Hey guys!!
As you probably know, I'll be getting my first fursuit & suiting for the first time at Anthrocon!
I am pretty sure I have everything I need, but I wonder if there's anything special or a cool tip you guys could give me being I wear glasses.
Now before you recommend the obvious; no I cannot wear contacts! I have tried over 10 different kinds over the years. My eyes simply reject them, and the contacts always without fail scratch the surface of my eyes. Also I cannot just not wear my glasses. I am basically on the legally blind spectrum without them!! (My prescriptions are insane!!)
One thing I did get that was recommended to me is an Under Armour skull cap http://www.amazon.com/Solid-Skullca.....rmour+skullcap which I was told is great in general but especially if you wear glasses!!
Does anyone else have any other recommendations? I guess my biggest fear is that they will slide off my face as the day goes on, or fog up.
Thanks!!
You can easily find these things online or at your local stores. :3
Put anti-fog on them, like professional swimmers put on their goggles and scuba divers use on their goggles.
A little late for this one, but Get a suit head from someone that has made suits for glasses wearers in the past. Glasses add dimension to your face, and a 'regular' suit head will pinch and crush your glasses. Alternatively, you might be able to carve out the foam on the inside of your head to add room for your glasses, but I would be careful with that. Different suitmakers use different methods to keep the suit head on your face. I know Artslave, for example, uses a method that puts more pressure on the sides of your head, and some, my own included, rely a bit more on your forehead and nose. If your suit RELIES on your nose and forehead, carving for your glasses would just make the suit head 'droop'.
My maker knows I wear glasses & assured me it will be roomy enough for them inside. She's had customers that wear glasses in the past!
Thank you so much though, this all helps a ton!
I just trained myself to breathe out of my mouth( my mouth lines up with the mouth of my suit.) rather than my nose. Doing that drastically lessens the fogging. Sometimes, if it's a short outing, I go without my glasses. It's blurry as fuck, but I can still make out ok.
I also heard Rain-X works, but never tried it.
basically, you set it up so that one fan blows air into the head, and another (usually on the top/hidden by the ears or located in ear vents) blows air out. i don't typically wear my glasses in suit, but when i do, i don't have a problem with them fogging up.
I've heard you can get away with only one fan inside the head, pointing out through the mouth (theoretically, fresh air is drawn in through the eyes), but i've never had any luck with that. granted, at the time, i was using the strategy for cooling, rather than de-fogging.
hope that helps! :3
Thank you so much!
even if it doesn't end up working for defogging, man, fans are life-savers! :3
The main thing is that you specified you needed the extra space in the head when you commissioned the suit!

Thank you so much, helps a bunch!!
Ah, brilliant! That's the main thing. =3 One of my heads is really fitting, so makes my glasses cut into my face. x3x Not a pleasant experience.
Oh gosh I think even if my head is a bit snug they won't cut into my face!! D: They're a very soft matte plastic material, these glasses!! They don't have any sharp edges or corners. x3 But still it would be uncomfy if they were pressing into my face. X.X
I'm p. much legally blind without my glasses too-- So I'm glad someone asked about this!
Thanks a ton, this helps a lot!!
I wear glasses, but I use contacts most of the time so I tend to not have the glasses issue in suit, but the few times I have tried it, I had fogging issues and also it was hard for me to fit them inside my head. Anti fog should fix that first issue right up, and working with your suit maker on allowing a little extra space inside the head should help accommodate the size of your glasses.
Also, since it'll be your first time suiting, I waned to give you a heads up and say make sure you drink lots of water and don't overdo it the first few times you wear the suit! It gets hot inside those costumes, and making sure you're hydrated is a VERY important part of suiting. My EX went for four hours the first time he suited and nearly had to go to the hospital because he dehydrated and overheated himself. Take it in short periods of time the first few times you wear it, try to limit it to about 1-2 hours per outing to keep you feeling good! It's exhausting to wear those suits and you don't want to make yourself sick or tire out too much!
I know I sound like a concerned mom, but I'm just passing on some advice from personal experience XD I know I had to learn alot of these things on my own and it didn't always end well for me :x Also, if the suit seems unbearable for the first few times you wear it, don't fret! I used to think I wasn't cut out for suiting because it was too tough for me at first, but blondefoxy told me that it's a matter of getting used to it. The more you wear your suit, the less trouble it will be over time!
And yeah, I've been told by lots of others the water thing!! I intend to drink plenty. However the breaking it up into few hour sessions I didn't hear yet so that's a great idea and very helpful!! I definitely do not want dehydration or heat stroke. D: My bf will be my handler so I know he won't let me go without drinking for too long!!
You don't sound like a concerned mom at all, all your advice & stuff is amazingly helpful. ;u; Thank you so so much!!
Look for a pair that's smaller and lower-profile than your regular pair -- or just get frames so cheap and lightweight that you could pop out the lenses to mount in your suit directly! (Be advised that your suit eyes would have to be VERY close to your face to get the right focal length._
But thank you!! Those are good ideas!!
They should make these specially made designed glasses that can be worn on the outside of the suit or built-in to the eye pieces. I'm sure there's probably a way to do that glasses users who need them. :o
They won't slide off. Also they won't fog- your breath normally exits the mouth of the fursuit.
What you have to worry about is space.
Oh! And don't forget to take your glasses off first when taking off your head. THAT HURTS D:
