Art Tip....Anatomy with Perspective.
My Politics and Social views are ideas that I believe work. If something does not work I call it out.
Well at 43 I still do alot of study because frankly I didn't study enough when i was younger. Let me please impart to my fellow doodlers the importance of studying something as simplistic as perspective.
Now perhaps you stared at some huge perspective shot of Spiderman swinging down a city street with huge sky scrappers looming above while tiny cars move below. Don't be fooled into thinking this is beyond you. It is simply new angles that your mind hasn't adjusted to.
-EXAMPLE-
Now lets say you are drawing the human hand. You draw it flat on the palm side say fifty times, now you draw the back of the hand. You begin to see similarities and your mind adjusts to the flip you have just made. Next you draw the hand with perspective with the ends of the fingers facing towards the viewer and your mind now reels in the sheer overwhelming project in front of you as you cannot cope with what you have to draw.
You have drawn this hand over hundred times why is this suddenly a difficulty?
Its because the angles are new and different and you need time to adjust. let me repeat that...TIME!
In order to learn you need to give yourself the value of patience even when life is hectic. The learning process should be continuous and thoughtful. Not sporadic and emotional.
Study simple shapes with perspective. Draw the horizon line and perspective lines and trust that with time and practice your mind will adjust.
Remember growth as a artist may require growth in your mind.
That's old enough to be my daddy!
(hidden comment was mine...I think the FA guys should add a function so a user can edit or just delete their own comments)
Not that I'm improving that much anyway, but that's because I'm stupid and lazy and completely unable to learn to draw. At least that's what my art teacher in school told me. Then again she was the opinion all males are lazy and stupid and unable to learn art, and so she never gave any male students a good grade on principle...
Speaking of her, I was fifteen when she taught be about negative form. I was 30 when it finally dawned upon me how important it is to know.
Talk about time.
Also alot of artists are emotional which creates art teachers that are assholes.
Sometimes you need to adjust your mind to draw anatomy shapes comparing to each other. This was a problem with me.
