█ I have a few things to talk about today, so I'll just be rattling off the stuff that comes to mind. Hand is still bothering me and slowing my drawing down, but can't do much about that. Such is life.
█ I've decidedly learned a lesson about doing a comic RPG and how to include people in them. This is based on a bit of reflection done on how the previous comic panned out: I won't roll for people into the comic as an ongoing process, it simply causes too much whining and complaining.
This is completely my fault. To explain it in detail, the ant comic's roster was determined at the start; so all the "Aww I didn't get in" was done and over with at the very start. The only kind of complaints I had to deal with was people not ending up in situations they really, really wanted (but it's a comic based on an RPG system, no one gets what they want unless the GM/DM is a push-over) Anyways, with this plant comic the whining has been an ongoing thing because every time a set of people are caught I roll in new people; and of course people who didn't get in whine and complain about it, or feel miserable. So yeah, I wont do that again. If I do another comic RPG I'm just going to roll a random number for everyone between like 1 and 1000 and they'll be ordered into a list I pick in order if I need the bodies. In any case doing the plant comic so far has been less enjoyable for me because of how participation was done and I regret doing it the way I did. I just needed to vent that particular bit out.
█ My next comic project... I figure I'll talk about that while I'm here. To begin with, I'm unsure if I will even go through with this plan due to... technicalities. Part of me thinks even journaling about it is a bad idea due to getting people's hopes up.
Though I know people are interested and curious, so on so forth; so here it is regardless. The premise of the comic is simply a sex toy preparation series, with a format similar to that of a "choose your own adventure" book. The start of the comic has one of three (or more possibly) beginnings. Which is the ordering of the sex toy itself: The person doing the ordering might end up being that toy, that person's friend might end up that toy, or some random person ends up being the toy but is remade to look like the person doing the ordering (or made to resemble a friend) Lots of options overall. The sequence would move from there to the end result so on so forth.
First off I know many of you will certainly love this idea, but the problem for me ultimately comes down to participation. Due to the nature of this idea only a few people would be involved for any one run through of it, maybe only even one depending. As noted in the blurb earlier on, picking people is an unfun process. It's something I just can't properly wrap my head around without a lot of stress involved.
A raffle system I still feel is the most fair way to conduct it, but again it's hard to enjoy working sometimes when there's so much envy and disappointment that revolves around the selection process.
█ Lefty is also getting semi decent at drawing. I would have uploaded the scribbles accomplished by it but I'm holding off on that until the comic is done. I simply want to maintain the submission order so people can just browse through the comic using "Newer / Older" without me having to set up the navigation thing.
█ PS: If you live in Florida and are reading this, you're breaking the law! Computers and Smartphones are illegal!

Anyway, i'm sorry to hear this comic was less enjoyable for you... i'm enjoying it a lot myself, but maybe it's because i joined too ^^;
I have enjoyed watching it unfold and seeing the end results in the next day or whenever you upload it, if I couldn't stay for the full stream.
Let's hope the next one, whatever you decide to do...will be more fun for you and there will be less whining/complaining of how it is done.
And if anyone does, just use the 'ld gag and muzzle with padlocks...maybe a hood with it and mitted paws. XD
Why spend time, money, and effort on things that don't make people happy? The overall enjoyment of the product would be improved if you just set the theme and let people who get in decide their fate. If what they want doesn't fit with the theme, then ask them to wait out for one that does fit. There doesn't seem to actually be a purpose to the RPG system aside from deflecting people's characters into outcomes they do not desire.
I feel if one is going to sign up for such a comic it's important to embrace the concept. Complaining at length about the outcome of the dice is, I feel, completely missing the point.
But, to all the whiners, you're doing this comic FOR FREE!
The selection process WAS FREE!
You could've done this as a YCH and said tough.
So in that regard you will always have that bitching and moaning, but as for the comic...
It's fun :)
Everyone was rooting for Ota which was fun and to be honest, I love the dice rolls since it's so unpredictable.
No matter what you decide on, you'll still have a fan here :)
TL;DR version of my post- You're doing great, keep it up, GO TEAM VENTURE!
Still, about the sex toy thing, is it still going to involve latex or something, or is it going to be ANYTHING we can think of? Only asking because of a story I found on here on FA that REALLY caught my attention...
In regards to the hand, you likely are going to do what you're doing, stop using it for a while, along with using some ice. And adjust your posture, because it sounds to me like you hold your wrist at an angle which would cause it damage.
Since I'm going from the bottom up, I personally find this idea to be frought with danger. Why? Because you're setting yourself up for complaints, for whining. Even if you make it clear in the opening, people are going to find reason to bitch. It's up to you if you want to go through with it the way you want it to. But then again, people are a great deal more loose than I am when it comes to their OC's or ideas, so my warning is likely falling on deaf ears all around.
Which brings us to the next situation. Yes, the comic was free. So is the results of human nature. Someone is going to cry if they don't get in. Someone is going to cry if they don't get the scenario or result they wanted. Yes, I get it's an RPG-style system. Yes, I know it's random what could or could not happen. But it's still someone elses creation that whether they deny it or not, have a connection to. They want to see what they want to see, they want to happen what they want to happen.
It's why I never loan Lumen out to anyone save someone I trust with absolution (and those are VERY rare). I need to be in control of his destiny, and something like this wouldn't do (plus you and I at times mix like oil and vinegar and others, oil and water-someone get the dressing mix! ). Best way to avoid the frustrations? Charge a fee, or take donations. Make it a tier system. Those who want to pay higher into the tier, get more say in what happens to them no matter the dice roll, or they gain their own single 1D6 to try and influence their outcome if they didn't like the result.. Otherwise, you're going to be having to suck up and endure the whimperings of the masses. And these you can't humble with latex.
I think I'll go shower. I got called off of work today due to rain, and it's left me feeling kinda meh and sharp tongued.
as for the new idea i like it, but your right trying to select peole for it will be a pain. i am not really sure how you can work around it but i do look forward to seeing it come out.
So many people enjoy your style, your willingness to bring people's character into your stories, it would be a shame if a small set of people cause you so much grief that you need to stop.
And because I don't think I have posted before in your journals,
Thank you for sharing your talents with everyone.
Never been in one of your stories, no real desire to be, but I do love seeing other people succumbing to the evil die rolls.
Semper Fi
Carry on!
I'm excited by the proposed idea for the next series as well.
Charge money and see how many of the complainers would vanish into the woodwork.
Keep it up, Endium!
Endium, you're doing very good. Keep going.
And knowing me, im one of the more patient ones. And I wont certainly mind if I dont get my shot at the comic... you dont win them all so... :3
On a side note about winning them all... Ota won alot of rolls, but even he didn't win every one of them in the end. ^^;
I guess what I am trying to say is that you will always have people complaining no matter what you do or where you go. Don't let them bother you as much. I really look forward to your work each week and it would be a shame if you left (again if my memory serves me right) because people harass you over you own work.
Anyways, keep up the good work! I really love your gallery!
And making smartphones/computers illegal isn't the only crazy thing happening in Florida... I'd elaborate, but I think it's a can of worms best left shut.
Its too bad people make it stressful to pick. Everyone should be flexible and just enjoy the awesome comics
