(A/N: This one came fast, but there might be further delays soon. My tooth pains are back and putting an edge on my state of mind. As long as things don't continue to get worse, you'll see more parts more frequently, but it's not really my call...)
Part 42
>D: Find out what's wrong with Phio
(Also I forgot to add an item in the last part.)
Item recieved: +1 Glowstalk Secretions
As you watch the glowing liquid rush out from the Glowstalk plant's broken stem, it started to deflate and fall over. The Canids working in this area would likely realize something was up if they came back, as an entire source of whatever this stuff was used for was now essentially destroyed. Having gotten what you needed from the dying plant, your attention to the shrinking bulb faded and you turned back to your friends. Phiodel was, naturally, the first one you noticed. He still had his eyes on the path the gatherer Canids had taken earlier, only occasionally shifting his gaze toward you, clearly waiting for your go-ahead to follow. He was clearly worked up, more than ready for a fight. He WANTED a fight. And you want some answers from him, but before you could voice your concerns, a loud yawn came from the male tiger twin, Dorza, who spoke up.
"Okay, did you get what we came for? Can we go and sleep now?"
This trip had definitely gone on far past your normal bed time, and you were as tired as anyone else there, but you still had to talk down the Hunter Lion and try to get some answers out of him about his behavior.
(-10% Attention from sleepiness)
"How about you and Dorze go find a place to nap? Phio and I will find you soon."
The Tiger shrugged and walked off with his sister. That was that then, you suppose. Turning back to Phio, you can see him calming down a bit already, understanding that he wouldn't be fighting anything tonight.
"So, we won't be going after those Canids?" He asked.
You shake your head. "Not tonight. Even if we were fully rested, we wouldn't actually know how tough they are. We'll need to do all of this very carefully, rather than with blades flying around."
The Lion turned his attention toward the ground, apparently very interested in some particular blade of grass.
"Why do you want to fight them so badly anyway?" You continued.
He was quick to respond.
"Why wouldn't you? You've seen what they did to our village this morning, how many were killed, how many were crying at the Funeral. How many more are lost outside the village every single day? There's always another missing team. They're hunting us and taking us down, well now I want to bring the fight to them while there's still a fight to be had, and this is as close as I've ever been."
His voice was slowly starting to rise toward the end of that explanation, but he was staying mainly calm. There was definitely some truth and reason to his words, but somehow you could sense that there was some deeper meaning to them.
"Phio, those were just gatherers, not fighters. Attacking them would have been like the Canids attacking any normal family back home."
"Ana, do you hear yourself? They're mongrels, they probably don't even understand what a family is. They just attack, and those two would have either attacked us or ran if they saw us watching them."
You can hardly believe what you just heard. Phio had just described the Canids as animalistic beasts, right after watching them use tools to extract the innards of a herb with MUCH greater efficiency than even you could manage. And after what the Green-Cloak had told you of their civilization, the idea that they were just mindless attackers was more than a little hard to swallow. Suddenly your Father's earlier words seemed a little more trivial. Before you could think on it any further, a sudden bladder spasm caused you to tense up and stand completely still, trying not to show your need to the Lion standing in front of you.
(Embarrassment: +10%)
"A-alright, what is this really about? You heard them talking and you saw them extract stuff from that Glowstalk, you know they aren't really like that. Why do you really want to kill them?"
He stared hard at you for a moment which, admittedly, made it pretty difficult to not reach for your groin simply out of desperation. Still, you stood your ground, knowing that there was something else behind his attitude, and he soon sighed in defeat.
"Fine, since you asked... you remember yesterday when I led you to that group of killed Hunters?"
You nod, remembering perfectly that there were two dead Hunters and a single Canid warrior. One of the Felinids was a female, and now that you think back on it, Phio had taken something from her body. Phio opened his pouch once you confirmed that you remembered, pulling out a wooden trinket with a symbol for "Savior" in your language carved into it.
"This was the girl's. I had made it for her a long time ago, when she took me in."
Your eyes widened at the implication. You easily remembered the Lion's childhood story, how his parents were killed by Yaggan.
"When my Mother and Father died, she was the only one that would take me. So I made that for her. She became like my second mother, and was like that for the rest of my life until yesterday. So maybe that helps explain why I want the Canids to pay for what they've done."
You stood there, slightly in shock, unable to form a suitable response. No wonder he was so worked up, he really wanted to make the Canids feel what he felt. Revenge could really be a powerful motivator.
A dark scowl appeared on his face, apparently showing that he really didn't want to talk about it, but he continued anyway. "If we're done, I'd like to go to bed now."
(-5 Relationship with Phiodel)
He turned and went in the same direction that Dorza and Dorze had earlier, toward some type of small cave. You just stood there for a moment. Somehow, the whole story made you completely forget your need to pee. You could just fall asleep right there and not even realize the problems it would cause thanks to how preoccupied your mind was.

D: find a place to pee, then attempt to come up with a way to have a peaceful meeting involving both the green cloak, and Phio. Perhaps through a screen or barrier, but, a way to still attempt to diffuse the attacks between the two species.

It's a decent idea, but very unlikely to work out in the middle of a forest with no real means of privacy on such a level. :)

C, stay awake so we can see her squirm around like mad? lol

B. I'm definitely feeling the deeper story here beyond it just being an omorashi tale, so I say she should pee now so she'll be better able to attend to much more important matters later.
