Nothing wrong with being encouraging
“And it is still true, no matter how old you are -- when you go out into the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.”
I say this from time to time because I think its important and I know some artists disagree with me for pandering to peoples feelings but...
back in 2003 thats when I stopped drawing for 8 years I used to be on a place called elfwood heres my old profile....dont laugh okay
http://www.elfwood.com/~garioch
My parents found a sketchbook with half those pics in it and basically laughed me out of the house. I didnt pick up a pencil afterwards for the longest of times. I felt ashamed and dumb and really quite hurt. I know some people would have been determined to prove them wrong, but I wasnt one of those types of people, my parents opinions mattered to me and my heart felt crushed that they found my artwork laughable.
So when people send me pics that don't exactly look top notch theres always something positive that I find to say about the artwork I then give them some tips on where they might want to try to improve. Because encouragement is important. There are people on this site that I remember seeing upload their first submission which wasnt exactly perfect to say the least (myslef included if youve seen the beginning page of my gallery you'll know what im talking about), but they had worked hard on their art and was proud of what they'd done and well....I see people leaving horrible comments all the time and I think...if you go to all that effort to write something mean and upset someone then why cant you spend that effort being nice? Encouraging people to get better and practice and not to give up...I think is really important and not exactly difficult.
I know some people are stronger because they've done it all for themselves and dont need that sort of encouragement but everyone is different.
I cant remember what made me pick up a pencil again. Theres probably different dimensional sams who never picked up a pen again. That kinda makes me sad for that dimensional sam, equally theres probably a dimensional sam whose parents didnt laugh at her. wonder what shes doing now. LOL.
Anyway TLDR answer is theres nothing wrong with excouraging people and your encouragement might give them the strength to become great one day.

For what it's worth, I think your Garioch arts are pretty nice...
That was a very great start at art.
I am glad you did decide to draw again when you did, love seeing your art. ^_^
I didn't draw for just as long as you, then one day boom, decided to draw, people encouraged me and now look i'm better then I was :|
Honestly, if it wasn't for an online friend I made through our mutual love of Yoshi, I may have never tried to honestly write much at all. I get told TONS of times that "...You are a good writer." However, there is a differerance between being told that and having those same people actually read and comment on what you spent so much time and effort on.
I, too, try my best to encourage new artists as I find them. It really wasn't until I came here that I truly felt like my work was genuinely appreciated. I nearly quit writing until I actually got on and found out people would actually read what I write as oppposed to just saying, "You're a good writer." I know some folks don't do well with leaving comments, but it is always nice to know what makes you good as opposed to being simply told "You're good."
Let us both work towards encouraging others through the arts. For me, I grew both in talent and self-esteem thanks to FA and I know others can, too. With the right guides, friends, and attitude, you really can achieve a lot through the arts.
The best we can do is block the people that try to cause us harm and learn to ignore the disrespectful/hateful comments. I know how difficult it is too, I'm a content creator myself, not with art, but with videos. The really mean comments always stick out and even after years of dealing with it, they can still hurt.
Surround yourself with good friends and ignore the haters. The only advice I can give.
I'm sorry with what happened with your parents as well, that's unbelievably disheartening.
if so you have come far in such a short time
also even tho thay are not what as good as what you do today you were still realy good
pics are part of your pre-toddler acceptance I take . ^^ like those early fur pics ^^
I just looked through your elfwood gallery. The sunset picture you drew with the colored pencils is my favorite. I like the waiting version too. It's always nice to see people's older art. Thanks for sharing them with us. :)
Maybe the dimensional Sam who didn't pick up a pencil again did more music instead, or more writing. I don't think the world would have been worse, just different. *hugs*
But anyway, I agree with you that it costs nothing to be supportive and it can be so very rewarding. Maybe some people "aren't very good" at the stage in their development that they're in right now, but who can say how they'll develop in the future? Not you, not me, not anybody, probably not even the greatest expert. There might be those who believe themselves to be experts and think they can look at someone's art today and predict whether they'll be "any good" in the future, but I think you can tell what I think of them. Predicting the weather is probably more certain. The only guarantee is that, if they keep trying, they will develop. If they don't, they won't, and that would be a tragedy.
