So paypal sent me an email today that was TL;DR for most.
In a nutshell it was this:
'The person who took your money, closed and deleted their paypal account.'.
Essentially.. they have no way of tracing where it went.. and if they can, it'll take weeks if not months of foraging..
I've already considered myself screwed for the month, but this brought me to a different low...
But I won't stop trying.. :C
... Please help me..
I'm half tempted to say that this is close to being enough for a lawsuit. You entrusted your money to them, and they lost it. And it wasn't even 'just a few bucks' or anything like that. They had a security breach on their end, and they should either have a way of tracking where that money went, or it's their fault that they lost your money. It seems suspicious that a new account was created, all the money drained, and then both your accounts were deleted, and they didn't find one problem with that. :/
Of course PP can trace the account and transaction, they have the info on the closed account and know where the money went! They just don't want to refund Streu her money, and are being dickheads about it.
It's one of many reasons I wish there was a better option than PP, especially for non-US residents.
PayPal is a glorified middle-conman.

i hope you have sended all the paypals mail's to an "internet free lawyer", he could help you with taking all the cost of the "judge", and when the problem is fixed, the company take about 15 % of youre "scored money"
