Part 41
>B: Wait for the Canids to leave.
Letting out a low breath, you disengage your body from the pouncing stance that you had been slowly building yourself into. This is a battle that shouldn't be fought, and you know it. Placing a hand on Phio's shoulder sends him the same message, but he is slower to understand, only accepting your silent command a few seconds later with a huff. Turning your attention back to the Canids, they've already completed most of their work, having filled up the bucket. The male was busy sealing the puncture that they had made in the Glowstalk's membrane with something that you couldn't get a good look at. Just as well, you probably wouldn't know how to use whatever it was anyway. You take just a second to determine a few things- total darkness provided by the trees, you're downwind, the glowing plants could keep you shielded at the right angles- before making a bold attempt to move closer.
(Attention Bonus: More Info on the Canids)
Your silent movements and boldness pay off for once as you manage to secure a hidden spot right behind one of the brightly-lit plants. It was only right about then that you realized you were able to see and hear with the same clarity that you were able to a few days ago, before being afflicted with whatever power the Canids had used to dull these senses. It seemed that whatever they had done, it was limited to the areas around the Wenta Village and the surrounding jungles. Getting your mind back on track, you focused on the two Canids as they started their trek back toward wherever they had come from, watching as they walked and talked in their native tongue. If it wasn't for the color of their fur or the shape of their heads, you would have sworn that they were Felinid, but part of your mind still insisted that they were just a different kind of animal.
Soon, they were gone, returned home. You decide that it was a good thing you got close enough to see which way they went, as there is a path through the trees that might take you to them, should you decide to eventually follow. Coming out of your hiding spot, you wave the other three over, and they quickly join you. Dorza was the first to speak up.
"What was that about? We had a pretty good chance to attack, they didn't look armed."
"They were civilians, brother." Dorze beat you to the response, but you still had something to add.
"And they could still lead us to more. I saw them go down a path over there."
Phio was rather quick to react to this information, pulling his daggers out and heading in the direction that you had pointed in, but you quickly step in front of him.
"Doesn't mean we're going anywhere just yet, though. There's something I still need to see..."
Even more so than before, the Hunter lion hesitantly allowed himself to calm down and put away his twin blades. You're not sure that you've ever seen Phiodel this agitated before, but all you can really do is hope that he pulls himself together while you get to work. You turn to the Glowstalk and kneel down at the stem, pulling your sword from it's sheath. Asking around for a container, Dorze hands you one which you place against the thin stem before using your blade to make a large cut into the membrane of the massive plant. Before long, the container is completely filled with the strange, glowing innards of Glowstalk, forcing you to remove it before it gets lost under the waterfall of bright secretions.
Oh, waterfalls, bad thoughts to be having right now...!
You take the liquid container and put it away before doubling over at the sudden self-reminder of how much you need to go. It surprised you how long you had managed to go without noticing it- maybe Hunter training helped Hunters and Huntresses control themselves and the Canid curse thing made it more difficult to this is such a bad time to be speculating on this! With the container safely secured and filled with the essence of Glowstalk, you tried to think about what should be done next, but a sudden coldness on your feet prompted you to look. The glowing liquid was still draining from the humongous herb, and the rip you had made was getting bigger. When it came to walls and breaking four of them, it was a good thing that you didn't actually know what a bladder looked like.
