I appreciate all the supportive words and kindness you guys have given us. We have spoken to management and the district manager. Right now we are playing the waiting game to see what they say. My husbands stuff is a bit easier since it has receipts and more proof of value. I have a feeling my artwork will be where the fight is. Trying to prove the value of my art. We had a good inventory for Bronycon, invoices, and receipts to show them as well as photos of my booths.
I hope we hear something tomorrow but we were told most likely next week...
It breaks my heart to think people are throwing their trash onto our things right now. I tried to get pictures of the compactor but he didn't like me taking photos, he kept trying to tell me he only threw out papers. They didn't want me or my roommates getting over there, I was at least able to get a good shot of the printer they tossed...they asked us if we wanted to keep the ink...No thanks...the top of the printer was missing and the frame of it had been crushed in... I have no idea how long they were there tossing our things. Our storage unit was FULL and when I got there there was only a couple boxes left. Art...clothes...so many things. I saw shards left from our plastic containers in there. I don't even know why they would throw some of the things away. They told me they assumed they were BROKEN. It still makes me feel sick to think about...there was a perfectly good MONITOR in its box that they threw in there. They said he basically opened boxes and if he saw papers he threw the whole box in...even though there was more in the boxes than just papers? I DUNNO. Its frustrating. I don't understand the logic they used.
Heh when I gave them my list of things that were gone one of them tried to tell me "But we pulled that out of the compactor!" Ya but it was damaged and covered in garbage juice :T I had 3 of those wire shelves I take to cons, all the connecters are gone (I am pretty sure I can replace those) but the racks were bent up...can't use those. Photos from growing up? Can't replace those!
I know I shouldn't have put so much faith into putting valuables in there and I seriously regret it. If you guys have storage units take pictures and inventory everything. I am beyond grateful we decided to keep my wedding dress and other items in the apartment. We almost put them down there.
You guys gave us some good advice and we are certainly going to be doing what we can to make things right. My roommate Neo and I printed out some new things to try and get laminated and ready to go to help make up for some of it. It made me feel a little better to go to Joanns and find the same pink zebra table cloth I take to cons. I know it sounds silly but...I dunno. It helped.
I am still debating on going to FurTheMore. I want to still go I just feel defeated right now.
Super huge thank you to Neo, her boyfriend, Silver, and Chase for helping us get what we could and making inventory on things that were missing. Even though they couldnt get everything out of the trash I appreciate the staff here at our apartment for TRYING. One of the ladies that helps with leasing SOMEHOW saw my high school in there and grabbed it for me...she was actually just as emotional as I was about it all.

I hope for the best to you guys and if you get to FTM, I hope you'll still have a great time there. Best of luck to you and Dragoneer.
All in all, these are just things, Sciggles.
I'm glad you and Dragoneer are safe and well!
Every commissioner will understand your situation, and are happy to help you.
Try not to stress so much, you have our support!
I REMEMBER that. THATS when she should have updated her list. But she didn't. Now she blames someone who doesnt work there anymore.
I'm wondering, though.. Were you paying for this? Do you have a lease? If so, make sure you keep your copy of the information regarding storage. It's very likely that they just illegally evicted your property.
I haven't commented on your situation because I've never had to deal with anything like that, and the mere thought of it makes me crazy... and I admit I wasn't sure what to say. But I am really sorry what happened, and I hope that things will end up alright. All things considered, I think you're holding up really well, and I honestly wish there was something I could do to help. Hopefully you and 'Neer will be able to get things back to normal-ish soon. *hug*
I am really trying to be strong and not flip out more than I need to, I know it wont help anything to have me going exorcist on them...but they are saying a lot of things that are making me bite my tongue...
thank you for your support <3
Since this situation is literally demolishing you and dragoneer the more you think about it, i suggest to find repair from that struggle in your close friends. Wish you a good day... nonono, i wish you a good year and i hope nothing like that or worse would happen again!
Lindbrum~~
BTW, have you considered renter's insurance? If not, it's pretty inexpensive considering the peace of mind it helps bring. (Although I'm not sure if it would apply to your storage unit. State laws can vary.)
"BUT WE PULLED IT OUT OF THE COMPACTOR" God... I do hope you make it to Furthemore... I'd love to see you so I can appropriately fangirl all over the place in appreciation for all the adorable wyrmfluffs that you've made that I own!!
And please DO come to Furthemore. We can drown you in squiggly fluffs!
Honestly, with the majority of the stuff you mentioned, they could've put it up for sale instead. It would've been more logical and gave you more time to save everything. Seriously, what is it with mankind and destroying everything...
The issue is the paperwork wasnt done properly on their end. They thought it was a person that was evicted and had been gone for 3 months (as long as we had it) so they didnt think twice about trashing it.
They didn't see the worth in the things they threw out. He was looking for things he could keep but he didn't really go through all the boxes. If he saw wires or papers he didnt sort to the bottom he just junked it.
As for the paperwork, I'm guessing they're not willing to talk responsibility? Typical, really. No business ever takes the blame unless you cast a few million News stations. Even then they tend to twist it. Sorry I can't help out in anyway, though it'd likely just be mob like things if I did. :P Ah, how I miss my mob days.... :3
I laugh because I'm almost certain you'd back away slowly if you knew I was serious. :P
now, well, if the owner of the local doesn't respect his part of the contract, you can totally sue them for destruction of property.
*hugs* hope it'll get resolved.
I hope you get reimbursed for the items you lost, tho I know that insurance companies don't place much value on Art or collectibles. Especially when it's your own art.....
I am really upset now. I hope you can come to FTM, tho I would understand if you didn't. This is a huge blow, and if it upsets me this much, I can't imagine how you are dealing with it.
Good luck. If you do come to the con, expect a big hug.
