I can't seem to stop drawing. Whatever it's commissions, art trade, art for myself, art for others or my comic, I can't stop. Val says that I'm a workaholic - I have the compulsion to work on or create something. With my never-ending need to create something, it's even harder. I must do something productive or creative whenever I have any down time. I have video games, but I get inspired to draw while playing. The more I draw, the more tired I get. The more tired I am, the more I think my artwork is crap... It's very hard to be a creative and imaginative person 24/7 and not being able to stop...
Fuck.
Fuck.
But I can assure you, your art is nowhere near being crap; it is awesome work! I think I've favourited most everything you've ever posted. XD
I hope you can find a balance and enjoy all your time!
I am soo damn jealous of your rush of inspiration though, I need something like that myself right about now D:
the point is, every once in a while (like at least once a week...) take a 24 hour rest where you go out and do something different, where you promise yourself, that you will temporarily put those thoughts aside for just one day, and you will spend that day doing something relaxing... whether that be drinking, partying, fucking, having dinner at friends places, visiting family and friends. Truth be told, the list goes on and on.
if we the furry community have to, we will "donate" to give you a day off... >:D whatever it takes dude, we cant have you frying yourself out like this ok?
Or at least this is the schedule I've been trying to adapt to. I don't always succeed. Sometimes the discipline just goes out the window, sometimes I need a day off, and many times people think that because I'm working from home/because I'm freelancing, I can just take trivial (not major decisions, not life-threatening, not problem-solving) phone calls whenever, and I can step away whenever and devote an entire day to something.
I can definitely understand the workaholic tendencies - right now, especially due to my situation, if I'm not sleeping, I'm working. I feel like I need to be, or I'm wasting time. I wish I didn't have to sleep so I could get an extra 8 hours to work, haha. I'm hoping that adopting this schedule will control those tendencies to a point that at least if I'm working on art in my downtime, it's because I want/i] to, not because I feel I [i]have to.
There's been studies that prove that having a smaller window of time to complete a task in my makes you more efficient, so I'm hoping that with those time-slots (that can be pared down even further to 2 hours on a specific image) in place, I'll get high-quality work consistently and quickly. Also, taking breaks helps, even if it feels like I don't need to; stepping away from the computer even if it's just to run out and eat super-cheap fast food somewhere has me coming back refreshed and hyper-focused, and I do better work.
I know this was a bit of a long read, but maybe adopting some of these ideas could help you deal with the problem you're facing. I hope you find a solution either way. :)
I'll have to make some time to go through your recent submissions this week, since my current count up top is something like, 22,000, haha.
But seriously, if it's something that's consumed about 80% of your week, you might need some time to stop and chill, and not be so eager to get back work. Mostly if it's getting to a point where it feels as though your art is dropping in quality.
Unfortunately, I'm not at a point where i feel comfortable (monetarily) commissioning you, simply due to my apartment and need for other things at the moment.
However, maybe you could challenge yourself with my wing-it idea...a person basically gives you a subject (if they even choose to do so), and you create a scene or an art piece based off of only 3 words they say for input.
Commissions do offer good challenges since most of them are going outside what I already know from time to time.
