Anti Drama-Llama Movement - Phase 2: The Gift of Giving
17 years ago
Welcome to the Journal of OtakuMan24 Game Player. Hope you're ready for rants and ravings on video games and other miscellaneous topics.
Folks, a little while ago, I urged people to come to help support friends they know here on FA by sharing kind words and offering to help when things were down in the dumps. (And for those that were just plain emo to give them a kick in the pants).
But times are tough for folks here on FA, and if there's one thing a lot of people need is money. Some folks have cash to spare while others simply do not. Several people just lost their jobs, risk losing their homes, and are just trying to make ends meet to survive.
I've come across quite a few people in this situations, and so I'd like everyone to take a look at these folks here and see if there's any little spare change you can give for a commission piece or to donate out of sheer goodwill.
With this season of giving and caring, don't let your friends go food less or homeless. Anything you can do will be a big help. Here are the folks in need and where they stand in terms of danger:
EXTREME RISK!!! - Has already lost their home and is currently homeless.

I'll be editing and referencing this journal over time to keep up to date with everyone's status. Hopefully the community can all gather around to help everyone here. Let's hope we can make a difference.
Now in addition to getting help from the community, I am also providing resources for Unemployment Benefits and Food Stamps from all 50 States in the USA. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about other countries to really help as far as benefit programs outside the USA go. If there's a strong enough demand, I will do my best to find and post information for outside the USA as well.
In the meanwhile, here are the 50 US states listed alphabetically and the links for various benefit programs.
Alabama
http://www.dhr.state.al.us/page.asp?pageid=159 - Food Stamps
http://www.medicaid.state.al.us/ - Medicaid
http://dir.alabama.gov/uc/ - Unemployment Insurance / Benefits
Florida
https://www2.myflorida.com/fluid/ - Florida's Unemployment Internet Direct Claims
http://www.dcf.state.fl.us/ess/ - ACCESS Florida, which is the hub page for Food Stamps, Temporary Cash Assistance, Medicaid, Workforce Innovation (Job search help), Emergency Food Assistance (provided by America's Second Harvest Feeding America, which is nationwide)
Oregon
http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/ - Dept. of Human Resources
http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/assistanc.....odstamps.shtml - Food Stamps
http://www.employment.oregon.gov/ - Unemployment
This will take a little while as I go through each state, so bear with me as I update bit by bit.
I'm going to search and draw attention to this journal to try and make a hub for everyone to rally to.
Here's for the best!

And like I said, if you want on the list, just say the word.
~Otaku-Man
The best thing you can do is spread the word. That would be tops!
~Otaku-Man
If you want, I can put you in on the list so folks will know that you need help.
~Otaku-Man
Since I can't commission with my own cash, I can at least spread the word any way I can.
Hope it helps.
~Otaku-Man
Still, for those that don't do commissions, or can't, a little donation is always nice this season.
And I also say that if you yourself can't make a donation or commission for whatever reason, spreading the word is also a great way to help this holiday.
Thanks again for the input, and I will be adding more details later today.
~Otaku-Man
So many people needs help!
;w;
I'm actually thinking of giving up....
I'm most likely going to be in jail for the holidays cause i couldnt pay tickets i got for an accident that wasnt my fault... so at least i'd be warm for the holidays... instead of being kicked from my dads cause he dont like me...
Last thing we need is someone doing time because they can't pay a traffic ticket.
Doesn't your insurance help with that?
~Otaku-Man
no car, no health, nothing...
Well you're on the top tier, so let's hope that helps any.
Are you able to do commissions?
That would help.
~Otaku-Man
P.S. Also, I'm currently researching social services by each state, so let's see is anything I pull up can help.
~Otaku-Man
But I found it, and now you're on.
Also, if you do commissions, make sure you have those available too. Will get you more donations, I'm sure.
~Otaku-Man
I'll mark that down.
~Otaku-Man
~Otaku-Man
~Otaku-Man
Do you need to be on this list anywhere?
~Otaku-Man
~Otaku-Man
If you want to chat, feel free to IM me anytime. :)
~Otaku-Man
I can only say I've been making plans to put my belongings in storage (which has a holiday offer right now) and speaking with friends to have a spot to sleep in plus other things in the works (if you wish to speak with me more PM me for my Aim SN)
Some folks just don't know what to do or what they're going to do when times like these hit them, and that's why a little help here and there can go a long way for them.
With any luck, this will work. I'll be adding more resources this evening.
~Otaku-Man
it is NOT the end of your world you must be calm and collective about what you are going to do and check out all your options, talk to friends for advice or ask for some small assistance,
the 1st thing you have to consider is putting your belongings in a storage that offers 1 or 2 months "free" before you start your payments for their services (which few are available)
2nd thing is check out how much funds you have available to make a budget for when the situation happens you have a minimum to handle your needs and cut out the un needed expenses
lastly carry with you a manageable bag a book bag with your basic needs (clean clothes underwear toothbrush/paste perhaps a dispose able razor (for guys) and a small towel and old Blanket and your storage keys plus your I.D in a secure Wallet
everything else you handle a little at a time (like suspending your mail delivery and other personal things) and if you own a cellphone Keep it as a way to contact your family friends etc and most of all keep your head calm n collected because Panicking leads to disaster and giving up! it's all I can say

Thank you!

And don't feel too bad. As long as there's folks out there helping, that's what's important! With a little luck and perseverance, everyone here is going to be okay.

And I believe I shall make a journal about you. :3 Or something like that lol! x3
I myself aren't having too hard of a time with life, but yeah, I lost my job. x3 Just gotta find a new one and I will be fine. :3 I have commissions open to help pay for my trip to FC. x3
And thank you for spreading the word. That means a lot!
~Otaku-Man
Again, no problem. :3 Just wish there was more I could do.

Besides, I always watch writers. They don't get enough love on FA.
~Otaku-Man
Right now my biggest concern is
~Otaku-Man
What also makes me the angriest is how close they are to just giving up on life. I can already tell that their thinking of offing themself to just make lives easier for everyone else. BUT IT WON'T!
This person needs saving now!
~Otaku-Man
Not if I can help it!
I just hope we can get a hold of
~Otaku-Man
~Otaku-Man
So, I mean, there really isn't alot I can do to help. Sorry =/
With the recession, credit companies don't have much of a leg to stand on.
Also, if you want on the list, just say the word.
~Otaku-Man
But no, I don't want on the list. Thank for very much for the offer though.
I can help in another way, though. My mate and I _ARE_ looking for someone to fill space in our apartment. Its a two-bedroom that we grabbed to help keep the parents thinking that we're just "roomates", but now really just need it filled with a 3rd body to help make rent/utilities easier.
SO, if anyone in Kentucky, or around that general area, whom doesn't mind living in a house with two gay guys and two crazy-ass cats.. then please, by all means, send me a note ASAP! We can help one another out! =)
Also, sorry for making this post here. Its just the best place I could know to put it at =P
Well maybe I can make a separate journal for folks seeking roomies.
Something to think about.
~Otaku-Man
It'd be something to help keep our "stray" FA members from having to be strays.
~Otaku-Man
So don't feel bad. Everyone can help in one way or another.
~Otaku-Man
He's an iRL friend of mine that I want to help really bad. ;n;
And yeah, I know what you mean by helping friends out. I started this thread in hopes that it would lead to some major good.
~Otaku-Man
But I do appreciate the compliment and also thank you for the watch. I've watched you back in return.
Now I just hope that after having this around for a while, folks will start seeing results!
~Otaku-Man
thanks you so much for this. you are very kind.
~Otaku-Man
Thank you for doing this for those that need help. *hugs*
D'awww, it's no problem. As someone who's also poor, technically homeless (staying in home that is not mine), unemployed and in pretty much the same boat, I know how hard it can be.
Seeing all the furs on FA talking about their woes and hardships, I figured that since I had no cash of my own to buy commissions or donate, I'd set this up. It was the least I could do.
I'm going to put this back on my front page soon, and whenever I spot someone asking for suggestions on where they can buy commissions or spend some cash, I always point them here. :)
And in return? Nothing! I don't want anything in return for doing this. No free art, favors, or anything like that. I just want to help.
So thanks for the kind words. :) I'll put you in right now.
~Otaku-Man
I'm looking forwards to the day that I can pay(play?) it forwards in turn to those that need help themselves.
Good luck to you. I hope to hear more about how things go.
~Otaku-Man
Also, very cool operation here.
I like the icon system since it gives a visual indication of who needs help, and sometimes that works much better than an URL.
But since the limit does pose a problem for those lower down on the list, you got a good point there that adding the direct links would help too.
Thanks for the tip! I'll switch it up in the current Support Journal.
~Otaku-Man
Florida's resources that I'm fairly aware of, having been in a situation like the above-mentioned users not long ago, and if things keep going this way, will be back into in a month's time:
https://www2.myflorida.com/fluid/ - Florida's Unemployment Internet Direct Claims
http://www.dcf.state.fl.us/ess/ - ACCESS Florida, which is the hub page for Food Stamps, Temporary Cash Assistance, Medicaid, Workforce Innovation (Job search help), Emergency Food Assistance (provided by
America's Second HarvestFeeding America, which is nationwide)Hopefully it offers help to someone.
I'd watch you as a way of saying thanks, but turns out I'm already watching you. I'll have to think of something else.
