Classic is a word I would use to describe this game in a single word. No voice acting, lots of dialog choices, explorative gameplay with a linear story, and overall a nice bag if fun.
It has no where near the level if customization as the pen and paper game but what's there is fun to mess around with. Gear wise I was a smidge sad to see you pretty much can equip three weapons but only your armor is for your whole body in the sense of wearing gear, ie the high armor gear MUST be worn with a gas mask. Also for some reason the game only uses auto saves. In other words if you can't complete the mission your on and say you die/have to leave/dog pulled the cord out you have to start from the last loading screen.
Overall it's a fun game, but I think much like skyrim it will get better with age due to the belt in editor and mods that are sure to come.
If you want a solid character rpg that is played closest to classic fallout games meets the turn based combat envisioned in the latest xcom game then shadowrun returns is a good buy. If you enjoy creating things and the thought of self made dialog trees and map triggers excites you, it is also a good buy.

I actually enjoyed the SNES version of Shadowrun. Was a fun lil' game (Though I had to play it on emulator. Genesis did what Ninten-... uh... didn't. I never owned a SNES. Still, the game looks fun :3
