That's out now? Damn that was quick, seems like I heard about it a few months ago. Probably nowhere near as good as the Korean movie adaptation.

I heard the movie got re-scored and re-edited by the producers, not Spike Lee, plus it's getting a limited release. None of this is a good sign.

Oh, and Spike has history when it comes to stealing poster art -- Google his 90s movie Clockers, and compare its poster to the classic Saul Bass design for 1959's Anatomy of a Murder.

PS: It flopped big-time this weekend.

idk! I saw a trailer and I was like "Why's Samuel Jackson in this. Also he's acting better than the protagonist imo"

I thought the action sequences were awesome. And this is just me, but the " the reveal" just made me feel uncomfortable. But besides that, it was an interesting movie. I need to see the old one in order to make a proper comparison, but I kinda enjoyed it.

Been kinda leery about remakes, especially Oldboy. I'm still having nightmares about The Wicker Man remake....fffffffffuuuuuuuucccckkkkkkk!!!!!

I'll probably download and watch it in a few months, I just feel bad supporting it considering.

From what i've read its probably gonna be a renter. Tho honestly the reviews say its by-the-numbers which i guess should mean its like the original, word for word. Seems like the complaints were that Spike Lee didnt do anything to give it a fresh perspective. If that makes any sense.

I thought about it then I saw the Director was Spike Lee. That was more than enough for me to just say no.

I haven't seen the new one, but I did watch the original movie, which was quite good. Apparently Spike Lee pretty much stole the poster art from a starving artist, though, even used his samples for publicity shots. Just for that I'm going to go ahead and not give him any money.

Saw some postings by the designer of the posters, he rejected their lowball offer and just considered it a wash. Saw later they took ALL his ideas that he said he wasn't going to sell them and used them in the posters anyway. Little fish so he can only make mention of it on the internet. Pretty crappy of the production company.

I saw it. It had a few interesting moments, but by and large it struck me as the sort of remake that really couldn't justify its existence. It went overboard on pretty much every element (likely hoping to avoid being seen as "wimping out" compared to the original), which was a big part of the problem. All the elements of the original that were done with the right balance of class and weirdness (and therefore got under your skin) are simply, sometimes laughably, ridiculous here.

Feel free to skip it and stick with the original. That one's still a genuine modern classic. This one's a wannabe cash-in on the brand, little more.

I'm sort of nervous about it, most of the time remake in my ears means "Killed with special effects and generic characters"

How could it be good, the korean original is so great, the american version must to be really bad. (As many american remakes of asian movies are. I didn`t see one good yet)

Just watch the old one. Which isn't that old.

I actually saw a trailer for it and watched it after it came on DVD. I loved the movie, then found out it was based off a 2003 Korean movie, which in turn was based off a manga, and I was like: whoa, this stuff is popular! Honestly, loved the movie lots of action and stuff, really twisted in alot of ways. Should check it out if you haven't already.
