>B: Give the Glowstalk Essence to Mora
It doesn't take more than a couple of seconds for you to decide to pay another visit to the smartest elder you know. Apparently, your leadership skills have gotten better without you noticing, as your Hunter friends seem to have no trouble following without you saying a word. Maybe they're just used to it by now? As the four of you walk through the sandy streets, you notice that many of the civillians passing you are much more fearful- hurrying to do whatever they are doing before going indoors, or leaving a paw on their personal weapons at all times. That's understandable, however, as the Council had been attacked only yesterday, and the attack left nearly half of the defending Hunters dead or severely wounded. It made sense for people to be afraid after something like that.
After a bit of walking, you finally end up in front of Mora's hut. Without hesitating, you step through the grassy entrance and quickly find the old bobcat working to make sure that the wounded Hunters who had actually survived the night stay alive a little longer. It couldn't be easy being the only one responsible for bringing others back from the brink. As usual, she notices as you enter but doesn't let the disturbance distract her from her work, even as your three friends enter behind you. She gives her usual greeting, although you can hear the weariness of hard work in her voice.
"Good morning, Anamaki and Phiodel. The tigers, I am quite happy to say, I have never met."
The twins were both a little irritated by the comment, Dorza being the first to respond.
"And what's that supposed to mean?"
Mora gave a slight chuckle before answering.
"Why it simply means that you have been in good health for the better part of your life. We certainly would have met if you've ever needed healing, meaning that either you've never been sick or injured, or you've ignored my services to the tribe."
Both twins looked at each other with what you can only imagine is an expression of mixed pride and guilt. You almost feel like asking them what they are thinking, but decide against it for now. You came to ask about the strange Glowstalk goo that you extracted last night. You finally speak up.
"Mora, could you tell me anything about this stuff?"
You pull out the flask filled with the still-glowing plant secretions, prompting Mora to pause her work for only a moment, long enough to get a good look at what you were presenting to her. As soon as that moment was up, she went straight back to work, changing bandages and applying all forms of medicines to the injuries of her many patients.
"I'm afraid that I've never seen anything like that before. If I had time, I would take a closer look for you, but these Hunters require my constant care until they become stable again. I'm sorry, Ana, but I don't believe that I can help you this time."
You nod, understanding that the healer is too busy healing to worry about some plant goo right now, and you wish your older friend farewell before turning toward the door. You turn just a bit too fast, however, and your outstretched paw slams into a support that was holding up a shelf of various medicines, and the Glowstalk Essence flask flies out of your grip.
(Attention Penalty: You drop the flask!)
You try to catch everything all at once in the split second it takes for things to hit the ground, but ultimately fail. All the flasks, pots and containers hit the floor with a crash. You freeze as your brain catches up to what you just did, a glowing mess of ooze, mixed with leaves and berries lying at your feet. You try to look at Mora and apologize, knowing that she might be upset, but something very strange happens before you get the chance- the Glowstalk Essence begins glowing even brighter and literally absorbs the surrounding materials. The medicinal leaves, salves and other ingredients almost instantly dissolve in the goo, which turns green and- much to everybody's surprise- releases a strong smoke which explodes outwards and fills the hut in an instant.
The smoke dissipates quickly, leaving a room full of coughing, confused Felinids. Wait, there's more coughing than just five individuals could make, it was like the noise of a crowd. Looking around, you could see the mortally wounded Hunters suddenly regaining consciousness in reaction to the smoke, although they were all unconscious just a minute ago. Soon, they're all talking and asking to know what was going on, as if they were never even hurt. Mora has a look of complete bewilderment on her face, and you were glad that your completely accidental stumble had some good effect- although you just lost the result of an hours-long trip into Canid territory. The Glowstalk Essence was entirely used up.
(Attention Bonus: You find a good use for Glowstalk Essence)
(-1 Glowstalk Essence)
"That is amazing. I've never seen anything like this, and I thought I had seen everything..."
You smile inwardly, though now it would be necessary to find another way of getting more Glowstalk. Looking down at the mess on the floor, no longer glowing with the energy that could revive nearly a dozen severely wounded Hunters, you spot a tiny black spot. You reach down and grab at it, finding something that looked like a darker version of a plant seed. Maybe it would grow a Glowstalk if you tried to plant it? Keeping the possibility open, you take it and put it in your pouch. With that done, you turn to leave, only to be stopped by a highly thankful Mora.
(+1 Glowstalk Seed)
"Thank you Anamaki, I don't know what it is you brought with you, but all of these people could have died without it. We have already lost enough Hunters that the village may be at risk, so we need all the help we can get."
"What do you mean we're at risk?" Your question was quick and serious.
"We have so few Hunters now, and such a large village, that the Wenta can no longer fully protect themselves. There was a time not so long ago that nature was still a threat, and now that the Canids have killed so many of our defenders, nature is a threat once again."
You don't need another reminder of the Yaggan attacks, Phio had done a fine job of that with his stories. Being the most ferocious predators in the jungle, they would have an easy time getting into the village and harassing the Wenta, especially if the Burrowers came first. You didn't need to look at the lion to know what he was thinking, it would be a nightmare if he had to see the dragon-like creatures roaming the streets. Finally, you thank Mora for the advice and step back out into the sun-soaked streets. After all of that, you were feeling a bit thirsty- the smoke had left a bad taste in your mouth.
