Welcome to the Family - Cute + Cuddly Hamsters!
Christmas Day, after delivering gifts to one of my furry friends and his mother, I made a comment in passing about adopting a hamster, lab rat, or other rodent as a pet in the new year. I have sometimes missed Ginger (an adult female ginger colored teddy bear hamster), who passed away many years ago due to prolonged sickness. Adopting a small critter has been on my "would be nice if..." list since last New Years. Little did I know that under 24 hours hours I would get my wish. It seams their female neighbor across the street was moving. and had a pair of hamsters that needed a good home or they were going to the pound.
So, tonight my fiancee
kitta1652 cut our visit short with family, so I could pick up the hamsters. They came in a 50 gallon pink toy storage box with a plastic grate for a top. They have a metal wheel, a well chewed food dish, a plastic platform to jump on and hide under, and a water bottle. Luckily, my mother had 2 PenPlax hamster cages in storage that I just need to clean up to give them a more spacious and mentally stimulating module home.
I will post photos of the hamster soon when I have their new home cleaned up and set up.
I do not have names for the hamsters yet.
What the hamster future home will look like: *clickie* (and I have tons of tubes like these) *clickie*.
One is a female and all black aside from a strand of white by her whiskers. The black hamster's left ear has a bite mark in the middle of the ear. The bite is clean and looks very cosmetic since it appears that the bite healed up many months ago. The other hamster is a male with a tri-color (calico?) coat pattern. I do not know much else about their history aside from they are both adults (at least a year old), and they look healthy. Also, they do not have any vet records. I will call back a local vet's office either tomorrow or Monday to see if they still have someone on staff that specializes in exotic animals, so I can hopefully schedule a discounted well pet visit in the next week or so. I have 5 vets within driving distance, so I am pretty sure I can find one that hopefully knows more about treating hamsters than disappearing into the back room to read a reference book.
So, anyone else have hamsters or small critters as pets?

Im happy that kitta let you have that time to go obtain the little ones. I can't wait to see them on skype sometime soon. *gives many foxy snugs*

Well, I do not want to stress them out. Ill give them a few days in their new home and then try handling them more. I do not know how well they would behave on cam. *goodnight snugs since sleepy kitty is sleepy*

Oh I plan to! I just want to make sure they are healthy since it has been years since I owned hamsters. I think since they are in the same cage together they may be brother and sister, but I am not ruling out the female possibly being pregnant. >_>
