**Muta Amputation Update--Bad News**
12 years ago
Upon taking Muta this afternoon to the vet who specializes in exotics, he found internal growths which had spread completely up the leg with the bad paw. This means an amputation would be her entire leg, not just the paw. He discussed options with me, with his advise being to do a bloodwork panel today (which I did, and I will get the results tomorrow morning).
If the results show that Muta can handle being under anesthesia, they will be doing a biopsy (they will punch out a section of the flesh on her leg) and sending it off to be analyzed.
This will tell us if these growths are a malignant cancer or something else, and the vet will then determine the hardest part: whether Muta would have a better quality of life with her entire leg amputated, or if it would be best to put her to sleep. It is not the same for a ferret, as it is for a cat or dog, to have a leg amputation, which is what makes it so tricky. All of their weight is put on the back legs, and so if she does not adapt well, her side might always drag and cause infection. The healing process would also be an extremely long and trying time, because ferrets are notorious for ripping away sutures, bandages, slipping out of cones, etc, which can be fatal in the end from bleeding out or infection.
I'm going to do absolutely everything I can for my little girl. It simply breaks my heart to think of putting her to sleep. She has so much life left in her! The moment I brought her home from the vet today she greeted the other 2 ferrets by grooming them and trying to play (she was very weak from getting so much blood drawn).
And now the fun part. The total cost for the biopsy (NOT including the amputation) is $712.67. The amputation will be another $900-$1100. The blood work today cost $157.60.
Luckily I have been approved for Care Credit, a credit card that is specifically for medical procedures for humans and pets, which will allow me to make monthly payments for the bill. However, the final bill cannot go over $2100, and I have to pay it off in full within 6-12 months (they will tell me according to how much the final costs are), so the monthly payments will likely be very high.
Here is a photo of the biopsy estimate, just so there is photo proof: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u.....63851636_0.jpg
I just want to thank all of you who have commissioned me in order to help Muta; the money you paid for your commissions are helping so much in paying for this bill. And thank you to all that have helped spread the word! This community of fuzzies never ceases to amaze me ;w;
I am still open for commissions for this cause, and any signal boosting is still very much appreciated.
Much love to you guys <3

...Also, the fact that you care so much for her makes me so happy. Personally, ferrets hold a special place in my heart because my first pet was Marley, a ferret my mom got my dad for his birthday. It was back in the day when they were still illegal and I remember never ever seeing one and then having one as a pet. He was the best little guy I've ever had, he slept in my sock drawer and always wanted attention. ;u; Long story short, my father took him after my parents split and was very irresponsible with him and it made me *so* upset. As I've encountered ferret owners later on in life I've noticed that a few (not all, obvs<3) of them don't seem to understand how to read them and treat them as if they're an expendable novelty. I know its causing you a lit of stress right now, but everything that you are doing and all you're willing to give for Muta makes it so obvious what a wonderful, sympathetic, and giving individual you are.
Also good on you for getting the Care Credit, I regret not getting some sort of pet insurance for my dog when he got cancer a few years ago. His biopsy alone was $1,300. After about 3k in medical bills we found out it was very malicious lymphatic cancer that was already in his lungs, and he had to be put down. Not saying that the money was wasted, but I wonder how much easier it would have been if I had just gotten him insurance like I'd mulled over so many time before. The final kick - it cost me $400 just to cremate him!
Best of luck to you and Muta.
