Stand Up And Make A Difference

Hey, I don't use this space for political purposes much (at all), but you might've heard something about this amendment people are gonna vote on here in California that would eliminate the right of same-sex couples to get married. The people in favor of passing it--the bad guys, the haters--have been flooding us with ads and are starting to see some traction in the polls.
We could use a little help.
Even if you don't live in California, you can spread the word, make some donations. Go to noonprop8.com and see what you can do. Post the URL in your own journal, let everyone know about it. Toss some money in if you can. And if you do live in California, for the love of God, register to vote and show up on Election Day.
It's common these days to feel that we can't make a difference, that the issues we're voting on are big and complicated and don't matter much one way or the other. We survived eight years under Bush (though we may be staggering to the finish), we'll survive whatever comes next. Well, this is an issue that is just about 50-50 here. Support has been seesawing back and forth since the prop became official. You CAN make a difference. And it's a difference that has a specific and positive impact, not just for couples in California, but as an example for the whole country.
Plus, if Prop 8 is defeated, I promise you all a very touching and tender and hot story about a gay couple getting married. :)

(For the record, I agree with ya... in our lifetimes we will see people saying "what the heck was the big deal over same-sex marriage and why were people so frickin' uptight over it?")

how would that have changed everything>?>
Just spreading the word, telling people about it and encouraging them to do the same, that's a concrete thing you can do. If you go to the website, they have a bunch of things you can do that don't cost money, though of course, they do want money...
As for money, sadly I don't think I can really help from here with all the local limitations on international transfers, but now that I think of it, I might know someone who can.
I'll also see the site to see if I can do other things from here. Meanwhile, my MSN personal message has been displaying the link since yesterday, which got me a few local contacts asking, but they didn't seem that interested once they saw what it was about.

We've been a couple for ten years and I'll be damned if I'll let a simple majority vote invalidate our legal commitment.
I've managed to make another protest image http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1674921/
I really wish I had more time and skill to make these actually look good.
