Have you talked to the vet about doing payments on the treatment. A friend of mine did this when her dog got really sick, but I don't know if the vets in your area will. I do hope everything turns out good.

Our vet told us their business is to small to do payments :( Ollie's going to be okay though!

Face4Pets stepped in when my cat swollowed thread. It tied his intestines up and he couldn't eat/use the bathroom and was a day away from dying. They paid 50% of our $1200 bill and saved our kitty. The other 50% came from donations from the amazing people on FA.

My cat has the same condition. (I think? I think there's like 2 different types. Regardless, if you cat does not get unblocked, he can die.)
It is considered a condition your cat will have for life and he will have to eat special food for the rest of his life.

If you vet decides to cath him, what ever you do, make SURE they make him sleep first, otherwise they can cause major damage to his urinary tract. My vet didn't do this with my cat, and as far as I know there is no damage, but I do remember sitting in the waiting room hearing him scream in pain as they cathed him.

I was instructed to feed my cat nothing but hillsCD diet for the rest of his life, but he was still having issues after where he would just be laying down and urine would literally just drip out of him.

I stopped feeding him Hills, and started making him home made raw cat food, and I have not had any problems since.

Once this is all over, please please please PLEASE change the diet of all your cats. If you can't afford to MAKE his food, at least give them wet food. =[ Dry food, from my experience at least, is the culprit.

**I advise anyone who has a dog to home make their dogs food as well, or at least make sure to feed as close to a raw meat diet as possible. These are carnivorous animals, not omnivorous as we humans are and their needs are very different. Please make sure to provide them their proper nutrition as it can dramatically increase their health, prevent future health issues, and better their over all wellbeing.

Please unless you are a veterinarian do not tell people what they need to do with their animals.
Dogs can survive on a completely omnivorous diet, though they do better on a strict carnivore diet. Some vets will debate that they are omnivores, some argue they are adaptable carnivores. Cats are strict carnivores yes, but they do process some plants in their diet to aid in digestion at times.

You don't need to tell people to change their pets diet, telling them yours worked is one thing but you neglected to inform them that in the event they do change to the raw meat diet they need to wean them onto it so they do not cause stress to the animal and digestive problems from the immediate change.

Though I do agree with your raw meat advice, the raw meat diet is the best for cats and dogs but not everyone can afford that diet.

Might also want to boost grain-free diets since those are the biggest culprit in causing health problems in kitties.

Just because on is not a veterinarian does not mean that they are not knowledgeable on certain subjects pertaining to their own animals. (There is a reason i do as much research on an animal as i can before getting one. And the reason i do just as much if not more research on conditions that can affect them.) SOME vets can and will take advantage of some pet owner's ignorance. I'm just warning them to be careful about that.

As i have researched and have seen recommend from vets online and from sources that seem sound to me at least, cats and dogs are carnivores and can not properly digest many of the plant byproducts in commercial foods. This of course includes grains.

My experience with my cat on switching him over from his original dry food diet was immediate and went perfectly fine. My vet never mentioned anything about possible digestive problems for slowly transitioning my cat over. (And i have never read anything about how switching their diets can cause problems. Can you provide me with a source on that so i may read up on it? =])

I am all for making sure pet owners are being correct and responsible, but sharing tips and information is one of the biggest ways the pet owner community tells one another important things! Just because on is a vet does not mean they are wrong, for example - a breeder of a certain breed of dog is likely to know more about issues specific to their breed than any run of the mill veterinarian - and i'd call my breeder before my vet.


Am i a breeder or a vet? No. But i do know quite a bit about uterine crystals forming in cats urethras because i had to go through that. I was about 24 hours from losing my own kitty as well, and considering the results of the home made diet vs his prescription diet, i would confidently say that if my cat had never been on dry food in the first place, his life never would have been in danger as it was because of the dry food.



I think the best advice to give from you and i both to anyone out there - rather than telling one or the other not to share information, would be to let everyone know to do their research, and not just take everything at face value. =]

It's common knowledge that you gradually change the diet.

And while most vets will lie to you, I went to a cat specialist because they were open with me about how the "veternarian recommended foods" were crap and the WORST for your cats because they would caust UTI's.

I speak from experience with a cat with Urinary tract blockage also as well as working with cats in a veterinarian's office with felines.
If you want to help someone...don't make strict generalizations about how the owner should do something. It's easier to say
"hey you should research this..and see if it will work for you." That way, if a cat dies from dehydration or gets some massive intestinal irritation from the sudden change of food, you won't have them harassing you for giving them poor advice and blaming the death/illness of their beloved cat on your head.

I did mention that I agree with you, the raw diet is the best. But still...one needs to remember not to tell people that they should do something and make a switch without adding that it needs to be gradual because not ALL cats are like yours.

Ollie is switching to an all wet-food diet now :) and we are feeding him CD brand! He's getting better now <33

I had to get it when my ferret needed life-saving procedures a year or so ago, and it lets you do a payment plan (if the procedure is over $200, you get the first 6 months interest free on their payment plan!) It really helped me, and I hope this can be an option for you!

Some vets can help you out by doing payment plans or doing volunteer work. Ask them if they can do this for you. The urinary tract blockage is common in male cats and has much to do with their diet - leading to crystals. It's entirely fixable and you'll have your cat patched up and back to normal in no time.
