Agreed, it is really crappy that she's in this situation. How about asking her for some info so you can file a complaint against the person that's screwing with her hours? Try to see if there's a more substantial, long-term job that will fix the problem at the source? :)

Perhaps I'm an exception to the rule but I read nearly all the journals of the artists I watch. and some of us do, do what we can to help, I wish I could do more.

There is a lot of other artists struggling to get by here on FA as well, I try to help where I can but I'm no longer in a financial place to help for now seeing I've been laid of for 3 weeks now. everything I've seen from my years on FA and in the furry fandom is that very few artists are going to make enough to live on from this fanbase, its just a sad reality of life. It's likely safe to say the majority of the fury fandom is barely just getting by in this current economy, for a lot of us its coming to a choice of eating with a roof over our head vs buying art. Luckily for me I'm stil in a position where food and shelter's not to much of a worry at the moment, though being laid off has really cut into what I've been able to commission.

with that said I'm gonna give  MelsAlterEgo a signal boost, and sadly add her to the ever growing list of artists I know that are in need of financial support. THough I think it would be nice if a group of us would create a group here on FA to he signal boost and help the artists in need, been thinking seriously about creating a group like that, though I'm honestly not even sure where to begin on creating a group like that.

I have seen artists that do not have a tenth of her capability get flooded with work, so it is not quite a simple as that (as things tend to be)

That having been said, I do like that group idea. For what it is worth you have my support for it.

ive seen the same, just ive seen a slow down witj alot of other talented artists. ive seen auctions go into the 200s for art inferior to what some artists create and struggle to get 40 for so yes i understand and agree with your point. yeah may try to get that group started this weekend and see where it goes though any input on a name for it would be greatly appreciated along with any other insights on it.

Ok, you know what? I'm going to be "that guy" here. While I can say with sincerity that I feel for this artist's predicament, she's just one of hundreds of thousands of people in the US alone who are in the same situation right now. And god knows if I had the money to give, I'd consider commissioning her just to help her out and get something nice in the process. But the truth is, I don't have the money to spare. I'm flat broke and the only thing that's keeping me from being homeless right now is the good graces of my parents, who are keeping a roof over my head while I try in vain every day to try to find a job in a small town in a state with the highest unemployment rate in the country. So, yeah...I'm sorry that she's in such a bind right now and in dire need of money. I wish I could help.

But you know what? I need money, too. I have medical issues that I -really- need to get taken care of (a hole in my jaw where the remains of a wisdom tooth once was, for starters; then there's the fact that I have a serious sinus issue that's actually causing me pain) but I can't do a damn thing about them because I have no money and no medical insurance. But I know that it would be completely pointless to come on here and ask for handouts, especially considering that I'm not an artist and can't give anything to anyone who helps me in return.

I have sympathy for your friend's plight, and if it were in my power to help, I certainly would. But she's not alone here, and bashing and cursing and cussing and ranting at people in your journal like you did here and basically saying "Help my friend or you're an asshole and I hate you." is not the way to garner the sympathy you're trying to get for your friend, and it makes -you- look like a raving douchenozzle.

I'm sorry if anything I have said here is offensive to you, but I don't believe that driving your point in with a sledgehammer serves any useful purpose when a regular hammer would do just as well.
