All NSFW Tumblr blogs are being banned. Just FYI.

Look at this little gem that people have found:
http://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/nsfw
Short version: Yahoo is trying to remove all the porn from Tumblr, and is punishing all the artists who even lean slightly in that direction.
Long version: Yahoo has basically made it so that any adult material or even mildly suggestive or "NSFW" material, will NOT show up in any tag searches of any sort.
...Which basically means that absolutely NOBODY will do a search, find your work, and decide to +follow you. That means NO NEW FANS. It also means that Tumblr is officially NOT a place to post if you want to gain an audience.
Also, if your blog is listed as NSFW or Adult, none of your SAFE posts will show up either.
So basically, if you have ONE porny piece in your entire blog, which let's say, has 5000 G-rated posts...
Then all 5000 of your posts will be banned from the search feature, forever, with no option to change your blog to a safe one, even after you remove the offending post.
This isn't just throwing out the baby with the bathwater. This is bulldozing the entire HOUSE with the baby still in it, because there is dirty water in the tub.
Fuck you, Yahoo.

But I'm not rich. I'm just an otter. :(
Me: Google search - "pronz site:www.tumblr.com"
Yahoo: ... Fuck.
I only look @ Tumblr blogs for that stuffs!
So, when are they hitting the nuke button, looks like I'll have to hurry!
(What sux even more for some, I know at least 1 fur who had to move their furry art there after being permabaned over something stupid... now where's she gonna go?)
First of all, the key words in that NSFW document are "Safe Mode." Specifically, NSFW and Adult tagged posts will not show up for followers and other users while browsing in Safe Mode. But in what one might call "Unsafe Mode" (IE, the default browsing for Tumblr, especially before these changes), those posts would still show up. Additionally, some of these changes are designed to minimize the amount of NSFW or adult material that appears when searching for Tumblr stuff via outside search engines.
I think part of the confusion on this stems from the blog of Slugbox, where people thought that Slugbox was being censored due to the NSFW and adult material of his blogs. What I found a bit interesting is that they tried to search for Slugbox's blog names like they were tags - they found the blogs, but no posts. However, this is because, as far as I'm aware, Slugbox doesn't actually use his blog name as a tag in his posts - ergo, no posts would show up when searching for said tags because said tags have never actually been used. (Hmmm, that sounds a bit tautological...)
That being said, I think some caution is in order, and perhaps a bit of thought - perhaps a calm and intelligent letter (or letters) to Tumblr staff asking them if these fears or rumors have any basis in truth. And even if they are false, best to keep a weather eye out - just because this may turn out to be false doesn't mean that future ones will be also.
Now go to the Krystal, Gardevoir, and Renamon tags and ask yourself "why is there so little porn here?" You will see some porn, but practically nothing, compared to what you might previously have found.
Whelp.
Still, that sounds kinda under-handed...
And what I mean in English is plainly this: "FUCK Yahoo"
That said, it's kind of bullshit, and I feel like if they're so concerned about protecting people from this kind of stuff then they should just, I dunno, provide the optional "This post is NSFW" button when you choose to post something. It creates an issue, in that so so many previous posts will need to be labeled as such, but it'd make a whole lot more sense.
read the source
oh my god
Who are you?
( I love how everyone commented on this due to the title and not due to the content nor the 'source'. Ffffffffurries. )
I do wish they would let people change flags from NSFW to the new Adult flag, though.
The link you give us says otherwise. It specifies "Safe Mode", which implies my earlier reply to myself is correct and browsing outside of safemode will still turn up NSFW stuff.
Long story short, Lapinbeau, why are you panicking?
*has finger on the button*
Holy damn, same thing happened to iMeem when MySpace bought them, turned into crap and all the music I had faved (including some really rare recordings) were gone! We were told we could get them back eventually, but the service ended and I never even got an email about it.
All I know from this is that tumblr has flagged blogs as NSFW or Adult, which is kinda weird because you can label your blog as either-or on your own accord. If you've been flagged, your blog will not show up in search engines, and people who are not logged in to tumblr will not be able to view your content. Tumblr just totally defeated the purpose of Safe Mode though, which is even more weird.
Caaaaaalled it
They're cleaning up the site of porn so they can start whoring it out with ads
At least that's how it looks to me. You're a great guy, and it seems weird when you get upset about things. Just doesn't fit the Beau I know.
That way you can get some exposure when you're not doodling sexy stuff. Maybe?
I can't wait 'til the last vestiges of puritanical thinking finally die off for good. Pretty ironic how it totally fucks with people's minds and decision-making.
That's about the only silver lining I can see.
I still wish that people would just "not look at it" if they don't want to see it. HEY, I DON'T WANNA NOT SEE PORN!! WHERE'S MY RIGHTS BEING RECOGNIZED, aside from all around me? :P

As I speculated earlier, they were just working on creating a safe mode. Google promotion of porn tumblrs is even back after some code tweaking.
