Texas Furry Fiesta 2014 - Con Report!
I'm not going to say TFF 2014 was the "best con ever" but I will say it was the the best TFF in the years I've been attending!
After 6 years of watching this con grow and improve every year, I can say that Texas Furry Fiesta can finally play ball (or jump of top of the furpile) with the other big town fur cons now!
The TFF staff really pulled out all the stops for entertainment this year, not only with a bigger hotel but with well-loved GOH's like Blotch and BBF, along with musicians like Fox Amoore, Amadhia (aka Dreamsong on FA), Sub-Level 03, Alexander James Adams, Bucktown Tiger and Rhubarb & Cosmik! The schedule for most of the weekend was packed with plenty of events and panels (over 140 from what I read) that kept me really busy.
As for the highlights - I can think of many, like Amadhia's amazing version of "Skyfall" which was a thousand times better than Adele's, the great concerts and raves, and the epic closing ceremony. I still think TFF still has the BEST closing ceremonies of any con in the fandom - why? Pies. If you think closing ceremonies are too business-like and zzzz boring ya'll need to get to TFF!
The closest I can compare TFF 2014's atmosphere is with FWA before last year's move to the too-big Westin Tower. Almost everyone I talked to was friendly and happy to be there -> THANKS FOR ALL THE HUGS! I think I gave/got more hugs at TFF than any other con I ever attended.
I just wish I was 100% healthy this weekend! I was fighting a bad head cold the week before and I was feeling much better, but still sniffling and lacking energy when I arrived at the hotel. (btw I was not contagious - I would have stayed home if I was running a fever). So I didn't do that much hard partying and drinking. And helped by a lot of prescription medicine and pain killers I limped along most of the weekend. I didn't feel like I got a good night sleep until Sunday morning.
I liked the Intercontinental Hotel, but I had some problems with my room - the heater didn't work when my room was cold and the shower had a clogged or one of those wimpy flowing "water saver" heads that I hate. I wish I could have taken the soft bed home!
The only other bummer was the fursuit dance competition, but not the competition itself which was awesome. I thought I had lucked out and found a good front row seat for pictures & video, but I wound up sitting behind a cameraman who was shooting video for the ballrooms big screen TV's and JustinTV live feed. So there's no complete dance contest video from me this year, but I'm sure BBF's video will have a great compilation of dancers.
As for photos and videos I shot (OMG) about 52 gigs of both. I was trying outmy new Sony Cybershot camera and testing out what worked and what didn't. The low light of the hotel hallways made it tough to get good shots. I should have used my flash more. Still I hope to get my photos and my video of the TFF 2014 fursuit parade online this week..
Thanks to EVERYONE who attended TFF 2014 fur a great time!! As for my next con, I'm not attending FWA because I want to go with my parents who go on vacation in Arizona. I hope to go to Motor City Fur Con in Novi, Michigan (The former home of FCN) if I can get good airfare soon. If I dont.. its going to be a long wait for AC and Megaplex.
Update: My TFF Con pics are now online! http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5540061/

The worst thing is being around fursuiters who could be running a fever after dancing or playing fursuit games. I think I got sick once at Anthrocon in 2008 by just talking to one.
If you post them we will favorite them also.
