New for 2013: the official FA Christmas, Holiday Tree, Yule Log Decoration and Festivus pole decoration!
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12239491/
Want to get your hands on one? Here's what you need to know!
- The 2013 FA ornaments are limited edition. There will only be 500 made (or until we run out of trees!). Each ornament is individually numbered.
- We promise the ornaments will not cause your tree to crash! It may go offline, but some Christmas trees just do that on their own.
- Ornaments are laser engraved on natural cut cedar wood, and no two are alike. The individual grain of the wood varies with each and every ornament. As an added bonus: they smell absolutely amazing!
- Ornaments are $25 each (shipping not included). We offer discounted shipping rates for orders with multiple ornaments (inquire within!).
- Any orders made by December 14th will be shipped that day, ensuring your ornament will arrive by Christmas!
- You're free to order more than one, but we encourage you NOT to decorate your entire tree with 'em! That'd be weird.
- $10 from each sale goes to Fur Affinity (will cover costs of SSL cert renewal and to fund a mobile-friendly site design). The rest covers time, labor and material to make them.
We're taking orders NOW. Interested? Fill out an order form today:

Charity is fine, but 'all spare money' doesn't need to go to charities. That's all. Business costs come first.
It's simply my opinion. I demand nothing.
People are free to donate to charity if they want to, they are also free to purchase an ornament to help support FA AND they get a physical item to show for it.
Also, for what it's worth, I've given money to FA before, in exchange for services, and got THE WORST service I've ever gotten, so if stuff like Ads were handled better, it would be nice, and I wouldn't mind actually giving money for them.
That said, Nobody is saying that you HAVE to give to charity, we're just saying it would have been a better reason in our eyes, to sell things during the holiday season, considering how many people are in need now, and your reaction is amazingly unprofessional, and I certainly don't like the way you're trying to guilt trip people. I'm not sure WHAT you do for the site, but I hope it isn't public relations. :/
Your husband claims that $10,000 goes towards charity from FA's 'earnings'. Since FA isn't a company I'm given to assume that most of its income comes from convention earnings and donations towards the site's upkeep. We'll also assume that FA:U pays for itself, with money from that event kept aside to organise and run next year's event, as a foregone conclusion. Whatever money is left over, therefore, must be claimed as profit - surplus money. With that in mind: don't you think that $10,000 of site profits is an obscene amount of money to be donating to charity, when in the next breath you claim that good work is hard to pay for?
This raises the following question: If FA budgets $10,000 in charity donations, from the profit coffers, where is the rest of the money being going, if not on site upkeep? I'd be very interested to see an expenses record published, to see exactly how FA is budgeted and run, if only in the interests of complete transparency and honesty in how your patrons' money is being spent. It might go a ways to dispelling the rumours of mismanagement and embezzlement that abound in dark corners.
In a previous journal your husband has pretty much claimed to be working on the site single-handedly - I may be wrong, but all evidence seems to point to this conclusion. While it's a noble effort to steer this wagon on your own, don't you think that getting the site working flawlessly is paramount to improving your public image by throwing $10,000 at a charity? It's obvious that FA as a website needs a dedicated team of programming staff, and yet we don't have this. We have one person and perhaps a few others working on this in their spare time, barely holding the place together with wads of gum, string, and an incantation to the Omnissiah.
Believe me, as soon as I see some concrete evidence that things are going to improve, rather than vaporous promises of 'things to come', you won't hear a single discouraging word from me at all. I support FA wholeheartedly, but some things just don't add up to a sensible conclusion. I'd like to be able to speak positively about the site and the staff, but as of yet I've very little reason to.
I believe we still need to take the time to worry about our own problems before trying to throw everything 'extra' at charities. FYI I'm someone who is on disability income and have to rely on friends to be properly fed. x.x
The way you made your comment how a con is in dire need instead of those who are in need, yet here you are telling me that you have to depend on your friends for food. Think about it with any sort of charity that goes to people with disabilities you would be getting some more help. Everyone in the world deserves just a bit of help, right? Sorry if my wording is off I hope you can maybe get the idea of what I am trying to say.
FA isn't a business that makes tons of money like Amazon. Frequently they have to do fundraisers for themselves. So why is it so bad to give support to a site that we enjoy using regularly? Why do people instantly think "This group is doing something nice that involves making money, but they aren't giving it to a charity! Shame on them!" X_x
If you want to help someone, give the help to someone who tries hard but struggles. Don't give it to someone begging, don't give it to someone who is just trying to maximize what they get in life. Such people are rare, but believe me, they appreciate it. *goes to hang out with his roommate to say thanks for letting him live where he does*
also furrys are cute and furaffinity is a cool website
maybe more important issues should be addressed than natural disaster relief like maybe preventing or protecting against said disasters?
Idk zzzzzzzz
Nothing really matters
As far as protection, there's not much one can do against a Typhoon or a tornado.
But hey, avoiding scammy charities is an easy click away if you do 30 seconds of research.
or maybe aids 2
He is right though! There are already several concepts whicha re being tested... All needed is time...
So am I, but I don't have friends.
Besides that, the debt that the US has made is a result of it's own choices- like how much is spent on war instead of education and healthcare, etc. Not to get political, but it's just plain facts. The Philippines did not choose to have a typhoon devastate their country, and there are a lot of people there who need help, and a little goes a long way. If everyone in the US donated a dollar, that would be over 300 million dollars. If the US as a country donated something like 1 million (or even a QUARTER of that) it would still go quite a long way in making sure affected people have warmth and fresh water.
The attitude "us before them" is not okay, and it is what lets the poverty problem remain in countries like the US, and leaves people to starve in poorer and war torn countries in Africa and other places around the world. Have a little compassion.
Charity is great, and all, but you can't expect every single thing to be a donation drive.
Because by the discussion here (not just you, this whole chain), nobody is ever allowed to retain any money in the bank or buy extra things they want rather than need, because apparently everyone's money should go to charities. And while I'm all for donations, the unfortunate truth is that you need to make sure you yourself are financially stable before you can move to help the world around you.
My point? If you want to donate to charity, that's fine. By all means, donate what you can afford to donate. People rely on donation money to survive disasters, and hard times. However, don't sit there and criticize others for spending money on something that isn't a donation. It assumes that they aren't making donations outside of that purchase, and forgets all the purchases you made that weren't charitable.

And I thought that white one was real for a moment there.... o.o
My opinion here? "Oh look, they're making something cute and being upfront about what they want to achieve with it. Neat!"
TC
Until then, I willing to bet this will go in the same pile as the Gallery Folders and the new UI that was promised the last few times they took donations.
That said, UI has been rebooted again and is in the works. I don't have dates, but we've made quite a bit of progress. It will take a few months.
I'm quite interested in seeing updates on this more often. It'd be nice to know the money is being used for its intended purpose, because I sorta feel left in the dark. I know I'm not the only one, either.
It's taken YEARS. I mean, it's okay if shit happened that stopped you guys from being able to do so, but own up to it, and don't act like promises were never made. :/
And that UI was scrapped some time ago because, while nicer, it wasn't quite as user friendly as it first appeared. It didn't work well in a variable width format.
Plus, it's not just THIS last year. It's the last several years.
It's crashed how many times this week?
Be still, my beating heart.
Thank you for doing this for the users.
Ahh maan I wish I had the money. xD
I want one, we shall see!
Maybe next year we could have a certain artists chosen/contest to what ornament art is put on, seems like a wicked way to get this community as a whole having fun!
I still think it's a wicked idea. Good on ya.
I do not want to be replied to on this either, if you do it will very much be ignored. Thank you.
I look forward to it :)
Read: Maybe next year we could make popufurs even more popular by chose some of them to make the ornament art.
Don't get me wrong, that's good idea but those chosen artists would very likely be popufurs. I'd rather see some not so popular artists get their art to the ornament(s).
I'm all for shedding light on artists who aren't popular and deserve some light of there own.
I'm not open to discuss it anymore, simply a suggestion that was to not be taken into dense consideration. Thank you.
I always try to get ornaments that are relative to my interests. Makes the tree more personal that way; especially now that I have my own!
Totally gonna put it on the tree.
It's actually pretty nice.
Maybe it will be worth something one day, I dunno.
Or can artists say in a journal "spread the word" because they didn't specify how? (ie journal pimping)
Like.... Omg
Fender looks amazingly cute also
I swear to God, you guys just lurch from one PR disaster to the next. Just when I was beginning to get faith in you lot.
Looks great in person, and smells amazing. Number 64 represent.
But that will wait until I can afford it :3
Happy holidays!
