I've been a volunteer with LiveJournal's Support team for over a year and a half and know that experience will be a wonderful asset in helping out here, if I'm chosen.

It has the same 4 technical team members that it has had for the past several years. So unless you mean "we've added a few coders since 2006" my statement stands.

Why not make putting their names on the list their first task? Because you can say "we brought on new coders" but I don't believe you until I see names.

To be fair, some of the gripes do have merit... however it would be disingenuous to say that is the real reason since FA is a big site and to the lay-person it's often difficult to gauge the actual amount of work needed to update the site while not disrupting the current site's functionality.

(that said, I do, personally, have some gripes but those are more in terms of administration of the site itself and not about it's base functionality... however, the know my complaint and I've said my peace so I'm not going to elaborate on what that is... I do hope, however, that they can shape up in that area because I do want to get back to posting here as opposed to Weasyl because I've spent too much time building up an audience over here that hasn't happened yet over there.)

I think it's fair for people who've donated to feel entitled. Now, who has donated and who hasn't... that's another story. But plenty of people certainly have.

no, keeping people informed and not skirting around things like...saying they have coders but refusing too list names. That sort of thing :) just keep people informed, its mostly what people on FA want, just to know stuff :)

You are not entitled to make demands of a website that you don't fund whatsoever. I am sure when its not broken, you don't try to fix it. I have had no issues with FA bugs myself. Overhauling the web design takes time and money the admins and coder probably don't have. I am sure they have other responsibilities other than the functioning of this site. They most likely have lives as well I can't speak for them, but I am sure they work hard in making sure FA functions correctly. Making demands of them is most likely going to irritate them instead of actually being helpful in any way.

Sorry, but the "no on needs to tell u anything fa is a private site well when did u donate????????" shit is null and void until FA can make a profit by itself. The site is running on hardware donated by the community. Yes, there were individuals who donated specific things and specific amounts of cash, but until FA is buying equipment on their own they owe it to that community to at least be transparent enough to say who the hell is working on the site. Without them, ALL of them, FA would not exist.

FA has no one to blame but themselves for these questions. In the past, the "new coders" that were totally there either failed to materialize, or the statement was redacted/later changed to "what new coders we never had any" (i.e. during the Furocity "merger") or they actually existed and contributed until they got tired of being stonewalled by Yak and waiting 6 months for simple changes to be "reviewed" (Kitashi).

It seems you have conflated the concepts of an online community and a profitable company. A community does not necessarily need to be profitable or even solvent to be enjoyable.

Further, an online community is not automatically required to be transparent about their spending or operations. If they choose to that's great, but it's not mandatory.

The administrative job is easy even. All you gotta do is answer trouble tickets, punish the wrong person every time, ignore specific troll names because those trolls have immunity on this site, and not touch the code. You'd make a perfect admin! :P

It's simple, the coders are simply imaginary, they're called: "Earl" and "Gerald". Every single time Sean steps into his box of imagination he imagines his two coder friends to be there with him, helping him improve the site. Only he sees the improvement because it's like the story of the emperor's clothes... all while his 'real coders' are wondering what they can- and cannot do. Spoilers: They're not allowed to implement new features or generally improve the site. =P

Maybe, he doesn't want people like you, bugging the heck out of the coders, who may be busy with other things that adhering to your specific demands. I'm sorry to say, but patience is a virtue, and it pays to be polite to the people who run this site. You aren't the one taking time out of your day to ensure site functionality. Periodically, yes.

The main issue with college students is that they tend to get far too busy with school, and FA falls by the wayside.

I assumed it was some reason like that. My activity logs should show how much time I spend on this website anyway, but I can certainly see the logic in having that stipulation in there.

You can't actively contribute to any community which promotes drama, so there is a ban of sorts. If admins still joins those communities to keep tabs on what's going on, issues of concern, that's fine. But they can't actively promote drama in any way.

Depends on the nature. If someone is civil, offering rational discussion and insight? No problem. If people are trolling, harassing or creating problems? Then yeah, that may be held against them.

Awesome. :) Well, if I get it, then I would be great at it, but I don't think I will because the only forums I have been admin of were either temporary forums that have long since been dead or deleted or were taken offline this morning by the idiots at ProBoards. :/ Kinda killed my application there.

Believe it or not, I was in a very similar spot. I lacked direct evidence to point to "this is a board I am currently a moderator of." If you take the time to explain the positions you held and what they taught you about how site need to be run, you'll definitely get some consideration, I believe. The positions themselves are only part of the criteria, after all. I believe they mostly look for professional applicants who seem to have a good mindset for administrating the site.

Which brings me to my next point: I don't have any site or forum leadership experience, but I do try to be helpful here and there as well as 6 years of retail/customer service experience. Most of all, I spend plenty of time on FA and I care a great deal about the site.

I'm not sure how much specific experience they're looking for, because to be honest, I don't have much in the way of leadership at all.

Emotional stability and maturity count for a lot. The tales those of us who've volunteered to be moderators/admins could relate would be instructive if it weren't for the violation of trust to relate them. One thing I learned is "keep disciplinary matters between yourself and any other 'staff' that may be involved and the putative violator of the rules. Period." I'm sure the folks running FA have a "guidebook" of some sort

It can be a lot of fun. Get several friends to play "translator tag". You send someone a sentence translated, but not corrected. They repeat this in another language... oh, include the language name used before the sentence and don't translate the list :P Repeat until it gets back to the originator and share what you got.

I've wanted to be an admin/mod for a while, really. But it seems that lately I don't have the time to be able to do a good job at it. Much as I regret it, I'll have to let this opportunity pass ._.

Just finished the recruitment form for admin.
I have been wanting to help out on here since I joined a couple years ago.
Even if I am not picked I won't give up and will keep trying every year.
This site is amazing and always growing, I would love to be a part of this to help everyone.

Also want to thank staff for taking the time to read all those recruitment's.
I am sure it is a very tedious process for you.

I wanted to join staff even more soo this year after going to my first Fur Con and experiencing meeting other furs.
I loved it so much that my mate and I are going to be planning on going to at least 2-3 a year now.

I am just curious, out of the many who were selected for mods/admins from last year's recruitment drive, how many are left? And those who get selected this year, how many will remain when this is done again for the 2014-2015 recruitment drive?

If I counted right, 8 of the 18 who were added last year remain on staff, and honestly that seems like a decent retention rate, considering that there's no way to directly tell exactly how well someone will fit on staff from their application, nor is there anyway to anticipate whether someone will run into personal issues and have to step down. I believe that the bigger problem, which has made this new recruitment drive necessary, was the resignation/removal of old staff members in conjunction with the loss of new staff.

Most of the admins who left departed due to life getting in the way (leaving them unable to help) or school was just too much, and it came down between FA and school. I'll always encourage FA admins to put life issues first, but that doesn't always leave time for the site in the process.

Admins leave. Some discover there's a lot more work than they anticipated, or that it wasn't to their taste. Others just get burned out, some find life getting in the way... or a number of reasons. Admins leaving doesn't always mean a bad thing happened. For most (90%) it's that life crept up and they didn't have the time to invest.

I'll give this a shot, I have good interaction skills, plenty of free time and am 23. Really don't emulate that there couldn't be any more difficulty in undertaking such a role.

If selected I will stay on as admin and not back out a couple months into it like previous admins have done due to pressure.

Probably right, though if you've ever dealt with any of the admins here half of them really don't have a good sense of humor. I have a sense of humor and I'm good with people.

I am only 19 and applied for the admin position despite the fact it says 21+. I have been moderating forums\sites since I was around 14-15. I am willing to put 40+ hours weekly into answering tickets, and resolving any general site problems a user may face. I hope you consider, and good luck to everyone else.

I do a questions though...
Such as I do have some skill in HTML, but not sure that would be put to use.
Though I would have no issue mainly focusing on trouble tickets as I see so many people complain that there's sit for months.
I can easily be clam in any issue thanks to haveing to have some people skills with where I work XD
But I would love to help in other ways if possible as well.

Why is Skype a requirement?

Because the Admins use Skype as their form of communications, it allows voice chat, file share, cam etc so they can set up meetings. Plus you can leave offline messages unlike the IRC that the admins use otherwise, plus the IRC is text base I believe. Skype allows them to do everything else (not code based)

Interesting, I might apply for Adminship, there's not a single day I'm 'not' online here. Though, in all honesty: I'm not sure what exactly is meant by: "fair judgement" since 'justice' (just like beauty) is mostly in the eye of the beholder.
Therefor I dunno how my judgement would be 'fair' in the lines of what FA describes OR what its community expects of me. Sure, it's easy to follow the rules, but at times where you fall into situations where nothing specific 'is' written on paper (Eg. the TOS) or clashes with 'what-is-right', people would have to rely on my 'better judgement' to provide the best solution for not only the problem at hand, but FA as a whole as well. So it's true what they say: "With great power comes great responsibility"

You know, not being in a administrative position before is pretty discouraging for me to even apply, but we all have to start sometime, somewhere.

I put through an application.
I'm on the site constantly as I do a lot of work through here. Part of the reason why I applied is because I'd like to give back to the community. It's done a lot for me, and I've organised my time in such a way that I would be available for it should the opportunity come round in my direction.

I put in for admin. I mean, who dosn't love a chocobo?

I would really like to see those trouble tickets get beat down faster. I know myself and others have had tickets that have been left unanswered for long periods of times (months) and I feel for others who situations would be really important that when the tickets aren't get answered in a timely manner that it can be bad for the person who filed the ticket :C

I have had dreams of being an admin of any site.I wondered what i'd be like despite my age and even..if i would like it. I had dreamed it for e621.net and i dunno if it's one i should consider.
