Ranking Systems

Okay, so this showed up just recently: http://superwailingbonus.com/farank/?page=1 , and not surprisingly, it's already causing all sorts of upset. Let's face it, any kind of popularity contest, intentional or otherwise, sucks; someone's gonna come in first and someone's going to come in last, and everyone in the middle is probably going to wonder why they were ranked lower than someone else.
I think it's important to point out that the creator has stated that it's a weighted ranking system, and that considerably more "points" for having someone who is "popular" watch you than someone who is "not popular". That skews the results towards more of a coterie effect than actual empirical numbers; someone with a number of "popular" friends watching them will have a higher rank than someone with an equal or greater number of "non popular" watchers. The results might be described as "If A has 10 friends, and C has only 2 friends, but C's 2 friends are the king and queen, C is more popular than A."

FA+

Besides, my mom tells me I'm popular.
this is going to increase ten-fold, if not more.
For example: you could post art (doesnt have to be good, but thats besides the point) but bomb/spam the index page of FA with your submissions, and then since your art is all over the front page; and due to the fact that not many people go to their page straight-away when they log into FA, they see the front page filled with submissions, or a misleading thumbnail-- so alot of people flock to it.
If artists just did art for the enjoyment of it and to share their ideas with people, they would be a lot happier.
Or maybe I am just wrong and FA is all about being able to say "Hey look I am popular. Ha Ha, you're not."
its just a rank of dog dicks
THE HIGHER UP YOU ARE
THE MORE DOG DICKS YOU DRAW
PROVENFACT
Besides. Just because someone has lots of watchers, doesn't mean they're not a prig, and that's a slightly more important evaluation in my books.
2¢ worth from a cranky old Arts major.
Oh, and taun-taun headgear icon is major win.
& Stay away from that webpage :)

I mean really, when was the last time you opened up another user's watch list.
Yeah, right that makes sooo much sense to rank a bunch of furs.
I'm SERIOUSLY doubting there are that many furs who have internet in the entire world, so the veracity of the ranking is in serious doubt for me.
So... we've all left the fandom 3-5+ times and were not aware we had done it?
That is one seriously powerful site to do mind control on that scale...
According to the "ranking system" there are 270 pages of FA accounts ranked, at 200 names per page, which is ~50 000 names. Of course this doesn't account for any possible duplications (I know I have an ancient account somewhere on there), trolling accounts and defunct accounts, but it's pretty safe to say there are probably *at least* 40 000 valid accounts. It's also safe to say that not every furry-fan who has internet access has an account on FA (I know of several folks who don't, and one quite popular artist who doesn't). The "x number of furries have leftblahblahblah" on the page is, I suspect, generated from a hit-counter and the page creator's acknowledging the drama-generator he was creating.
...what do you MEAN that's not how it works?!
