Awww, sorry to hear it was a DDoS. I've used Hostgator for years and love them very much, but have never had to go through them to deal with anything like that before.

That would be highly illegal, and extremely stupid. Often times, the DDoS is carried out by botnets of compromised PCs, so you'd be doing more damage than you would helping anyone. At the most, you'd fry an innocent person's PC with that.

Are they really innocent if they've been infected? It's more like destroying someone's gun after someone else stole it and used it in a robbery. Sure it was stolen property but still.

That's not even close to a fair comparison.

With how easy it is to get "drive-by malware" just by visiting a site in Windows, the existence of zero-day exploits, and the fact that most people don't know better, there's little that most people can do to defend themselves completely. Outside of dropping Windows completely and moving to OS X (which is slowly becoming more exploited), Linux or BSD, you'd have to be extremely vigilant or paranoid about what you do with your machine to not be infected. Even then, popular sites like Twitter, Facebook, and virtually anything with ads can be used to distribute malware with certain exploits.

As someone who uses Linux and does tech support for family and friends, I can honestly say that the ones who are infected are just as much victims as the ones being targeted by DDoS attacks. By doing damage to their PCs, you would be further victimizing them.

I'm not sure ignorance is a very good defense, when their ignorance is being exploited to injure others.

If their computers are a danger to the rest of us simply being connected to the internet, perhaps they shouldn't be connected to the internet.

Everyone's machines are a potential danger to others, including your own, so long as any sort of exploit exist. This includes servers (such as those that host FA), workstations, personal computers, phones, tablets, and other internet-connected devices. That doesn't mean we should take it all down.

Calm down and lose the "nuke and pave" mentality. It doesn't work, and it'll never work. I've been the target of DDoS attacks before, and even malicious attacks from various factions.It's not the fault of the machines, or of the people who don't know better. Computer security is one hell of a subject that still isn't completely understood, even by the experts. I'm studying to become a Linux sysadmin, and even I have trouble wrapping my head around a lot of the complex parts.

I'm not talking about potential dangers, I'm talking about actual dangers. People who don't "know better" are the problem. They don't get to throw up their hands and say "I'm too stupid to do anything, so I'll continue to let my computer be a part of it!"

Just saying, but to people complaining about the time it takes for a trouble ticket to be resolved, think about it for a moment. If there's an actual DDoS attack going on, chances are that the host is either working hard to resolve the problem, or the ticket system might be swamped to the point they're having problems with getting to all of them. When the last big DDoS attack hit HostGator, they were so swamped that no one could get in to ask what was going on.

So, just saying, but cut the hosting company some slack. DDoS attacks aren't always easy to deflect.

Addition: Talking with my mate, it seems they've been swamped for the past week. It's very likely they just haven't been able to get to you.

It sucks that they've been targeting you with this. I still very much enjoy CoC, and suddenly being hit with a password box over a blank screen was a bizarre surprise, to say the least!

Some jackass hacker is definitely still a possibility, but there's probably some silly little superficial reason once site was picked over another. I mean, a target has to be picked, and even the most random choice is still affected, superficially, by the motivations of the chooser. It can be assured that if it was a DDoS, then whoever did it didn't like the site. And if multiple furry sites were attacked by the same group or person, it's a safe assumption that it's someone who dislikes furs. 4chan just becomes an instant suspect because it is notoriously unruly and populated by a high concentration jackasses to start with.

I wouldnt really think its a single hacker, i think its again someone like PETA or other organasition lead by morons because otherwise why would anyone attack fenoxo? I mean i understood if there was a huge rivalry but you dont really some a good competetion against COC, so far COC is the best text based adventure that i had ever played. ddos search and destroyer dosn't spike the first computer it finds, it keeps looking until only one Ip address is detected and then it spikes or loops that single ip address depending what type of offensive drafts you have
