I've been a volunteer with LiveJournal's Support team for over a year and a half and know that experience will be a wonderful asset in helping out here, if I'm chosen.
Or at least a website that isn't so easily hacked. :P
(that said, I do, personally, have some gripes but those are more in terms of administration of the site itself and not about it's base functionality... however, the know my complaint and I've said my peace so I'm not going to elaborate on what that is... I do hope, however, that they can shape up in that area because I do want to get back to posting here as opposed to Weasyl because I've spent too much time building up an audience over here that hasn't happened yet over there.)
Who pissed in your cheerios? Why do you care about what I say?
I know i didn't pay for your fursuit, but WHAT ARE THE NAMES AND WHY AREN'T THEY IMPROVING IT? I DEMAND TO KNOW. I'm entitled because I'm looking at it in an icon, I'm entitled to know!!
Sorry, but the "no on needs to tell u anything fa is a private site well when did u donate????????" shit is null and void until FA can make a profit by itself. The site is running on hardware donated by the community. Yes, there were individuals who donated specific things and specific amounts of cash, but until FA is buying equipment on their own they owe it to that community to at least be transparent enough to say who the hell is working on the site. Without them, ALL of them, FA would not exist.
FA has no one to blame but themselves for these questions. In the past, the "new coders" that were totally there either failed to materialize, or the statement was redacted/later changed to "what new coders we never had any" (i.e. during the Furocity "merger") or they actually existed and contributed until they got tired of being stonewalled by Yak and waiting 6 months for simple changes to be "reviewed" (Kitashi).
Further, an online community is not automatically required to be transparent about their spending or operations. If they choose to that's great, but it's not mandatory.
Is his fursuit something public that hundreds of users use on a daily basis?
Does he need constant maintenance on his suit for it not to crash?
Can his fursuit get upgrades and edits done on it to make said users experience more enjoyable?
And if so do we get to know who they are?
I think you need to rub your 2 neurons together and think before trying to post ironic post, cause now you just look like a dummy
^ That was the sound of you vastly missing the point that it's not really anybody's business! But since you wasted your, ah... '2' neurons trying to come up with an edgy response, here's a taste of logic for your sense of entitlement:
You're not entitled to know who works on the website.
You're not entitled to know what they do.
You're not entitled to demand improvements in a haughty manner.
You're not entitled to claim that people using a free site have the right to know the information of the employees who maintain it.
You're not entitled to call someone a 'dummy' in the same post where you fail amazingly at grammar and punctuation.
Here's what you're entitled to:
Using the website.
Not using the website.
Dealing with it.
Sitting down.
Shutting the fuck up.
Stop circlejerking about this shit. Seriously. FA has issues. That's cool, I'm not a fan and I prefer to flop about on inkbunny and whatnot more often these days, but listening to this echo-chamber self-entitled bawwwing over not getting what you want is quite... unbecoming of someone legally of the age to use this website. Grow a pair and stop crying about what you can't control, mmm?
So now you're just coming up with stuff to make me look bad. You sure are trying hard yourself to come up with an "edgy" reply.
You're quite the spectacle going about how i'm circle-jerking things I never even spoke of either.
And if there is a PUBLIC list of who works for this site. Why aren't the "new employees" there? And why not disclose their name? Are they far more precious than the rest of the coders?
Surely, the fact someone would ask "who works for this site?" make him an entitled asshole and couldn't be a good occasion for dragoneer to make some good PR with the users.
Looking back at your list of what someone is supposedly entitled to, maybe "shutting the fuck up" should be a priority on your list. Could definitely save you some
3/4 of your post is made out of bullshit I never said or even implied.
But I guess you don't want to thread over those waters, hm?
http://mrwgifs.com/wp-content/uploa.....action-Gif.gif
Nice try though!
All of this stuff. Just cause some one wanted something they didnt get.
Just mind boggling.
I think I might just hide down at the bottom.
Just find it weird to put up such a fuss just because the big man said no.
Its like a child saying "Hey mommy can I have a lollipop"
"No."
"But.. you said we have some why cant I have some."
"We have some but you cant have any."
"Well what kinds?"
"Im not telling you. You cant have any."
Thats.. thats what it sounds like to me.
Children not getting their way. I totally scrolled on last night, I just felt.. I wanted to comment on this XD
Its just like... goodness x.x people..
But in the end, FA or Dragoneer aren't personally required to disclose any information. Though I personally think he should.
But nobody is going to understand anything when you have people crying like gigantic crybabies and not realizing that not everybody has the time to read a books length amount of statements about how the other person is a moron for not spelling something correctly or making typos.
Such a shame.. all that wasted effort on something that doesn't mean much.
On the other hand, if there were competent coders, this comment wouldn't even exist.
And while we're in la-la land, Fur Affinity should give uploaders a choice of licensing terms like Flickr does. Free culture ain't no second-class citizen!
Too busy to give that much time.
Has community college classes.
Darn. :/
I'll stick volunteering for another site.
reason: 2spooky
Have skype
Have time
would flag / remove too much just for being a part of rule 34... cant do it. lol
HOLLA HOLLA TURN UP
Putting in the app now!!!
Hope we get some good ones this round :'3
The main issue with college students is that they tend to get far too busy with school, and FA falls by the wayside.
Hope to hear back either way though, have fun with all those applications from people heh.
Thanks for the quick reply. :)
like no one ever was
just... best update comment so far. simple, but great
I'm on FA all the time, every day, I would be able to clear many many trouble tickets. :D
I would like to resume going back to school, I am 20, and I am not sure if I can squeeze out 10 hours a week at this point in time.. I have Skype and live not too far from 'Neer, unless he has moved in the past 4 years...
As far as the drama comms go do past posts count or does the ban take place after becoming an admin?
It's a cocksucking contest.
Didn't wear a Digimon suit during it, did you?
I'm not sure how much specific experience they're looking for, because to be honest, I don't have much in the way of leadership at all.
Help my trouble ticket that's been hanging around
Unanswered since JULY 6 v 9
I mean, I'm 18, but I'm more responsible and understanding than most of the 21+ year olds that I know.
:I
http://pics.blameitonthevoices.com/.....010/canada.gif
20 > no job > no school + 24/7 on time i can dedicate lol
*highfive*
well U v U no one is stopping you from applying, right? I still say go for it, perhaps you will get this job, it'd sure be nice!
Who knows, maybe little information will still do the trick.
and if not, they'll likely do the same next year. again. and we'll be 21 by then. yay
I also sent in regarding some FA:U matters, but I don't know who else to contact via that, so here you go.
Mostly English words, non-standard grammar. Could be saying "Looks like too much fucking work. I don't want to be an admin, gods no!"
I'm 20, but I don't see why that should be a reason of not being accepted. since age shouldn't quite matter when you've got enough experience/time/dedication to do this kinda thing.
I hope being 18 doesn't ruin my chances though, but if it does, there is always next time. I won't be a sore loser.
Also, congrats to those who end up getting selected!
I do not think I will gain a spot but one would hope!
If I am not chosen good luck to those who are!
muhahahaha
So hears hoping for better admins and mods thins time.
It is October and the summer banner has been up for ~2 months. We need a new one!
I have been wanting to help out on here since I joined a couple years ago.
Even if I am not picked I won't give up and will keep trying every year.
This site is amazing and always growing, I would love to be a part of this to help everyone.
Also want to thank staff for taking the time to read all those recruitment's.
I am sure it is a very tedious process for you.
I wanted to join staff even more soo this year after going to my first Fur Con and experiencing meeting other furs.
I loved it so much that my mate and I are going to be planning on going to at least 2-3 a year now.
So here's to hoping!
Admins leave. Some discover there's a lot more work than they anticipated, or that it wasn't to their taste. Others just get burned out, some find life getting in the way... or a number of reasons. Admins leaving doesn't always mean a bad thing happened. For most (90%) it's that life crept up and they didn't have the time to invest.
Well FA have their reasons. I would've loved to sign up if I could.
Well maybe in the next 2 years
I will end with this quote,
http://www.forbes.com/sites/mikemya.....y-bad-leaders/
"The good news is, there is a better way to assess leadership ability. If you really want to determine someoneβs leadership prowess, give them some responsibility and see what they do with it. Leaders produce results. Itβs not always pretty, especially in the case of inexperienced leaders, but good leaders will find a way to get the job done."
Holy Sweet Jesus, it's a fucking miracle.
Not because I'm the wolfox you need, but as the wolfox you deserve.
That, and it's cool to solve problems. Practical problems.
but....
HomeStar Runner
http://www.hrwiki.org/w/images/thum....._of_Babies.PNG
Gotta wait 'til next time, then.
Such as I do have some skill in HTML, but not sure that would be put to use.
Though I would have no issue mainly focusing on trouble tickets as I see so many people complain that there's sit for months.
I can easily be clam in any issue thanks to haveing to have some people skills with where I work XD
But I would love to help in other ways if possible as well.
In other words besides keeping the peace wwhat else would a admin do?
(I won't bother burdening you with my opinion of Skype... I just have to ask.)
Anyway I'm always bitching about how FA needs more staff so I'm gonna step forward for an admin/mod position!
Therefor I dunno how my judgement would be 'fair' in the lines of what FA describes OR what its community expects of me. Sure, it's easy to follow the rules, but at times where you fall into situations where nothing specific 'is' written on paper (Eg. the TOS) or clashes with 'what-is-right', people would have to rely on my 'better judgement' to provide the best solution for not only the problem at hand, but FA as a whole as well. So it's true what they say: "With great power comes great responsibility"
Either way, I'll take a stab at it.
I'm on the site constantly as I do a lot of work through here. Part of the reason why I applied is because I'd like to give back to the community. It's done a lot for me, and I've organised my time in such a way that I would be available for it should the opportunity come round in my direction.
http://www.westworldmc.com/
Thank you.
Best of luck to you! ^^
As much as you want to say that bringing on new staff will only make the site worse and worse, you are dead wrong. After the injection of new staff last year, the ticket queue was cut down so substantially that many new tickets were being handled as they came in. Over time, however the same thing happened that always does - issues arise, certain staff members have to step down for one reason or another, and eventually the need arises again for more new blood to be injected into the site. The number of incidents that you seem to thing arose because of the new staff was actually very low, and those incidents that did arise were nothing like what you described.
Dragoneer has not taken these random teenagers and said "okay, you do whatever you want." There is a massive amount of oversight in place to ensure that new staff is up to standard (training before being allowed to do anything, monitoring when first starting, and as of when I was last active on staff a requirement to be actively in staff IRC when handling any tickets). Additionally, the coding team is an exclusive group. All admins to not have access to site code, and those that do are both experienced, and again work in communication with the others.
I guess I'll continue to keep an eye out for when you're asking for programmers.
Derp.
I sent in an app, just now, but I want to be aware if being 20 for a few more weeks immediately disqualifies me.
If you hate it so much, either buck up and make a change and apply for admin staff, or go to SoFurry.
They would love to have you so they can steal your work!
Furaffinity is the best furry site, hands down. It might have its problems, but as stated so many times above, everything is run on no cash, and little help.
I WILL make a change if voted onto staff. Some people are with me on this, and some are in it for the popularity.
For those here looking for popularity, go look at the staff members pages. Scroll down to where it says "Watchers" and look at how FEW people watch each staff member. The ONLY popular or 'popufur' ones are the owner, Neer, the musician, FoxAmore, and maybe one or two more.
I have more watchers then half the staff. Who cares about the popularity. Just join to make a flippin change guys! FA needs the help.
I DO wish that some of the unhelpful public complaining would be replaced by an interest in helping or a decision to go someplace else. Both of which are valid solutions, IMO.
She said I was friendly yet stern.
I'm with you in the change boat.
So many people want the spot for fame.
Im like bro.....go look at the staff....they have less watchers then I do now. There is no WAY im in it for fame, thats for sure xDDD
And we have so many people who dont KNOW what the rules are. We need admins to break it to them nicely. to give warnings and such. then keep an eye on the matter and if it dosnt change, follow up and do something about it.
I can take admin responsibility, but to add the popularity pressure on top of that would be stressful.
Yes, I agree on the rules.
There's also a lot of art theft and harassing asshats that are allowed to run free, I'd stomp those out eventually.
Make FA a pleasant place.
I'm rather uneducated on the subject myself and I would really like to know what exactly it is that needs to be fixed here?
so far from what I've gathered it needs something involving code, but that's all I know.
if its not to much to ask I would like to know more, specifically problems, and maybe I can find a way to help.
I warn you that there's some pretty shocking stuff.
Best wishes on your search.
TG
C:
Also whether things really are in or out of the standards of the AUP.
This is based on lots of issues I've witnessed, so yeah. Fingers crossed that some have that gift.
It's not a surprise that admins would have trouble with following up on art theft claims. It's a big circle of butthurt and stupidity that spins wildly out of control. White-knighters can dish out as much harassment as trolls, and you bet your ass if the admins don't immediately step up and protect their favorite artist's work (regardless of relative obscurity) they'll launch a tirade against the admins as well.
Basically...no one wins. Especially when you can't truly prevent someone from just creating a new account after they're banned. Bock their IP? You can manually change that, or just go wardriving to find a new wifi hotspot to log from and create a new account.
Ive had a good bit of art that Ive done pulled down because the admin handling it didn't know what they were doing and assumed the pic was against the AUP when it wasn't. I do art on cars, custom paint jobs and such, and i clearly state that in my pictures and in the description. But one particular admin decided that the custom painted cars, ((painted with furry relevant art)) were against the AUP, and pulled them down. Yet decided to leave up the few other car pics that were simply just pics of project cars. which is totally backwards. If anything there was more reason to pull the project cars then the custom painted ones as the project cars were fully stock so were in a more grey area in the AUP.
Also had a major issue with the same admin desputing custom texture work for games and such one particular admin kept removing submissions of mine, where i had spent many hours creating custom textures for games and kept removing them siting the AUP, which he obviously wasn't reading.
He was siting Screenshots and 3D Renders
Not Permitted
Screenshots of applications, games, movie or websites
3D models requiring purchase/sale to use (unless specifically custom made for the uploader)
Which if he bothered to read the description he would have seen i had custom made the textures. Also the section directly above that part of the AUP he was siting clearly states.
Screenshots and 3D Renders
Permitted in your Gallery
Second Life: screenshots of 3D models made specifically by or for the uploader
Public domain/fair use models provided the uploader cites the model's creators/sources
Screenshots of applications, games, movies of content the uploader has created unique content (does not include character creators)
Screenshots or sprites of copyright games may be used if part of a comic or recurring series of narrative images
Permitted inScraps
Generated images (character generators, terrain generators)
So Hopefully these new hired admins will take the time to actually read and understand there jobs. I had to submit trouble ticket after trouble ticket to get this resolved too because the admin who was removing my submissions was the one responding to the TT's and closing them. After 3 months I finally got tired of his ignorance and had to personally message other admins to get this handled. In the end I was allowed to repost the art i had done and I did. The other admins stated they would see to it that the art wasn't pulled down again and would talk to said admin. They did and I had no issue for about 5 months. Untill the same admin removed them all AGAIN! I contacted the other admins and was told they were going to handle the situation properly this time, and i could repost my art again, but by then i had lost a good bit of it, due to a pc failure.
(i tend to go above and beyond while being thorough and effecient on such things, good or bad)
was among one of my many reasons for applying personally.
Many people complain about unanswered tickets, which I peg is because of the massive amounts of people MAKING tickets that have nothing to do with actual rule breaking.
But if put into admin staff, I personally would aim to answer any and all tickets I could, even if they are a waste of time.
There are also a lot of bots getting into the site, more often now then I have seen in a long time. Someone needs to regulate that so the people here dont get more butt hurt. there is nothing people hate more then bots sending them spam about "oh go to this link to see my tits!"
Not to mention, I love this site. I have been on it for years. Gone though account changes, art style changes, I have seen people come and go, and I want to help FA be the BEST fur site on the net. It is well known, but struggles sometimes. I want to see it rise above SoFurry, inkbunny, ALL of those!! It has so much potential. People run their businesses here!! They make a living here! It needs to be the absolute best it can be!
THATS why I want to be admin, and HAVE wanted to be admin for a few years now
As for the ticket thing. Isnt that what FA needs? Someone who will sit here and go through all the tickets? Thats why they ask for at LEAST 10 hours a week. They want someone dedicated to fixing things. Thats me. Im on the computer a few hours every day. So what better way to spend my time then helping out a site I love so much?
As for the bots, a lot of people I watch have been getting them, and I think I have gotten about 7 in the last month? It gets really old, and Im sure there are folks out there getting it more then I.
Im no serious coder or anything, but I would be more then happy to look into more protection for the site to keep them out. Maybe some form of Captcha for posting notes. Something along those lines. I am on subeta.net, and before you buy anything in the shops, you have to fill out a captcha. It not only helps with hackers and heavy buyers, but it makes the user take time and actually enjoy the site.
There are many things that could be suggested and implemented. Many ideas I can bring from other sites, and just general ideas I want to share with the staff that I think would bring FA a lot more people as well as help those already here.
But if put into admin staff, I personally would aim to answer any and all tickets I could, even if they are a waste of time. "
Most tickets are actually relevant issues. Some are incredibly minor, but do require a response. Very few times is a ticket blatantly inaccurate. Harassment and art theft see false reports but very rarely are they so patently false that they don't need to be investigated. Additionally, every ticket always does require some form of response even if it amounts to "It appears as though this issue has been taken care of previously. Your ticket will be closed, if any other issues arise, please contact us again."
However, my advice to you is that if you are chosen, you need to take things slowly. It's very easy at first to dedicate yourself completely to the ticket queue. Insanely high closure stats are possible, but you burn out on it so quickly. You have to pace yourself on it a bit because doing several hundred tickets per stat period is great, but you're simply taking on too much. Burning out on it is very real; it happens to the best of us.
I've met most of the senior staff of FA many times, and while I understand that people act differently on a day to day basis than they probably do for the events I saw them, I can't imagine they're bad people.
I volunteer like I'm going to get paid for it and don't know to do if I'm not contributing.
It could be more better.
Even more decent than baseball. DUN DUN DUNN
This is gonna sound weird, but I tend not to trust authority figures because of how much abuse or failure to uphold I've seen, so I gravitate towards these positions to fill them with someone I trust to at least try: myself. If the job is being done by someone I trust and admire, I'm not worried, but if there's simply positions available (as so), well... naturally.
I seem to have 'a good rap', and so very little in my past that anyone could exploit. I'm basically an open book, someone could call me out on something I did ten years ago and I'd sooner correct them on the details than try to hide or deny it. I feel very socially presentable, past and present.
I have almost zero prior major drama associated with me.
I'm not an artist and don't overly obsess over any controversial artists and have a very binary moral code, either someone's o-k or they're just over the threshold and in the wrong.
I would be glad to help out
Maybe in 2 years I can volunteer. :>
I still think the must age being 21 is horrendus as maturity does not come with age it is how the person is brought up
You can not simply lump all the staff together, as staff changes over time, and everyone must follow the rules, no matter if they like to or not.
With age comes perception I think.
It has nothing to do with maturity ya? Just life experience.
I applied for Admin the last time around, wasnt a good fit it seemed. Once I find a good piece, though, I will apply for the wiki bit. Lots of writing experience, very little wiki experience.
Our goal with this and any future recruitment drives is to gather up and train staff members who are done with school, have steady jobs and online schedules, and have the maturity needed to work with the site's community.
Also, current dramas probably wouldn't help my chances...
Also, I'm not a staff-fanboy or whatever but damnit, stop the dramabullshit already, it's so annoying. If you don't like FA just go somewhere else or shut your ass.
If I were hiring a guy, I'd hire those who don't second guess themselves, and those who are confident enough to put in the app and address the issues as they come.
If I were you I would put the priority on getting your living situation more stable, play less video games, get a real job perhaps *before* telling the world that you want to put in more volunteer hours.
You should know I went to U.C. Davis to get certified as a Automotive Mechanic and I worked as an ASE certified Mechanic for 5 years after college. I had a good job and a Good career ahead of me, before a drunk on a suicide mission crashed his car into me disabling me from the waist down. My living situation is bad because my insurance isn't covering anything, and disability takes ages to get in this country, and when I wake up 5days out of the week and cant even stand because my back is so mangled, its pretty apparent I cant work.
Now I asked a simple question here, Because Id rather not put in an application and add to the cluster fuck of applications they will be receiving here. I run servers for games now because its fun and gives me something to do and look forward to other then having to face the fact im probably gonna dirt Poor and be in this fucking wheelchair till the day I die.
Now that you DO know My situation. Fell free to tell me to go get a "Real Job."
If you sit on the computer all day, why not look into an at home office job? They can pay up to $12 an hour and all you gotta do is sit and make phone calls and write stuff down and take notes.
It may not be fun, but hey, anything helps right?
I'm a stickler for organization, and getting things done right the first time. I will make sure trouble tickets that I am assigned will be answered promptly and efficiently. I care about the site a great deal and I am ready to dedicate plenty of time to the admin position.
I know that's not exactly what I was trying to say, but it's good enough ;)
Maybe I'm missing something, which is likely, I have only been on for about a year after all.
Dragoneer, you sure as hell have your hands full, I'd love to help out in some way-but to be honest I'm a little scared of what I mentioned above being directed at me.
Wish you the best of luck :)
(also yeah this journal is totally unrelated to what people are complaining about)
Even when speaking maturely, the community really can't expect that when they say "jump" Dragoneer will reply "how high?"
Yes he should update, yes he should be honest, and be up front-that would likely solve a lot of the issues people are having, but as I said I'm fairly new-so I don't know of any times he hasn't been honest or up front with things.
Yep, I got caught.
Thank you sir, you've stopped me in my evil ways.
I believe I can touch the SKY
I think about it every night and DAY
Spread my wings and fly AWAY!
EAT THAT kittens!
Thought it fit the moment :)
Well, next year i shall try to do my evil planz x) ^^
nah not really
I may end up doing only 1 ticket or 2 at a time and i would mostly be doing it groggy and tired.
Scrolled down comments.
Saw drama asplosion leaving icky sticky messy drama goo all over the fucking place, wondered for a couple more seconds about whether I really need the prospect of constantly dealing with that bullshit if by some weird longshot chance I do get a staff position of some kind.
NOPE.JPG
All the folks here say "FA staff dosnt give any damns!!!" Ya wanna know why? Read above. They have to put up with aaaaaaaaall that and STILL keep a cool head and run the place.
If you want something changed, go do it yourself. Dont rely on others to do it for you.
Just push "Ctrl+F" and type my username, then read all the thing I typed about how people shouldnt be in this for the popularity or the fame.
Thats the last thing I want.
Kinda stinks. Havent chatted with him for a LONG time.
Mostly cause he forgot who I was after not talking fora long time XD
Honestly it just comes down to what to choose for some personal writing... I have been to some political affairs when I was on the newspaper at my college. That is honestly where my best writing has been done..
*shrugs* Will give it all a shot though. Sorry if I seem a little 'meh' I am really not. It's just not life or death, but given the task I think it would be fun. I feel bad that I don't see many people talking about that.
* Be 21 or older."
Looks at Age box. First thing 16-20 <<< LOGIC RIGHT THAR!
At any rate, I can guarantee a LOT of time to the site, since I spend a lot of time on FA before I go to bed and at other points throughout the day. In fact, I check FA even more than I check my email, Facebook, or bank accounts! (and yes, I do monitor all of those sites reasonably well)
I would like to know as well! Very eager to see if I made the cut
would at least prove a new experience for me that i'd like to try for sure.
oh, well....
Instead of live.ca it's yahoo.ca I am sorry for the mixup so if you find my application just replace the liva.ca with yahoo.ca
Thanks and I hope any who are handling the applications reads this^^
Very eager to hear back sometime soon~ Would love to help the site
