after we are finished.
10. Can I request progress shots?
Yes, you may request progress shots. Please note that progress shots will be watermarked, and you do not have permission to post these anywhere online. If I find them posted, I will request them be taken down by the hosting site and I may choose not to complete the commission.
It's fine to request progress shots, especially of complicated pictures, but please use common sense. Having to stop several times in one session to give progress shots will only prolong your wait, and I have the right to not issue progress shots after excessive requests.
11. Can I post my commission on [insert site]?
You are free to post your finished commission anywhere you want as long as it follows these three rules:
1. You will credit me in the description of the work (ex. Linking to my Tumblr or website, stating my name and Tumblr).
2. You will not take credit for the artwork as your own.
3. You will not receive any financial compensation for posting the work (such as ad revenue, selling prints, etc).
It's also preferred and polite if you ask before posting the work anywhere. If you do not follow these three rules (ex. giving no credit, selling prints of the work), I will file request with the hosting site to get my work taken down, and I will definitely be noting down the name of the person who violated my terms. Finding out where a piece has been posted is very easy to uncover with the advent of the reverse image search on Google, so please keep that in mind.
Also note that, unless you request otherwise, I will be posting the commission on my Tumblr and other related art sites with a credit to any original characters in the description. If you would like for me not to post the piece (ex. it's a gift, it's personal), you are free to request so.
12. Can I commission you for other things such as writing, making art for my game, etc?
You are free to ask! I do enjoy writing and I may potentially be interested in making art for a game, illustrations for a book, and much more! If you are interested in anything that hasn't been listed here, send me an email at the address above and I will get back to you as to whether I would be interested, and we can work from there.
13. Do you offer any kind of discount?
The short answer is no. The only people who get automatic discounts are good friends, and if you have to ask whether you are a good friend, you are probably not (at least not yet!) I will sometimes have sales (e.g. $1 quick sketches), but these rates do not apply unless stated.
14. How do you determine your prices?
My prices are based on how long it might take to complete a piece. While commissions are not my primary form of income, they are very important in being able to save up for things that I need, and for having money to be comfortable. The calculated wage for my work is more than fair in terms of how long and hard I work to create something, and usually ends up being far less than what would be charged from commercial artists. As I progress and improve, prices are likely to increase, as my labor becomes more skilled. Traditional pieces cost more as I have more experience and training in traditional art, and because these pieces require using supplies which have to be occasionally replenished.
