Everybody knows that nothing good comes out of modern television or film, this includes portrayals of either gender, as it reflect society's "norms". The cutoff point was the late 1990s.

I hate women in horror movies. Especially when they ask "Is anyone there?" or "Hello?!" and expect to get an answer.

I feel that there are quite a few exceptions to this rule. Just a few examples I can think of are Ripley from Alien, the women in Firefly, and the surviving woman in Cabin in the Woods (won't give the name because of spoilers).

Oh god. How could I forget my favorite female character. I absolutely love Ripley!

Part of the reason is that many times women are written by men, and written to be women rather then written to be people. Similar to how other non-white middle-aged males tend to get written.

Society's standards on women cause this to be the way they act and look on TV and movies, shaming the real women in real life who act nothing even remotely close to it.
