Budget Fursuit Challenge
Hey fursuit makers and artists alike! A silly challenge has been floating in my head for quite some time that I think could be a fun little thing for all!
This is only for FUN and is not a competition. Once I do mine I will be selling it, all proceeds going to my Relay for Life teams donation, what you do with your head is up to you! What inspired this for me is hearing so many young artists saying how much they want a suit but can't afford the cost to make one. Each time I hear it, it makes me determined to see if it really can be done on a low budget and have it look good.
I did a poll to see about what the average cost a teenager could set aside from a months work(after food, gas, etc.) and the number generally chosen was around $60-ish. So!Ground rules:
~Don't go out purchasing main tools like a hot glue gun, sewing machine, and so on as it seems most households have these (unless you really need a new gun!). Tools you may want to buy would be thread/needles, paint, etc. Pretend that you are away from your workshop (sewing machine and such aside) and have to make a suit head. :D
~No pre-made pieces, remember you are starting from scratch! No resin teeth laying around, no resin noses, this challenge is made for you to think outside of the box like a new suit maker would have to. This doesn't mean you can't purchase the stuff to make the parts, but keep it fair!
~Hang onto those receipts. We won't be asking for you to prove that you did it within the $60 budget, but all that stuff purchased is tax deductible!
~ANY STYLE/SPECIES. It doesn't have to be super cute or super realistic. Go with what you are comfortable with.
~do this in your free time. This challenge is meant to loosen you up and do something really fun, to let those creative juices really flow.
~All original designs! No remaking someones characters, using others designs without permission, or making a copy of an already existing suit! This rule shouldn't be needed but there have been people taking others designs lately and that's not cool.
The main goal of this is to have fun and to stretch your minds as you try and see what all you can make with only a max of $60. Here's some sites to get you started with cheap ideas!
Fur:

Other artists have scrap bags/boxes for sale a lot and can be a real grab bag, never know just what you will get!
Foam can be purchased from many sources like Joann-Fabric, online, or even upholstery shops! Remember, keep it $60 or under!! Can be fur or scaly (fleece) or other things.
The final rule is HAVE FUN!! If anyone joins this, please let me know and I will add your name to the list. When everyone is done, link your pictures here. We can make a collage of the final results to show the world just what everyone can do :)
Artists crazy enough to join!

I was just about to challenge myself with a foam head.
So a good challenge to get it done right this time. <3
only problem in im in Australia and shipping is super expensive
and ive never made a suit before in my life
Sharpe, did you by chance meet the fursuiter who came to MWFF all the way from Columbia?
He said that he built his fursuit, including jumping stilts for a grand total of about $200 USD in a place where average annual income is $800, from recycled materials. Any supplies that he had to buy required shipping into his town. It was an impressive setup, and he had to disassemble it to get it through customs inspections.

Yes! I'm in!
It may take time, since I have a paw commission to do and a complete stilt overhaul for my mtn goat before a bazaar - both due before or by July, I'll give it a shot.
I am gonna love to see the results of this :)
