Are People afraid to comment on things?
I've always wondered this, especially when I see views into the tens of thousands and generally less than 100 comments.
For instance, on Applequest, only about 1 in every 250 people left a comment.
Yet when I asked for a survey, I got responses into the thousands over a week or so.
From this, I can only assume that people are shy about commenting publicly or sending me a direct email but don't mind giving anonymous group feedback.
Feedback is important to me, I try to read all of the comments/emails/notes and reply to most of them, just so you know.

:p
Me personally, I forget to comment most times, can't find the words, or some one has already said what I would have.
well. that makes sense I guess. It does help to know -why- you liked something (or why you hated it) so I can focus on the aspects people like the most (and avoid the ones people dislike).
The survey helped phenomenally with that kind of feedback.
though i am happy your looking for feedback, i have met so many artists who don't want anyone to ever say anything bad about their art! and i don't mean "oh it's crap!" i mean "a lovely picture but i noticed she looks like she is missing a wing? you might have just forgotten but i thought i would let you know!" and i was screamed at and blocked for saying it... lol.
this is also why many people don't give reviews/criticism is because many artists are like the one i said above, so people fear they will anger their favourte artists.
still now that i know this i promise to give longer reviews
its hard (for me anyways) to except criticism from someone who doesn't do art themselves.
In my case, I find it a waste of time. Artists round these parts are touchy and prone to meltdowns in you criticize their BEAUTIFUL WORK OF ART! So if they don't ask, I don't tell. It's not my problem if they don't want to improve. And as someone stated before, unless you actually ARE providing feedback, there's little important to say. There's only so many times you can post, "Omg, this hot."
There's definitely a degree of critique you can provide if you look at it as entertainment, not art. (My work is not "art")
Sure as hell aren't plots to critique, unless you're talking about something like the Antimage RPG, (which I thought was fucking hilarious.)
in my experience i personally keep my postings to the minimum these days because every post can attract backlash from abusive users and artists alike. i've witnessed several times now that fanboys and artists take their frustration out on their own followers for whatever reason and in rare cases it got pretty hot.
so yeah in a way people may be uncomfortable to post just like that. it can be a nice subtle hint to see how certain larger communities are run.
from there it's just a matter of not wasting time on what could have been.
Maybe people on FA want to be like wild animals and don't comment for this reason.
who knows.
I've seen people get upset... and I mean rabidly upset, if a person faves but doesn't comment. I've also seen people get snide or complain when comments are the base "Good job" or "Nice" or something simple like that. Additionally, once or twice I've been on the receiving end for if I comment but miss something if their description, or if I use a term that one of their watchers has a disagreement with.
Granted, when taking the number of submissions and comments compared to the number of negative responses, it accounts for only about 1%. But as anyone on the internet will tell you, all it takes is that 1% to turn a person off to caring.
there are even artist on here who actually actively block comments and say "please don't ever fav or comment on my work" and getting criticism on your work? Geeze good luck with that too, because people now assume criticism is trolling and trolling is bad, u shudnt bully others.
People are sensitive now, unless it's positive, they don't want to hear it. Hence why you get comments on how nice and perfect everything is, but heaven forbid someone actually try to give constructive crit....Which won't be heeded anyway cause 'IT MY STYLE!'
I use to comment a lot and in depth. Till this trend got started. Now people are just scared to comment cause it's blown way out of proportion.
Fuck it just happened again.
;p
I mean, I'll like something and get the question "What'd you like about it?" And all I can ever think of is "... iunno, I just did?" Most of my comments would be the lame or silly "Hawt!" single word comments if I left one on everything I liked lol
Sorry. for myself, a lot of the time the reason I don't comment is indirect: especially for flash games, I dl them to my desktop to look at/play, and often I'll do that with several things at once, to look over once I've checked everywhere that I check. ... I don't comment because I can't until I've actually experienced the content, but then often by the time I actually play the content in question, I'm no longer on the page.
I, for one, will make more of an effort to remember to feedback on your work, now that I know you'd like more people to.

Also, not sure how I should feel about that xD
Besides, isn't that much to say about it.
On a side note, didn't you condemn any critique a couple of whiles back? How come the change?
But if you want to know, what fascinated me especially: The music in the flash! All three of them are superb-made, but this one...: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8443034/
Well, that one is highly addictive and entertaining to me. I re-listen it every month since you shared it! The tune pleases my ears. Great work!
However, If I don't reply to an upload, it's because I wasn't "blown away". It still not means, that it's bad, just that I haven't found anything, that I adore in it to bits. And the amounts of me getting "blown away" is heavily limited every day...for the sake of my sanity.
Request: Don't get >insert negative emotion<, when I am not replying, since I will always check out your uploads, and comment, when you did something, that is out of the ordinary...for me.
Thanks for your hard work, and keep it up!
think about most people you consider popular. do they typically give you any attention if asked for it? and are you not weary of even attempting contact because you fear you might put too much effort into a contact attempt that will only be ignored?
there are several reasons probably as to why, but for me and probably many others, we feel as if you might not pay attention to us. :\
make sense?
I still read every single comment, note, email, message that's provided for my viewing pleasure.
I think my popularity is a misconception, if anything.
the social structure is weird, and some people do try and break it, but those who've dealt with it long enough know that more times than not that you generally only make genuine contact with someone of similar social status.
you might not feel popular, but on FA you really are. :p
...just sayin. :3c
Or something similar.
1. the feelings of what their doing is so wrong but feels so good, conflict 30%
2. are using an account where they dont want people to know they like that kinda thing 20%
3. would like to leave a comment but get part way threw it and say to themselves "is this helping any" or dont really know what to say 10%
4. are blasting threw loads of porn and are trying to making great use of their time *wink wink* 70%
5. just really dont comment on things 10%
Not sure why this adds up to 140% but it seems about right to me. =P
I just cannot get into the whole my little pony thing just my two cents 3 months late
