I don't really expect artists to read all the details in my first Journal but my fifth Journal has a nice short summary.
Note: Remember that wings take a lot of room so be sure to think about the pose and layout before starting to draw a traditional piece.

Ideas for drawings of Auric:
This long list of pose/drawing ideas provides lots of choices for artists who'd prefer artistic freedom or would like to pick something they'd like to draw, so I can just provide a link to this list and say "pick something you'd like to do". The ideas intentionally vary in the amount of detail, some are well developed and specified and others are little more than a few key words. The numbers are just for short term reference, I re-order and re-number them periodically. I'm trying to keep this section up to date (updated 9/29/16).
Key:
* = an artwork exists or is in progress, though another interpretation would be fine.
bold on a number means I'm very interested in this idea
strikethrough or gray text means I have enough art of that idea, although another interpretation would be ok if it is interesting to the artist
underline on a name is only to make it easier to read
Artistic Freedom:
Notes: Be sure to keep it clean (SFW), non-sexual, non-romantic, and non-violent. Auric should not be expressing strong or exaggerated emotions, particularly negative emotions. I'm always a bit nervous about full artistic freedom, Auric doesn't fit many of the stereotypes of the furry community and I'm more concerned that he be shown in character than I am about getting the length of his mane or color of his fur just right. Reading the ideas below will give some insight into what would be appropriate.

D15) Doorway, going in or out: view (full body), pose: standing plantigrade or semi-plantigrade, 4 or 5 toes with short claws, no tail or wings. This sketch is to explore a more human-like plantigrade look (like a classical Anubis but fully furred, with colors and head that are more realistic for a golden jackal, though his colors won’t be apparent in a sketch). He could be near the outline of a doorway or open portal and holding a robe or cloak like he is taking it off when coming in or getting ready to put it on to go out (it shouldn’t look like a strip tease, which would be out of character). A variation of this involving a very simple background would be to show it raining outside. Ideally, I’d like this sketch to show a few simple items like a scroll case, pouch and/or dagger at his waist.

Magic/Spellcasting/Chi:
Notes: 'Spellcasting' could be anything from hand gestures (like http://www.furaffinity.net/full/13147267/ ), to the stereotypical "ball of light" over an open hand (like http://www.furaffinity.net/full/13489188/ ) to impressive visual effects (e.g. an aura of flames). It doesn't need to be anything too flashy since he tends toward utilitarian, informational, transport, illusion and support magic rather than flashy destructive magic. Making hand gestures or perhaps tracing a glowing rune in the air would probably be appropriate. In general, Auric's magic tends to be subtle and low key so it is fine if the visible effect is vague. When he does do 'flashy' magic, it is usually light, air, or fire based (e.g. a beam of light, a gust of wind, or dancing balls of fire).

In an Egyptian deities context, Auric would probably be a messenger from a foreign deity or a servant or priest of one of the deities of the sun, light, or learning/knowledge (e.g. Ra or Seshat).

U2) Soft Styles: Auric actually prefers 'soft style' martial arts (grappling, joint locks, throws, pressure points, etc.; e.g. Aikido, Judo, Ju-Jitsu) as opposed to 'hard style' martial arts (striking with hands, feet, elbows, knees, etc.; e.g. Karate, Taekwondo) but for artwork it is difficult to show the 'soft style' without an opponent.

Kicks:
Notes: For an artist comfortable with it, I'd be happy to have a martial arts kick pose, but kick poses are rather specialized so it is helpful to both understand how they work and have good skill with anatomy. I tried to put some good references below, because kicking poses can be difficult and I actually know something about the subject which makes me picky about details like... where the point of contact will be, how the body and joints are lined up to deliver force and/or speed in the direction of the kick through to the point of contact, where the character's balance is, how the upper body and arms are positioned, how the head is positioned and where the character is looking. Are you intimidated yet? Don't worry too much, we'll find some good references and start with a very basic pose sketch before filling in details. Note that human martial arts kicks are designed for plantigrade feet and may need to be adapted for digitigrade feet, in particular any plantigrade kick that normally hits with the heel (foot and toes pulled back) like the side kick, back kick, hook kick and spin kick probably needs to be modified for digitigrade to hit with the bottom of the paw ('foot' extended but toes pulled back) instead. Pose trivia notes, his hands should both be above waist level and in the direction he is kicking (having the back arm/hand down is bad style because it leaves your head unprotected), for most kicks except the front kick, axe kick and crescent kick, the foot on the ground should have the toes pointed to the side or directly away from the target.

Mood/Theme: meditative/zen/calm/peaceful
Pose: meditating in full lotus position (both feet upwards), half lotus position (one foot upwards), or simply cross legged, with feet in either plantigrade or digitigrade configuration - whichever is the easiest or most fun to draw. He can be sitting on something (table, cushion, rock, or cloud) or simply levitating in mid-air without visible support with his hybrid furry/feather tail hanging straight down. The hardest part of drawing a furry in the 'full lotus' or 'half lotus' pose is trying to adapt it to furry legs, you can use plantigrade or digitgrade feet and adjust the length of the 'foot' between the ankle and paw to try to get it to look good.

This long list of pose/drawing ideas provides lots of choices for artists who'd prefer artistic freedom or would like to pick something they'd like to draw, so I can just provide a link to this list and say "pick something you'd like to do". The ideas intentionally vary in the amount of detail, some are well developed and specified and others are little more than a few key words. The numbers are just for short term reference, I re-order and re-number them periodically. I'm trying to keep this section up to date (updated 9/29/16).

I am avoiding the stereotypical Eye of Horus eye markings to help avoid Auric from being confused for Anubis or Duamutef. In a mortal context, Auric would probably be a foreign dignitary who has adopted local style. In an Egyptian deities context, Auric would probably be a messenger from a foreign deity or a servant or priest of one of the deities of the sun, light, or learning/knowledge (e.g. Ra or Seshat).

U2) Soft Styles: Auric actually prefers 'soft style' martial arts (grappling, joint locks, throws, pressure points, etc.; e.g. Aikido, Judo, Ju-Jitsu) as opposed to 'hard style' martial arts (striking with hands, feet, elbows, knees, etc.; e.g. Karate, Taekwondo) but for artwork it is difficult to show the 'soft style' without an opponent.

Kicks:
Notes: For an artist comfortable with it, I'd be happy to have a martial arts kick pose, but kick poses are rather specialized so it is helpful to both understand how they work and have good skill with anatomy. I tried to put some good references below, because kicking poses can be difficult and I actually know something about the subject which makes me picky about details like... where the point of contact will be, how the body and joints are lined up to deliver force and/or speed in the direction of the kick through to the point of contact, where the character's balance is, how the upper body and arms are positioned, how the head is positioned and where the character is looking. Are you intimidated yet? Don't worry too much, we'll find some good references and start with a very basic pose sketch before filling in details. Note that human martial arts kicks are designed for plantigrade feet and may need to be adapted for digitigrade feet, in particular any plantigrade kick that normally hits with the heel (foot and toes pulled back) like the side kick, back kick, hook kick and spin kick probably needs to be modified for digitigrade to hit with the bottom of the paw ('foot' extended but toes pulled back) instead. Pose trivia notes, his hands should both be above waist level and in the direction he is kicking (having the back arm/hand down is bad style because it leaves your head unprotected), for most kicks except the front kick, axe kick and crescent kick, the foot on the ground should have the toes pointed to the side or directly away from the target.

Mood/Theme: meditative/zen/calm/peaceful
Pose: meditating in full lotus position (both feet upwards), half lotus position (one foot upwards), or simply cross legged, with feet in either plantigrade or digitigrade configuration - whichever is the easiest or most fun to draw. He can be sitting on something (table, cushion, rock, or cloud) or simply levitating in mid-air without visible support with his hybrid furry/feather tail hanging straight down. The hardest part of drawing a furry in the 'full lotus' or 'half lotus' pose is trying to adapt it to furry legs, you can use plantigrade or digitgrade feet and adjust the length of the 'foot' between the ankle and paw to try to get it to look good.

I3) Book: Auric is often pictured with a book, it would be nice to have one or more particular designs for books (size, construction, cover, colors, etc.) so that details don't need to be worked out on the fly while doing a drawing that involves a book. Ideally the cover would have both a detailed close up view and a typical tiny view and the detail design would have enough thought that it would become something simple but easily identifiable when seen in a tiny view.
