Fear of not being believed, not wanting to get their attacker - who is often known to them - into trouble and a sense that they could or should have avoided the assault mean only a fraction of rape cases are being reported. Of those reported, 50-66% are dropped by police, and of the remaining cases that go on to be considered by the Crown Prosecution Service, 33-50% are discontinued.
Between 70-90% rapes thought to go unreported. And 94% of reported cases don't end in a conviction.

So seeing the many disgusting rape jokes and comments to the effect of "well she could be lying!" and the above statistics, is it any wonder victims have trouble going to the police with this? When people blame you for being a victim, especially given the accused's popularity and blind fans, it can really discourage one from stepping forward and going to the cops. Considering that the justice system is just as likely to shame and humiliate you as actually provide you with justice, it's no wonder so many related crimes go unreported.
When there are multiple victims whose stories match, chat logs with him being an unspeakably creepy, pressuring douche, and his vomit-worthy rape jokes (and support thereof) both here and on Twitter, the very least we can hope for is that he be asked to step down from a position of power, even if it's just a PR move. But the complete lack of empathy and respect for the victims in this situation just means that the staff here is favoring the popular guy over everyone who has concerns about, oh, I dunno, his potential as a seriously fucked up person with access to private information.

Because victims of sexual assault are totally going to feel safe reporting their attackers, given that only 3% of convicted rapists ever see jail time.
Sure, that makes all the sense in the world.

I know this as fact because 2/3 major sexual assaults I've been through I reported, and one of the people got weekends in jail for 1-3 months and the other got off free because the cop said "thanks for all the info, we'll keep this for next time he does something" and I never got justice then. Not sure why people would expect I'd get justice this most recent time.

As someone who never reported his attacker, either, I'm sorry that shit happened to you.

I can't even read comments any more because of all the jokes being made, the excuses to pass it off as drama or "he said she said." I'm just so fucking sick of everyone.

This whole situation is pissing me right the fuck off. It's the perfect embodiment of "If I don't have PROOF then it didn't happen" mentality that leads down the long road of being terrified to speak up, suicidal, finally ending it. All because everyone thinks you're a fucking liar. Why does no one think the party being ACCUSED is the liar? Is that not possible? Is it always the accuser that's the asshole trying to ruin things?

Accusations like that are almost never baseless. I'm so fucking mad.

Plus the fact that she didn't go public with this, it was a private note to dragoneer to ask for advice (which, in my opinion, he royally fucked up). So there's literally NO motivation for lying here, other than the possibility of getting Zaush banned, which she never once asked for or pressured Neer about... and we can see that wasn't successful.
