Movie Recommendation of the Week

Funny Games
It's a nice day out. A pleasant family (Dad, Mom, and son make three) is on vacation at their lakeside house. Sailboat's getting set up at the dock, dog is playing around, a meal is being prepared... all is well.
Then some very polite, very well dressed young men from next door come over to borrow some eggs.
Right about there things start to go downhill, and soon they have the finally tied up and playing some sick games to try and stay alive.
This is a movie that doesn't try to entertain you. Rather, it tries to mess with you, defying horror convictions and giving you a sick sense in the pit of your gut. It almost makes you ashamed for watching (after all, turn off the movie and the family is safe and sound, as the two intruders point out at one point). It sets things up, makes you think (and even hope) you know what's going to happen, and then gleefully (and occasionally blatantly, as the movie breaks the fourth wall from time to time) does something else.
It's a very twisted film, and one that can be (for lack of a better term) a bit of a mindfuck. Should be followed with something that makes you feel good after you watch it.
For the sake of simplicity, I'm recommending the US version of this film. This was originally a German film (back in 1997 I believe), and that director remade it for US audiences. It's a shot-for-shot remake, so both versions are essentially identical beyond the actors and language.
