We'll do a community ornament drive next year. This project sort of fell together while doing ornaments for Cruinndrac Farms.

Okay people reallllly need to get off the 'everything goes to charity' kick. Oklacon for example has been suffering from that so bad that they can't even fund fun stuff at the convention. They need money to buy a tent for additional event space but WHOOPS, we gave it all to charity.

Charity is fine, but 'all spare money' doesn't need to go to charities. That's all. Business costs come first.

Considering FA just got thousands in donations and equipment mere months ago (from which I see no change in the site as a result might I add), I highly doubt it would hurt for them to donate that portion to Charity.

To be fair, they make a lot of that in ads, and I'm sure in con revenue. FA has been going fine for all these years without selling a few holiday ornaments, why NOT donate it to charity? I'm sure that their local homeless shelter would love that money!

To be fair, if you guys actually hired people in the first place, it would be nice- the site would probably work 10x better. It's sad when sites that are inferior for varied reasons *coughcoughdisrespecttoartistscoughcubporn* are, in terms of technology, far superior to FA, and last I checked none of them are paying their coders!

Also, for what it's worth, I've given money to FA before, in exchange for services, and got THE WORST service I've ever gotten, so if stuff like Ads were handled better, it would be nice, and I wouldn't mind actually giving money for them.

Since FA isn't a company I'm given to assume that most of its income comes from convention earnings and donations towards the site's upkeep. We'll also assume that FA:U pays for itself, with money from that event kept aside to organise and run next year's event, as a foregone conclusion. Whatever money is left over, therefore, must be claimed as profit - surplus money. With that in mind: don't you think that $10,000 of site profits is an obscene amount of money to be donating to charity, when in the next breath you claim that good work is hard to pay for?

This raises the following question: If FA budgets $10,000 in charity donations, from the profit coffers, where is the rest of the money being going, if not on site upkeep? I'd be very interested to see an expenses record published, to see exactly how FA is budgeted and run, if only in the interests of complete transparency and honesty in how your patrons' money is being spent. It might go a ways to dispelling the rumours of mismanagement and embezzlement that abound in dark corners.

In a previous journal your husband has pretty much claimed to be working on the site single-handedly - I may be wrong, but all evidence seems to point to this conclusion. While it's a noble effort to steer this wagon on your own, don't you think that getting the site working flawlessly is paramount to improving your public image by throwing $10,000 at a charity? That is SO gross to say. :/ This is why nobody would want to give money to the US if they had a disaster.

Besides that, the debt that the US has made is a result of it's own choices- like how much is spent on war instead of education and healthcare, etc. Not to get political, but it's just plain facts. The Philippines did not choose to have a typhoon devastate their country, and there are a lot of people there who need help, and a little goes a long way. If everyone in the US donated a dollar, that would be over 300 million dollars. If the US as a country donated something like 1 million (or even a QUARTER of that) it would still go quite a long way in making sure affected people have warmth and fresh water.

The attitude "us before them" is not okay, and it is what lets the poverty problem remain in countries like the US, and leaves people to starve in poorer and war torn countries in Africa and other places around the world. Have a little compassion.

By all means, if you want to help out a charity, help it. The fact that FA is selling ornaments to raise money for the site doesn't stop anyone from donating to charity on their own any more than buying literally any other item does. Are you going to complain that McDonald's doesn't donate 10 cents out of every sale of McNuggets to charity, or that Nintendo isn't donating a chunk of every Wii sale to charity?

Charity is great, and all, but you can't expect every single thing to be a donation drive.

After all, most people will drop something in a charity collection every now and then even if they don't make a big formal donation. Now, how much have you spent on goods/services for yourself in the past month? You know, groceries, gas, electricity, etc. I'm going to bet that it was a lot more. Surely along the way, you've bought things you didn't really need. Maybe it was a candy bar, maybe it was a soda, or even the more expensive brand of cereal. That all amounts to money that also could have been used "much more effectively" if donated to charity.

My point? If you want to donate to charity, that's fine. By all means, donate what you can afford to donate. People rely on donation money to survive disasters, and hard times. However, don't sit there and criticize others for spending money on something that isn't a donation. It assumes that they aren't making donations outside of that purchase, and forgets all the purchases you made that weren't charitable.

We donated $10,000+ to the NJSPCA this year. I'm all about charity. FAU itself is dedicated to the NJSPCA, and we invite the same charity back every year because we believe in them, our attendees have made friends, watched the NJSPCA progress.

For keeping the site security certification and developing a mobile-friendly site, it's worth it. All I have is mobile, but aside from devouring data, it works fairly-well on the full site. My prior phone didn't display the logout and sfw buttons, nor did it like the menus that drop down and pop left. I'm sure many will appreciate this development when it occurs.

I'm a little nervous about the mobile site because the full site has worked well for me. As long as there is a full site option as well then I think it'd be a good idea.

Mobile site would mostly be a variation on the layout (not changing features, but how they're formatted) and reducing the size of the templates themselves once we're done converting all the layouts from tables to divs (which will save space, help loading).

Would the mobile site URL be slightly different? Like mobile.furaffinity.net or similar? That would allow users to choose for themselves.

So what you're saying is that we can have exactly the same shoddy functionality as we do for the desktop site, but with the convenience of having our data mined and our browsers crashing on the go?

The SSL certs are fairly expensive, and we need two (one for facdn.net and one for FA itself). Ours expires in Jan. Modifying the layout to take up less resources and improve load times is a big goal for a proper mobile layout. Not doing an app, just a friendlier web version.

Will the user be able to choose mobile / full version, in case they prefer how things are on the full version, or if some features aren't on the mobile site? (Hopefully all the features would remain.) I recently upgraded my phone, and now the menus work. I think it was due to everything getting pushed into shared spaces.

I'm saying as designer. believe me, I always have problems with my own websites I make and work on, sometimes I have to work on a update before it's released for public version. so I know what's it like for FA designers. problems and shit happens. but we try to make best of it in our way. like donating to a charity. because it will help.
